Today, I discuss the much-anticipated movie adaptation of Wicked, which has finally arrived after years of development. As a long-time fan of the Broadway show, I am excited about the performances, particularly those of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who truly brought their characters to life.
The movie runs for 2 hours and 45 minutes, and I found myself completely engaged throughout, not once feeling the urge to check out (or run to the restroom). Visually stunning and rich in storytelling, it captures the original work's essence while introducing new elements that enhance the narrative.
Go see it and let me know what you think!

Today, I dive into the topic of holidays and the various traditions that shape our experiences. As we approach Thanksgiving and Christmas, I reflect on how my relationship with these celebrations has evolved over the years, especially in light of personal losses and changes. I share memories of cherished moments spent with my grandmother and the unique traditions we created together, from late-night gift unwrapping to family dinners at Olive Garden. However, I also acknowledge how the absence of loved ones can alter the feeling of these festive times. Ultimately, I encourage everyone to embrace what brings them joy during the holidays, whether that's continuing old traditions or creating new ones, and to remember that it's okay to feel a mix of emotions during this season.
Takeaways:
Holidays can evoke mixed feelings, reminding us of both joy and loss in life. Creating new traditions can help us adapt and find joy in holiday celebrations. The importance of chosen family can be as significant as blood relatives during holidays. Everyone has different attachments to holidays, shaped by personal experiences and memories. Grief can change how we perceive and celebrate holidays, often leading to new customs. Reflecting on past memories helps us appreciate present experiences, especially during festive times.Resources: To listen in on more conversations about pivotal moments that changed lives forever, subscribe to "The Life Shift" on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts. On Day 19, I share the importance of acknowledging and sharing our feelings, especially during difficult times. I open up about my struggles with sleep and the emotional burden of recent grief, illustrating how these feelings can affect daily life.
I highlight that it's okay to not feel great all the time and share the value of having a support system to share these feelings with. I believe verbalizing our struggles can help normalize them, making them feel more manageable. By being honest about my own challenges, I hope to encourage listeners to embrace their emotions and seek connection during tough times.
Takeaways:
It's important to acknowledge when you're not feeling great and share those feelings. Taking time off to care for yourself is essential for mental well-being and balance. The pressure of podcasting can lead to frustrations, but it's crucial to remember the purpose. Normalizing feelings of sadness and struggle helps us connect with others who feel the same way. Acknowledging your emotions and expressing them can alleviate the anxiety and burdens you carry. Every episode may not resonate with everyone, but each story has its audience and purpose.Companies mentioned in this episode:

Day 17 offers a reflection on the personal health challenges I've encountered, highlighting the importance of staying hydrated and the unexpected situations that can arise from routine health checks.
I've had a couple of visits to the emergency room and urgent care, including one memorable incident during a blood draw that resulted in me fainting and needing an ambulance. While those moments were certainly uncomfortable, I’m thankful that I’ve avoided serious injuries as an adult.

After a super fun Taylor Swift concert in Miami, my friend Traci and I found ourselves navigating an unexpected adventure that turned into a pretty scary moment. What started as a fun night out quickly spiraled into a torrential downpour in an unfamiliar neighborhood, leaving us soaked and stranded while trying to secure an Uber ride back.
As we stood there, drenched and apprehensive, the kindness of a stranger ultimately saved us, reminding me of the importance of having a solid plan when attending events.
This experience highlighted life's unpredictability and reinforced the need for caution in unfamiliar places.

Today, I want to share my personal struggle with food and body image, a journey that began when I was around 12 years old. I also want to highlight the often-overlooked issue of how men can face similar challenges with body dysmorphia and unhealthy eating habits. Through this conversation, I hope to normalize these discussions and remind listeners that they are not alone in their experiences.
Here are some key takeaways:
My struggles with food began at the age of 12, which significantly shaped my relationship with eating. Men also experience body image issues and disordered eating, yet this is often ignored in society. My unhealthy relationship with food was rooted in unresolved grief that I experienced during my younger years. It is vital to discuss food and body image openly, as this can help normalize these conversations. Finding a balance between healthy eating and mental well-being continues to be an ongoing challenge for me. Acknowledging our struggles and seeking support when needed is crucial.Resources: To listen in on more conversations about pivotal moments that changed lives forever, subscribe to "The Life Shift" on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts. Self-promotion can feel icky and challenging, especially for independent creators like me.
As I navigate day 10 of my "30 days, 30 episodes" series, I reflect on the struggles of getting my podcast, The Life Shift, heard amidst the overwhelming noise of countless other shows. I share my experience with trying different promotional strategies, including a billboard campaign that ultimately was a bust.

This week, many feel the strain of differing beliefs and values, prompting a reevaluation of relationships, particularly within families. I share some of my own experiences, notably with my mother's side of the family after her passing and the realization that maintaining these ties often felt one-sided. It's essential to recognize that we are not obligated to hold onto relationships that don’t serve our well-being. Ultimately, I encourage you to choose the people who uplift and support you, emphasizing that it's okay to prioritize your own mental and emotional health over societal expectations.
Takeaways:
It's essential to prioritize relationships that bring joy and fulfillment into our lives. Communication is a two-way street; if you're always reaching out, reconsider the relationship. We don't have to maintain ties with family or friends that don't serve us positively. Sometimes, we must make difficult decisions to protect our emotional well-being and happiness. Recognizing that not all relationships deserve equal effort can lead to healthier connections. Life is too short to invest time in relationships that do not nurture our growth.Resources: To listen in on more conversations about pivotal moments that changed lives forever, subscribe to "The Life Shift" on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to podcasts. In this episode, I reflect on the complexities of wanting to change pivotal moments in my life, particularly regarding a significant decision I made in 2017. I think about whether I would go back and alter my choice to return to Orlando from Colorado, considering how that decision has shaped my current relationships and experiences. I also draw parallels to the film "Sliding Doors," which illustrates how a single decision can lead to vastly different life paths. Ultimately, while I acknowledge the temptation to rethink past choices, I emphasize the importance of accepting those decisions as part of my journey that has led me to where I am today.
Takeaways:
1. Reflecting on past choices can be complicated, especially when those choices have shaped who we are today.
2. Life changes often arise from hasty decisions made during moments of emotional turmoil.
3. Understanding the reasons behind our decisions helps us better comprehend our life choices.
4. Every decision, even those made hastily, contributes to the journey we are on today.
