Woody92 (@woodyninetytwo) is a true experimentalist who operates at the fringes of the electronic scene. The Dutchman draws on his interest in graphic design to come at sound from a different perspective. His psychoactive mix of leftfield, techno and minimalism is rare and deep. He has built an international but close-knit circle of creative friends and collaborators who all work on fresh future music for his Omen Wapta label which he calls "a transitory playground for the imagination."
In this week's sublime and subliminal mix, you'll hear plenty of upcoming Omen Wapta releases and collaborations Woody92 has worked on with different artists. He says he has researched other parts of his musical self in this mix and tried to translate uptempo rhythms "that reflect a continuous movement into temporal realms - ancient fundamentals smudged and sculpted into a deconstructed landscape full of ancestral constructions.” It's a truly mind-expanding listen that opens up all new pathways. -

Mia Koden (@miakoden) first emerged as half of Sicaria Sound but since breaking out alone has established her own musical identity. It draws on her South Sudanese heritage and music from across the African continent and beyond, not least her current surroundings in South London and the city's rich sound system culture. Often operating around the 140BPM mark, she dropped two head-turning tracks ‘Hot Take' and 'I Did’ early last year then debuted on Ilian Tape with a dark and irresistible EP that traverses multiple bass-heavy genres.
Mia does the same with her mix for us this week with, in her words, "bass, percussive, 2step, 140BPM, dubstep, dub, dub techno and breaks" all coming thick and fast at up to 150 beats per minute. It's a breathless 90-minute selection of global body music packed with lively percussion, big on low ends and not afraid to get rhythmically inventive while also dropping in the odd playful vocal from the worlds of grime and r&b. Both technically sound and tastefully assembled, it's a thrilling statement from the vital Koden. -
Los Angeles artist 1morning is one of the funkiest young producers in modern techno. His all-vinyl DJ sets and pumping productions on labels likes Character and Fixed Rhythms stand out. Enjoy!

Vardae is a project with the ambition of breaking away from the genre barrier, to explore new sounds territory around the love of psychedelic music. His productions and performances result in a percussive and hypnotic sound, a combination of tribal rhythms, repetitive leads and atmospheric textures which navigates from dub to tribe, passing through techno and drum’n’bass. Vardae defends a universe where immersion and experience prevail over codes with the idea of offering a journey to each of its appearances.

Refracted’s music feels as fundamentally human as it sounds otherworldly. It is techno more as an idea and conduit, than as an easily- labeled sound. It is dance music where layered rhythms act almost on a neural, sub epidermal level, while moving and evolving soundscapes acquire a tactile, understated physicality. Paramount examples of this can be found on releases on Refracted’s own Mind Express label, and on celebrated labels like PoleGroup, Semantica and Canadian ambient/deep-techno imprint Silent Season.

Expert pusher of intrusively mental wares and kaleidoscopic audio scenarios, Refracted has been laying the foundation to a truly solid body of work, punctuated with releases for Bitta, Polegroup and his own imprint, Mind Express. From serene, stripped-down ambiences to churning material from the deep, his blends conjure up the best of textural immersion and rhythmic out-thereness, constantly expanding the scope with every bar. Enter a world of sunken minimalism, that won’t fail to evoke Basic Channel and Moritz von Oswald’s seminal dub techno idioms, but complete with its own hypnotic appeal and highly addictive grammar.

