  • This book provides the history of one of the most renowned emperors of all time. The Great Khan. This was a man born Temujin to a clan leader father who was later poisoned. The family was left unprotected and without power to fend for themselves on the Eurasian Steppe. Genghis later rose to power and founded the Mongol Empire, one of the largest in all of history. Despite his great achievement and ferocious reputation there is much we do not know of him, even what he looked like. Historians state that there is not a single portrait of the man that survives to the present day. All current renditions are done after his death by people who never knew him. His death is recorded and his entombment discussed...but all remains to be found. Summary by afutterer

  • Henry VII, the founder of the Tudor dynasty, less known than his son, Henry VIII, or granddaughter Elizabeth I, is often overlooked. This King toppled the ruling House that had held England's throne for over four hundred years, the Plantagenets, and took a divided, war torn country and made one of the richest in Europe by the time of his death in 1609. Henry VII’s reign was characterized by thrift, prudence, and cool-headed political strategies. The author, James Gairdner (22 March 1828 – 4 November 1912), was a British historian. He specialized in 15th-century and early Tudor history. - Summary by Cavaet

  • The Wars of the Jews (or The History of the Destruction of Jerusalem, or as it usually appears in modern English translations, The Jewish War - original title: Phlauiou Iôsêpou historia Ioudaïkou polemou pros Rhômaious bibliona) is a book written by the 1st century Jewish historian Josephus. It is a description of Jewish history from the capture of Jerusalem by the Seleucid ruler Antiochus IV Epiphanes in 164 BC to the fall and destruction of Jerusalem in the First Jewish-Roman War in AD 70. The book was written about 75, originally in Josephus's "paternal tongue", probably Aramaic, though this version has not survived. It was later translated into Greek, probably under the supervision of Josephus himself. The sources of knowledge that we have of this war are Josephus's account and from the Talmud (gittin 57b) and in midrash Eichah. (Summary by Wikipedia)

  • We’re often taught that history’s written by the winners. But we’d like to argue that, in fact, it’s the losers who end up making history.

In this brand new series from Dan Jones and Elizabeth Day, History’s Greatest Fails aims to answer the simple, but complex, question: Why do losers make history?

From Richard III, to Vincent Van Gough, to the purposefully forgotten female Pharaoh Hatshepsut, this series is going to help you better understand how the idea of failure changes over time, and what lessons failure has for all of us.

Dan and Elizabeth are old friends, fellow history graduates, and fellow authors and podcasters.

Dan Jones is host of This Is History — A Dynasty to Die For, a narrative podcast that charts the bloody and complex drama of England’s Plantagenet dynasty, now up to its 10th season.

Elizabeth is host of How To Fail, a podcast that has brought together hundreds of luminaries and thinkers including Kate Winslet, Yuval Noah Hariri, and Malala Yousafzai, to reflect on failure in the present.

Over six episodes, History’s Greatest Fails will dissect failure of all kinds, from troubled historical rulers, to the failures of remembrance, to the failures that have created the happy accidents that last for generations.

As always, Dan’s royal favourites can chime in anytime on the royal court on Patreon at patreon.com/thisishistory. And for the bonus episodes of this series, Dan and Producer Al are hearing from the favourites directly — join us as they discuss the royal favourites’ special fail mentions.

So, join us for the debut episode of History’s Greatest Fails.

  • Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus is one of Rome's most infamous emperors, remembered for fiddling while the city burned, persecuting Christians, and constructing a lavish palace on confiscated land. But how much of that reputation is fact, and how much is propaganda written by his senatorial enemies? In this show, Lucas and Luna sift through the ancient sources — Tacitus, Suetonius, Cassius Dio — to separate the man from the myth. They explore Nero's early reign under Seneca and Burrus, his ambitious building programs (the Domus Aurea), his artistic pretensions, and the great fire of 64 CE that reshaped Rome. They also examine his relations with the eastern provinces, his diplomatic dealings with Parthia, and the revolt of Boudica in Britain. Was Nero truly a mad tyrant who debased the coinage and murdered his own mother, Agrippina the Younger? Or was he a populist emperor victimized by a hostile elite, whose policies anticipated the more centralized rule of later emperors? The debate continues into modern scholarship, with films, novels, and even operas shaping our image. Join Lucas and Luna as they navigate the propaganda, the poetry, and the politics to uncover the real Nero — a figure who embodied both the brilliance and the brutality of imperial Rome. The story of Nero is a cautionary tale about power, perception, and the fragility of historical truth.#Nero #RomanEmpire #JulioClaudianDynasty #GreatFireOfRome #DomusAurea #AgrippinaTheYounger #Seneca #Parthia #Boudica #EarlyChristians #RomanHistory #Tacitus #Suetonius #AncientRome #EmperorNero #FexingoHistory #History #WorldHistoryKeep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
