Terry and Joe return to Twin Peaks with...well..Twin Peaks: The Return (2017).
We're tackling the Showtime limited series in three "Part" (ie: episode) chunks, with discussions on returning vs new (cameo!) characters, Kyle MacLachlan's stunning three role turn, and Terry's belief that Alan Wake 2 may have secretly been based on the show.

Gena, Jenn, and Joe close out another year of White Ladies in Crisis with a look at Quebecois thriller Red Rooms (2023).
The Pascal Plante thriller features an unknowable female protagonist (is she a sadist? A sociopath? A Lisbeth Salander-type vigilante?) and considers society's macabre fascination with true crime. It's cold, clinical and kinda fantastic!
Plus: praise for lead Juliette Gariépy, the long take opening, a stunning Bitcoin conversion, and why we don't need an "ending explained" explanation for the film.

Nichole is talking about the satirical comedy meets body horror film, Sick of Myself, which has a pretty wicked view on disability and victimhood in a social media world. Do disabled folks post our hospital selfies for clout? Are we actually sick, or do we make it up for to the likes and attention? Signe is a complicated character and Nichole is excited to explore how illness becomes her identity.

Terry and Joe continue their way through Cronenberg's filmography with a look at Josh Olson's adaptation of John Wagner and Vince Locke's comic A History of Violence (2005).
We're all in on this one, particularly the performances by Viggo Mortensen and Maria Bello. Plus: rapey stair sex, a stacked supporting cast, gorgeous cinematography and debate if this is Cronenberg's contemporary masterpiece.

For this episode, Nichole is going into M. Night Shyamalan territory with 2015’s The Visit. Seen as a return to form after a string of films not well-received, this film hits a lot of high notes but does something we have come to talk a bit about here on the pod: the intersection of ableism and ageism at the heart of the old people are creepy trope.

With Inland Empire (2006), Terry and Joe reach the end of David Lynch's feature film output!

Gena, Jenn and Joe return to discuss "disabled woman in peril" film, Mute Witness (1995).
The Anthony Waller film is a huge surprise: fast-paced, well-shot, and featuring a great mix of comedy and thrills.
Plus: a hilarious opening sequence, a resourceful mute protagonist, meta aspects, and are snuff films part of our brand?

November is National Family caregivers Month and, for better or worse, The Front Room (2024) has quite a bit to say about caregiving (the title is a reference to a bedroom in the house reserved for an older loved one when they move in for additional care). While the film delves into harmful tropes, it also puts some aspects of caregiving that we don't often talk about in the spotlight and there's merit in discussing them.

Terry and Joe are back with their first Cronenberg title of the season and...it's not great.
Spider (2002) has an intriguing premise and a flawed execution. The scenes in the past are more successful, but Ralph Fiennes' contemporary bits are dull and often unconvincing.
Plus: double your Miranda Richardson, and why the twist doesn't work for us

Terry and Joe return for Season 4 of Sexy & Surreal. It's a new century and David Lynch is trying another ABC series, but when it goes awry, we end up with Mulholland Drive (2001), a film that Terry doesn't entirely connect with.
Plus: abandoned television subplots, the Rita/Gilda comparisons, hot Justin Theroux in shapeless clothes, and high praise for the two leading ladies.
