  • In March 1976, Ted Bundy was convicted of the aggravated kidnapping of a young woman near Salt Lake City, Utah. Bundy had not been accused or convicted of any violent crime except this one. No one knew then how many women Bundy had murdered, and many thought him incapable of doing so.

Dr. Al Carlisle was part of the 90-Day Diagnostic team at the Utah State Prison when Bundy was sent there after the trial. Dr. Carlisle's assignment was specific: Determine to the best of his ability, without being biased by any of the reports previously done, whether Ted Bundy had a violent personality. The judge would use this information in deciding whether Bundy should serve time or be released on probation.

In Violent Mind: The 1976 Psychological Evaluation of Ted Bundy, Dr. Carlisle takes the reader step by step through this previously-unpublished evaluation process, and shows how he concluded that Bundy had the capacity to commit aggravated kidnapping, and perhaps much worse.

Violent Mind contains never-before-seen interviews with Ted Bundy and those who knew him, including a letter Bundy wrote to Dr. Carlisle that has been locked away for more than 40 years. VIOLENT MIND: The 1976 Psychological Assessment of Ted Bundy-Dr. Al Carlisle

  • Oh, Edmund. This guy could have been something great if he had just ignored the part of his psyche that implored him to kill and dismember young women in order to have quality time with them. With an IQ well above average and a penchant for flowery prose, he unfortunately grew up in an environment that nourished violence and hatred for himself and those around him. Buckle up, Edmund is a real nasty character, but he will tell you that himself.

Among the many brutal and gruesome murder cases that have rocked Chennai in its recent history, none comes close to the multiple murder cases by ‘Auto’ Shankar and his group between 1987 and 1988.

Born Gowri Shankar in 1955 at Kangeyanallur village in Vellore district, Shankar settled down at Periyar Nagar. Starting out as a painter, Shankar later started driving autorickshaws, transporting illicit arrack from coastal hamlets areas between Tiruvanmiyur and Mamallapuram to the city. His autos were also used for ‘savaaris’ of young women exploited in the burgeoning flesh trade then.

With the help of his younger brother Mohan, his brother-in-law Eldin and trusted accomplices Shivaji, Jayavelu, Rajaraman, Ravi, Palani and Paramasivam among others, Shankar soon established himself as the uncrowned king of all nefarious activities in Tiruvanmiyur. He ran prostitution dens from a line of huts in Periyar Nagar as well as from a lodge on L.B. Road with the connivance of the police.

In 1992, Shankar's five accomplices were sentenced to six months of Rigorous Imprisonment after having been found guilty by a Magistrate. The accomplices were Shankar's brother, Mohan, Selva (alias Selvaraj) and the jail wardens Kannan, Balan and Rahim Khan. They were found guilty of criminal conspiracy and resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension.

Subsequently, Mohan was also found guilty of the six murders and was given three life sentences. Mohan had escaped from the Chennai Central Prison in August 1990 and was captured in Pune on 25 June 1992.

At 8 years old, he engaged in sex initiated by his two older sisters. At 12, he committed his first crime by raping a 5-year old boy. At 15, he was charged with raping a 9-year old and went to juvy. While there, he admitted he already raped 6 boys. The following year, at 16, that increased into 13 boys. From there, Duncan continued on his path of rape and assault. At 17, he was arrested and charged as an adult for the rape of a 14-year old boy at gunpoint. Daniel Camargo BarbosaKnown as “The Mangrove Monster,” Daniel Camargo Barbosa, was born to a rich family in the small town of Anolaima in the Colombian, Andes. Camargo’s father (who had a similar name to his son) was a local businessman. His mother died when he was two years old and his father remarried for a third time. From a young age, Camargo was already highly intelligent. He did well in school but his father didn’t care.
