Introduced by the Payment Systems Regulator in response to rising cases of authorised push payment (APP) fraud, starting 7 October, UK payment firms are now obligated to reimburse victims of APP fraud, with compensation capped at £85,000.
And this will be the topic of the latest episode of iGaming Daily, supported by Optimove. Callum Williams and Kieran O’Connor from the Payment Expert sit down to delve deeper into the new regulations and consider what they mean for the payments industry.
The duo discuss the rise of APP fraud, the reaction to the new regulations by UK payments firms given some called for the implementation of the rules to be delayed, and what social media firms are doing to combat fraud on their platforms.
After a short break, the show crosses the Atlantic to Las Vegas. We hear from Jessica Welman, Editor of SBC Americas, and Lucía Mouriño, VP of Latin American Relationships at SBC, who were down on the ground at G2E.
One of the key themes at the conference was sweepstakes and Jess recaps an eventful panel session on the subject that became quite heated between those for and against the vertical.

On Friday, the shareholders of Kindred Group sanctioned the €2.4bn takeover of the Stockholm-listed gambling group by Française des Jeux (FDJ). First announced in January, FDJ’s takeover of Kindred will have a seismic impact on the landscape of European gambling, transforming its competitive makeup across the markets of France, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Belgium.
And this will be the topic of today’s episode of iGaming Daily, supported by Optimove. Martyn Elliott, SBC’s Project Director, is joined by Ted Menmuir, Content Director for SBC, and Conor Porter, Senior Journalist for CasinoBeats, to talk about what the deal means for the Western European gaming market.
On the agenda is the industry's reaction to the deal, whether the acquisition changes FDJ’s profile and status in gambling and how the purchase compares to that of Flutter Entertainment’s acquisition of the Italian firm Snaitech.
Although transformative, the acquisition carries significant frailties as FDJ’s buyout cannot hide Kindred's notable exposure in “stagnating Western European markets” and the trio also considers how FDJ will navigate Kindred’s growth challenges.

On the latest episode of iGaming Daily, supported by Optimove, Charlie Horner, SBC’s Media Manager, was joined by Ted Orme-Claye and Kieran O’Connor from the Payment Expert and Insider Sport team to talk about what they learned from their time at SBC Summit 2024.

One of the highlights of the conference was an appearance by the skateboarding icon Tony Hawk, who was interviewed live on the Meo Super Stage. Rounding off the episode, Kieran and Ted recapped conversations they had with some of the key stakeholders within the UK horse racing industry about what innovations can be brought to the table to help an industry that has become somewhat “stagnant” in recent times.

Earlier this month, X, formerly Twiter, was banned in Brazil after failing to meet a deadline set by a Supreme Court judge to name a new legal representative in the country.
