This week in The Labia Lounge I chat with Kiki Maree about the disgust response and how this impacts us in the bedroom.
We discuss getting "the ick", whether this can be overcome and how to navigate feelings of repulsion towards a lover or partner. We cover what sort of things can trigger our disgust response and why, how sensory sensitivity can lead to our disgust response being activated more easily, and what to do when we feel grossed out or feel revulsion around genitals, fluids, smells, etc during intimacy.
And we also chat about how arousal and disgust intersect and the ways kink and BDSM can involve the disgust response as something that can be a turn-on due to it's taboo nature.
Given that segzual arousal can minimise the disgust response but disgust can also dampen arousal depending on context and circumstances, this is a super interesting topic that many of us have different personal experiences with - so it's a fascinating episode, gang!

This week on The Labia Lounge I've got another unique one for you - a little different to my regular episodes - as I set up The Labia Lounge interactive space at a SOP party (Seccs on premises party).
This is a huge episode full of PHAT and juicy chats with some of the lovely and interesting people who I met at this party!

It's a sticky situation and obviously very complex, but we discuss this, along with cults and large group experiences at tantric sexuality retreats, consent culture, and what you as a friend can do when your pal discloses this sort of thing to you.

This follow-up episode is addressing some of the crunchier things that arose on the previous episode. If you haven't already listened to Tub Talks with Toey then this wont really make sense so I'd recommend going back and listening to that one first! This is an unusual format again for The Labia Lounge, where I cut together a series of voice memos that were swapped between my friend Chloe and I, as well as Toey and I about issues of racism and objectification that cropped up in the Tub Talks episode and I wanted to unpack further. I thought it might be valuable to hear how we go about exploring this with each other and trying to understand things from one another's perspectives.
I don't think there's much like this sort of content on the internet so I figured it'd be a fun novelty to get a glimpse into the sort of conversations I often have with friends, and the sort of thought and energy that goes into it when I'm deciding whether to publish an episode or not if something that was said feels problematic.

In this episode of The Labia Lounge I'm introducing a new format as a special treat - Welcome to the first ever installment of TUB TALKS!
Enjoy a very raw and entertaining chat from the bath between myself and a close friend - who will remain anonymous since this one's particularly explicit and personal (absolutely NSFW)!
We discuss my dear pal's first ever experience hiring a professional SW and touch upon topics of race, power dynamics, SW as real work, cannabis use, objectification, breakups and aaaaaall sorts in this one!
It's probably the most edgy episode I've put out over the last 3 years of having this podcast, and if you stick around until the end you'll be rewarded with the most vulnerable share I've ever disclosed on the poddy as well.
For a number of different reasons this episode feels really scary and exposing for me to release but I'm riding out the discomfort and vulnerability hangover and trusting that my darling listeners and loyal innermost community have got my back and can hold space for it all with love.
I do encourage you to reach out once you listen to this one, as I value your feedback on the edgy stuff and will also really appreciate any reassurance or support sent my way after this if you're picking up what I'm putting down!
As a follow on from this episode I'm also releasing a part 2 that entails a whole bunch of unpacking that occurred after the initial Tub Talk recording session. It's between Toey and I, and a friend who I sought some feedback from about the stuff that felt a bit edgy or uncomfortable, and involves a whole bunch of cut together voice memos going back and forth and chewing over the chunky stuff. This follow up dives deeper into some of the topics that cropped up in this episode and is a valuable example of how communication can work when all parties are trying to understand one another's points of view from a healthy place of compassion and curiosity. It's pretty cool, if you ask me! So make sure you check that one out after this too.

This week on The Labia Lounge pod we're dishing up some intersectional insights as I have some thought-provoking conversations with guest and fat, black and queer activist, Milo Hartill, AKA That Fat Diva!
We delve into the unspoken impact of internalized biases, such as fat phobia and racism. We explore the insidious nature of societal conditioning and the influence of media portrayal that contributes to the average mainstream person having some seriously messed up internalised prejudices. We have a dialogue around the importance of becoming aware of, and actively addressing and challenging, these biases in order to be better allies.
And we both share about our personal experiences with privilege, societal perceptions, and the challenges faced due to race, body type, and other factors.
We also address the discomfort of well-intentioned individuals approaching those with less privilege and the emotional labor expected from marginalized groups.
