Have you ever wanted to know more about nutrition but felt overwhelmed by the amount of conflicting information on the internet? You're not alone.
Join NHS surgeon Dr Joshua Wolrich and lawyer-turned-current nutrition PhD Alan Flanagan as they aim to cut through the state of nutritional discourse whilst encouraging collaboration between different healthcare professionals. Whether you're a layperson that wants to understand if celery juice can actually cure your eczema (spoiler; it can't) or a GP who wants to know what the current research is about low-carb diets for diabetes, this podcast is for you. -
Freud famously said that the aim of psychoanalysis was to enable us to work, love and play with minimum conflict. So what gets in the way of us doing that? Philosophy of Psychoanalysis is an educational course presented at a third-year tertiary education level by A/Prof. Doris McIlwain. The course aims to ground you in the basics: the nature of unconscious processes, repression, sexuality, dreams, morality, grief, gender identity, drives and affects and their implications for perception, memory and creative processes, as well as for certain forms of psychopathology. Then, it considers the wider societal relevance of psychoanalysis to issues of the internet, femininity, charisma, cults, spin doctors, hypocrisy and political power. For the more clinically minded, the course covers an array of post-Freudian perspectives, including Jacques Lacan, Melanie Klein, Object Relations theory, Kohut’s self-psychology, Winnicott, and relational psychoanalysis. You should leave the course with a grasp of the kinds of psychoanalysis that are used currently in clinical contexts. Sadly A/Prof. Doris McIlwain, the course creator, died of cancer in 2015. This podcast is created by her family and friends, with hopes that her curiosity, joy and intellectual playfulness will keep inspiring and informing those who listen.

Sex, health and relationships – Yumi Stynes delves into the issues women face but often find hard to talk about.
Episodes are conversational and relatable: we talk to real women about real stuff, from sexuality, mental health, pregnancy, parenting, erotic fantasies and everything in between.
Hear from experts about the wonders of our bodies, who answer the question "Am I normal?". Women share their deeply personal stories to help you feel understood and part of a community.
Whether it be the appearance of our vaginas, the orgasm gap or questions about our hormones, we all need reassurance sometimes and Ladies We Need to Talk has your back.
The messages we're bombarded with as women can be overwhelming and confusing. Get 8-hours of sleep. Kick goals at work. Be sexy. Look after yourself, look after your kids, your parents, your partner, your dog. Date. Try self-pleasure and masturbation. Experiment with sex toys. Be everything but don't burn out. It can be a lot. The podcast supports women, no matter where they're at in life.
Ladies We Need to Talk brings you stories from women experiencing pelvic pain as well experts in treatment in the field. We cover conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, IBS, period pain, persistent pelvic pain and urinary tract infections.
The symptoms experienced by women during perimenopause, the 10–15-year period before menopause are often underplayed or misdiagnosed by doctors, leaving women feeling confused and unheard. The podcast looks at some of the common symptoms connected with perimenopause, including disturbed sleep, night sweats, hot flushes, dry vagina, mood changes, brain fog and depression.
You'll hear advice about how to cope with metal health issues. Women share their tips on sobriety and exploring being sober curious when alcohol starts to have an unhealthy impact.
You'll also hear from psychologists and case studies on how to cope with anxiety. Get practical advice on what to do when life feels overwhelming and worry takes over.
Coercive control, a pattern of manipulative and intimidating behaviours within a relationship is also discussed on the podcast.
Different ways of having romantic and sexual relationships are talked about openly. You'll meet swingers who go to sex parties and polyamorous couples negotiating bringing up children as well as monogamous couples dealing with sharing the mental load.
As caregivers, women often bear the brunt of caring responsibility within the home and the wider family. You'll hear women from the "sandwich generation" who are raising their kids while looking after aging parents.

HOST
I’m Sam Webster Harris, a lifelong learner with ADHD, a raging curiosity, and an obsession with finding answers to hard questions.
After launching several businesses, travelling the world and nearly dying a few times I concluded that science and Psychology are where it’s at.
What actually makes people happy? What’s the best way to treat a brain? How can I get more done?
Studying the answers we find that changing behaviours requires building mindsets, mental models, and a healthy relationship with failure.
I run the show to help listeners enjoy nutritious content that feeds their minds (and I needed a legitimate excuse to cover for my reading addiction).

While Sliced Bread takes a break we serve up... Toast. A study of the spectacular failures of brands which had promised so much to consumers.
In each episode, the presenter and BBC business journalist Sean Farrington examines one big idea. What did it promise? Why did people back it? Why did they get burnt?
Some of the world's most successful businesses have also brought us some of the world's most remarkable failures. So, what led them to be toast? And what can we learn from their stories today?
Sean unpicks all the early optimism, hype and ambition. He learns about the tremendous success of a brand before hearing how it faltered, with help from expert commentators and people who were directly involved. How do they view things now and what, if anything, could have been done differently?
The self-made millionaire and serial entrepreneur, Sam White, is alongside him, analysing the missteps that changed a brand's fortunes and reaching her own, often instructive, conclusions.
From big tech to high street retail and, of course, food, Toast tackles the business ideas that, one way or another, ended up cooked.
Sliced Bread returns for a new batch of investigations on 5 December, 2024. In the new series, Greg Foot will investigate more of the latest so-called wonder products to find out whether they really are the best thing since sliced bread.
In the meantime, Toast is available in the Sliced Bread feed on BBC Sounds. For this brand new series of Toast, episodes will be released weekly on Thursdays wherever you get your podcasts. But if you're in the UK, you can listen to the latest episode, a week earlier than anywhere else, on BBC Sounds first.
Toast is a BBC Audio North production for BBC Radio 4.
