How many words do you need to know to understand a language? Many students have asked me this and I'm sure it's also a question you have asked yourself at times. This episode is an answer to that question. I found an article by the BBC that I think is very interesting and that answers this question pretty well, so I thought I would share. It turns out that (resulta que) if we know the 800 most frequently used word families (listen to the episode to find out what a family is), we can und...

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I recently adopted a kitten (gatito). A friend of a friend found these kittens and their mother, abandoned in a town near Soria, here in Spain. The mother wasn't able to take care of them so they were looking for homes for the kittens. We had been thinking about getting a cat for a while, and we decided this moment was as good as any. In order to be prepared to take on this responsibility, I did a lot of research and in this episode, I share what I...

Today's episode is a conversation with my friend and fellow English teacher Pierre. I met Pierre a few years ago through another friend, and we got along (nos llevamos bien) right away. We've had drinks, we've played basketball and so it was only right to have him on the show. We talked about his experience as a teacher, why he moved to Spain, levels in English and more! Plus, we asked him some listener questions to get to know him a little bit better.Put on your headphones and listen to epis...

This episode of English with Dane is my answer to one of the questions people ask me the most: "What is my English level?" I talk about how I perceive levels, how they are not always a good indicator of skill, and more. This episode is more of a philosophical approach to the question and less of a practical guide. It's something I've been thinking about a lot recently and thought it would be a good time to talk about it. I hope you enjoy the episode! Thanks for listening,DaneInstagram @englis...