Beste Hira is an adventurous, strong-willed and motivated DJ and Producer living in
Amsterdam, originally from Istanbul. Her character traits, combined with her creativity and
discipline, define her as a unique talent. Music has been a huge priority her whole life: she
focused her entire high school and university path on it, most specifically with the cello and
piano as her main instruments. She graduated from Ondokuz Mayıs University with a degree in
Music Education / Conservatory. During the early days of her career, she started producing and
DJing in Istanbul before she decided to move to Amsterdam in 2019 to pursue her vocation as
a techno talent.
Within electronic music, Beste Hira identifies with the hypnotic, fast paced and dark side of
techno. Her extensive musical training can be heard throughout her music production and DJ
sets, where she meticulously experiments with sounds to produce her signature, and, most
importantly, having an incredibly accurate intuition allows her to play out of her comfort zone
and surprise some of the most challenging crowds.
Beste Hira enjoys creating a full sensory experience in her performances, which results in
captivating journeys from beginning to end. Her knowledge and experience as an artist have
allowed her to grow in Amsterdam's eclectic underground scene, supported by key
Amsterdam-based crews such as Awakenings, Vault Sessions, DeSchool, Amsterdam Open Air,
909 and many more. Beste's presence in Europe is growing rapidly, especially after becoming a
regular at the mighty Berghain and other top notch clubs in capitals like Vienna, Madrid and
Paris.
Creating podcasts for communities based in Miami, Mexico, the UK, Europe and Turkey has
allowed Beste's voice to reach global audiences and has continually shaped her growth as an
artist. Cos, the first EP she released on her own, allowed her to break through the scene and
opened doors for her debut at the renowned underground Schimmer Records. She's got a lot
more coming up, including projects that integrate her classical background.

Cutting-edge techno with a vision, breaksy meanders and dreamy electro blends, that’s what’s on the menu of our next podcast installment as Canada-born, UK-based jockey and producer B.Traits takes over the waves for two hours of genuinely versatile, genre-unbound sonic exploration. Championing a lithe mix of hi-NRG house and next-level techno expression that sends us straight back to her mighty BBC1 days, the In.Toto boss heaves us headlong into an effervescing hodgepodge of multidirectional, where rabid snare onslaughts and high-impact programming intertwine to shape a mind-expanding floor narrative. Generous and inch-perfectly engineered, here comes B.Traits with a proper panoramic view into her ever sharp, shape-shifting musical headspace.

This is Draw The Line Radio Show with Jacki-E, presenting the best music from female producers and DJs.
Helping me Draw the Line this week it’s Zvrra, who’s from Chicago. Her Flow State techno EP was highly praised by the likes of Luke Slater, Inigo Kennedy, Dustin Zahn and Ben Sims. At the end of 2021, Shifted released her debut LP Bizzaroland on his Avian label. Her music also features on HBO Max’s ‘South Side’ series as well as on a HBO TV commercial. Zvrra’s shrewd selections when DJ-ing have led to guest slots on Rinse FM and Dekmantel’s popular podcast series. This is the second time she’s been on the show.

From breaking through in the early 90s right when things were still done wild, helming the legendary Lost club nights from 1992 onward, onto becoming a pioneering figure of the UK's underground, it's safe to say Steve Bicknell ticks all the boxes of a self-made myth in the scene. Tirelessly pushing the boundaries of techno as we know it, the British don has been carving out his name in gold letters amongst the pantheon of DJs capable to evolve and transcend both themselves and their audience through the cathartic power of music. Always a step ahead, Bicknell treats us to two hours of resolutely immersive and achingly powerful soul-search, seamlessly criss-crossing our brains with his top-of-the-range anti-bullshit techno medicine. Posology? Repeat listens until complete recovery.

@zvrra is an avant-garde artist by anyone's standards. Her background as a video game developer has a clear influence on the music she makes. That can be anything from industrial to techno, witch house to hip hop, but most often her sounds exist in the intricate spaces in between all that. Her perfectly entitled November album Bizarroland on Avian was a fine example of that, and one united by an eerie darkness that kept you looking over your shoulder.
But this week's mix is full steam ahead through a shadowy world of grit and grime. It's a one-hour techno excursion that explores myriad different rhythms from flat-footed to floating, broken to brutal. It is unrelenting from start to finish, building the tension through a mix of texture and tempo, pulling back then going again just when it matters. It speaks of DJ with a unique sense of control and mastery of darkness.
To learn about what inspired the mix, how it was put together, the influence of video games on Zvrra's music and about her recent EP, head over to our website to read a quick interview with the artist herself: https://dekmantel.com/editorial/dekmantel-podcast-363-zvrra - Visa fler
