In this weeks episode we speak with Ailey Jolie, a truly incredible Vancouver based therapist. We discuss her journey in mental health and trauma counselling as she reflects on her experience as Miss Canada, leading her to realize that young women everywhere may be self-sabotaging in behaviours they deem as self-care. We discuss how self-care is not just the frilly candle lit bubble bath, but the difficult decisions you make in your twenties to grow as an individual in your relationships, habits, and self-image.
About Ailey: Ailey is Registered Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors. She holds a Masters of Counselling Psychology and is a student in the Global Mental Health: Trauma and Recovery Certificate Program at Harvard Medical School. She is additionally enrolled in a joint Master of Arts and Doctorate in Depth Psychology with Emphasis in Somatic Studies program at Pacifica Graduate Institute. She holds two Honours Bachelor Degrees in the fields of Women’s Studies, Communication and Psychology from the University of Ottawa (Université d'Ottawa). She is a member with the Academy of Eating Disorders and Eating Disorder Hope an affiliate of the National Eating Disorder Association. Her education and life experience lead to a specialized clinical focus on the integration of trauma to harmonize the mind, body, and soul. Jolie is the author of 'My Body, My Story' and founder of 'Our Bodies, Our Stories'. A non-profit that supports survivors of sexual exploitation and violence in Canada.

Joining us this week is Emerick Derome, a Montreal-based tattoo artist who goes by the pseudonym ‘dirtyl00ks’. Deriving influence from the DIY movement, dirtyl00ks has gained notoriety in Montreal and on social media as a contributor to the more radical “new school” tattoo culture. Today, we will be exploring the role that music plays within his platform.
