After the success of Mortal Kombat, Paul W.S. Anderson wanted to get away from making PG-13 movies, and Event Horizon became his chance to create a darker, grittier and more adult film. Event Horizon has gone on to become a cult classic amongst horror movie fans, but does it really live up to the hype?

In 2004, Ashton Kutcher starred in an extremely dark and mind bending science-fiction thriller called The Butterfly Effect. This film was a major departure in tone from Kutcher's earlier works, and it received a very negative reception from critics. Is this time travel thriller underrated, or an incomprehensible mess?

Much has been said about M. Night Shyamalan; his first film was met with much acclaim from critics and movie goers alike. But as his filmography progressed, his supporters quickly turned against him, making M. Night as one of the most polarizing directors of our generation. 2008's The Happening received an extreme level of hatred from all sides, but is it really that bad?

Movies based on video games have always had a less than stellar track record, and 2002's Resident Evil was Paul W.S. Anderson's attempt to buck the trend. Did he succeed, or is this movie just another bio hazard?
-
Every once in a while, a movie will come along that is completely overshadowed by the controversy that surrounds one of its stars. Such was the case with Paris Hilton and House of Wax. This film is mostly remembered as the movie in which Paris Hilton died, but is there more to this slasher film?

In 2001, Tom Green was at the height of his power when he was granted 14 million dollars and the power to make any movie his heart desired. This was the result. Was this big budget gross out comedy some sort of elaborate post modern joke, or was it just bad? Daddy, would you like some sausage?

The Lads discuss 2021’s Dune (Part One), directed by Denis Villeneuve. In the year 10,191, House Atreides are given the charge of taking over mining the planet Arrakis (also known as Dune) for spice, the most valuable commodity in the universe. But the previous fief holders, House Harkonnen, are not letting it go without a fight. With an all star cast including Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgaard, Zendaya, Javier Bardem and Jason Momoa, and a incredible score by Hans Zimmerman, Dune is a visually stunning masterpiece from one of our favorite directors in recent history.

The Lads delve into one of our all time favorites this week, Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 epic masterpiece, Apocalypse Now. Loosely based on Joseph Conrad's 1899 novella, Heart of Darkness, it follows Captain Willard (Martin Sheen) who is tasked to "terminate with extreme prejudice" Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando), a renegade Special Forces officer who has presumedly gone insane. With a great supporting cast including a very young Laurence Fishburne, Harrison Ford, Dennis Hopper and in arguably his greatest role, a fantastic Robert Duvall, we love pretty much every aspect of this movie. So grab your surfboard and give this episode a listen because you either "surf or fight!"
