Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary are on the jury in The Andersonville Trial. Based on the play by Saul Levitt, Quentin and Roger discuss Quentin’s last viewing of the film with Floyd, how director George C. Scott’s own performance in the stage play informed his direction of this testosterone filled powerhouse gang of actors, and the ethics of one’s own morals. Would you have done different if you had the chance? The jury’s still out on that one.
Quentin and Roger continue the conversation over on Patreon with two more titles. First up, the guys hit the slopes in The Ultimate Thrill. What starts off as a romantic rendez-vous ends in a supreme game of live or die! Quentin and Roger have fun making cyphers out of the characters and share with us where this movie shines. And, finishing up the episode, we watched a movie to prove that Quentin wasn't imagining things — and believe me, he wasn’t! It’s Jimmy Wang Yu’s Beach of the War Gods, where a wandering swordsman defeats a squad of Japanese invaders — thus agreeing to protect the town from invasion. Quentin gives us a history lesson on director Jimmy Wang Yu and his importance in the scope of both Hong Kong and Taiwanese cinema before we move on to the discussion of the director’s talent and commitment to cinematic language.

LOOK OUT! It’s only Films To Be Buried With!
Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe with the prolific and well credited filmmaker and actor LEIGH WHANNELL!
A really lovely chat with someone who you will very likely know from films that have come up many times on this very podcast, so you know you're in for some goodness here... A delightfully self deprecating (in the best ways) and entertaining catch up which covers so much, including but not limited to working with James Wan, making films out of pocket and how to handle low budgets, creating a millennial Freddie Krueger, Insidious and Saw and working on such franchises, devilish alchemy, creative uncoupling, healthy fear of disease and the list goes on! And if you came here for an ethereal Sisyphian tone poem, we've got ya covered. OH ALSO - spoiler bits for Invisible Man where he runs through a scene as he wrote it (which is maybe not so suitable for folk of sensitive disposition) - just so you know. Never let death get in the way of a dollar! Enjoy!

Paul & Amy are baking the biggest cake in the world for Godzilla and congratulating him for finally winning an Academy Award after seven decades. The two praise the film for balancing “popcorn movie” energy while locking you into an emotional personal story. Paul marvels at the film only having 35 visual effects artists, and how director Takashi Yamazaki in an Ocean’s 11 style assembled his team, highlighting their specialties. Plus, Amy discovers the Spielberg and Jaws inspiration in the final water sequence.

This week Paul & Amy break down the 2004 zom-rom-com Shaun of the Dead directed by Edgar Wright and starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost just in time for it's 20th anniversary theatrical re-release. They discuss how it pays homage to zombie films that came before it, how it introduced British comedy to a wider audience, and so much more.

Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe with the very funny and super versatile actor and voice talent JOSH GAD!
A wonderful catch up with Josh, a first timer on the podcast who is immediately at home and fits in perfectly from jump. He and Brett get into all of it, including his full on animation musical series Central Park, his early inclusion in The Book Of Mormon (some folk are still on the team 15 years later), process, no time for self reflection, legacy over career, chasing scares, and a truly moving moment pertaining to birds. Enjoy his gradual Cockney accent throughout the episode too! DASS IT DEN BRUV. Have fun!

In this first of three spine-tingling installments, Paul reads aloud the eerie saga of The Colour Out of Space, one of his favorite stories from the master of cosmic horror, H.P. Lovecraft.
Set in the remote, shadowed countryside west of Arkham, the story takes us to the desolate Blasted Heath, where strange things have begun to take root. After a mysterious meteorite crashes on Nahum Gardner's farm, unnatural transformations spread across the land, and the creeping dread of the Heath deepens. With Paul's fantastic performance bringing the chilling atmosphere to life, this episode is one you won’t want to miss—tune in as the mystery unravels, revealing horrors that defy explanation and bend the very laws of nature.
Paul Giamatti is a Golden Globe award winning actor and producer. Stephen Asma is a professor and author specializing in the philosophy of science, religion, and art.

LOOK OUT! It’s only Films To Be Buried With!
Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe with the exquisite actor and film maker DAISY RIDLEY!
Daisy is truly fabulous and as you'll hear in the earlier moments here, Brett's already a proper fan (as you shall be in the listening of this ep!). But as always it's lovely to hear more from behind the scenes and screens and get an insight into Daisy as a cinema appreciator. Among other lovely warm natured gems scattered throughout this ace ep, you'll hear more about her film 'Young Woman And The Sea' as well as the awesome 'Magpie' (and of COURSE her Star Wars role!), training for films and how scripts can win over fears (and occasional illness), working with a significant other, horror - yes but ultraviolence - no, and a beautiful podcast arc of texting her Dad that she loves him. That's not an Easter Egg, that's a Xmas stocking right there. ENJOY!

Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe with the host of Turner Classic Movies and all round movie head BEN MANKIEWICZ!
TCM is a channel that some non-US folk might not be familiar with, but for those who are it's an institution. Ben is a long term host at the channel, but has a huge amount of dealings elsewhere in the cinematic universe too. If that hasn't hooked you in, you might be keen to learn he is the grandson of the screenwriter of Citizen Kane who was the subject of the fairly recent movie 'Mank'. So you're in safe hands right here, essentially. Ben has a ton to say about a lot of movies that haven't been explored that much on the podcast, but it's also really interesting to hear about TCM and how it's affected his own life. A really fascinating guest for a truly engaging episode - enjoy!

On the Season 2 premiere of The Video Archives Podcast, Quentin & Roger catch their train -- but only by a Narrow Margin. Once comfortably in their cabin, they'll chat about where Gene Hackman and Anne Archer were in their careers, the gender role dynamics of the characters, and how their initial viewing of this movie influenced the future of film forever. Remember, folks: between the viewer and a film there is only ... a Narrow Margin.
Then, on Patreon, Roger and Quentin continue the conversation with two more tapes pulled from the shelves of Video Archives. Next up is The "Human" Factor. Quentin and Roger chat about the important place this revengeamatic sits in the genre, a brief lesson on director Edward Dmytryk, and discuss the show stopping last ten minutes that need to be seen to be believed. Lastly, the guys head on over to Riverside, where the street violence is so out of control that we've no doubt reached the Killpoint. Featuring actors such as Leo Fong, Richard Roundtree, Cameron Mitchell, and Stack Pierce — you know this movie has Video Archives written all over it!

Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe with the brillant actor, music maker and film maker ALEX WOLFF!
As a quick short-hand for regular listeners of the podcast who want a quick face to a name, Alex played Peter in FTBBW classic Hereditary (the whole episode is practically built on a foundation of spoilers so watch that first if it's on your "to do" list!). However, Alex is known for so much more! You might know him from The Naked Brothers Band in a younger time, or perhaps more recently A Quiet Place: Day One, or the Jumanji updates. It is a genuine pleasure to know that he's a total film nerd and it's a really fun and funny hang with these two - pure joy and as said, frequent Hereditary spoilers (but context clues will help you if you don't know the film or are not a horror fan). Enjoy! You will!
