  • Your catch-all catch-up for wrestling in 2019

Hello to all the new listeners! Fresh off the exciting WON HOF Draft episode, we wrap up 2019, looking back at some of the best and most memorable matches of the year. Make sure to follow @wwfantasia on twitter for video companions!

In this third episode, Andy is joined by some of his online wrestling pals to look at some of their favorite matches of the year. The 4 of them draft 6 matches each that took place in 2019, but as an added twist, a wrestler can only appear ONCE - AND - they are tasked with drafting while keeping in mind they will be making a mixtape/comp. tape when all is said and done. Everything in-ring is to be kept under 2 hours total. This was a BLAST to record and really grabbed from all the major wrestling regions.

Guest 1 - Dylan Fox (@dylanzerosky) is co-host of the Eastern Lariat podcast on the MLW network as well as the Lucha Talk podcast. He has been a big influence on me over the years, helping many lesser known matches from around the world get the exposure they deserve.

Guest 2 - Gerard Di Trolio is a legit writer and researcher in this crazy world of 2019, but uses his leisure time to become one of the western experts on AJPW and other promotions. He has written many GREAT reviews and articles for Voices of Wrestling this year.

Guest 3 - Ricardo Gallegos (@TheUnderWally) has only recently made his English-language podcast debuts on the VOW network and elsewhere, but is quick becoming a strong voice of lucha libre and japanese wrestling from Mexico City. Ricardo is someone I have loved getting to know in the past year - follow him above or, if you speak spanish @LuchaJobbers

The rules are simple: A snake draft in 6 rounds, the guys draft with a "2-hour mixtape" in mind. If you're looking for 40-minute NJPW epics, look elsewhere! Make sure to follow the podcast on twitter @wwfantasia for video downloads!

This episode was a blast to record, so have fun listening!

  • CAUTION: THIS WAS SUPER FUN

Welcome to World Wrestling Fantasia (@wwfantasia), a new podcast by Andy LaBarre, formerly of Fightning Network Friends - taking wrestling consumption into a whole new (and nerdy) direction.

World Wrestling Fantasia plans to give you episode after episode of niche fantasy drafts, games, mixtape creations, lists, and more - taking the analytics out of wrestling, ramping up the nostalgia and just having fun.

In this second episode, we anticipate the coming Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame inductions for 2019 by looking at all inducted wrestlers from the past 23 years, and through 16 rounds - draft our ultimate super card. The names are big, but the guests are bigger!

Guest 1 - Eric Ritz (@segundacaida) is someone who has severely influenced my taste in wrestling over the past 5 years and has become a bit of a pal recently! You should follow his writing work at https://segundacaida.blogspot.com/ and his great podcast about movies "So It's Come To This" here: (@sicttpod)

Guest 2 - JR Goldberg (@wrestlingbubble) has also had influence on me not only in regards to wrestling (and lucha specifically), but with views over many things as well. Over the years, he has proven to be one of my favorite writers about the sport. He writes RPGs and games at https://jrgoldb.itch.io/ and https://www.patreon.com/cementville and recently was successful in funding Doikayt, a tabletop RPG anthology about Judaism.

Guest 3 - Daniel Makabe (@danielmakabe) is one of the fastest rising independent wrestling stars on the planet, this year especially working not only around the US and Canada but also overseas in Germany, where he had impressive showings in this years' wXw Ambition tournaments. He won this year's SCI Tournament despite nearly ripping off his ear and maybe above all else - he is a HUGE supporter of little podcasts like this one and is a genuine fan. Search out his matches on YouTube, IWTV and wxwnow.

The rules are simple: A snake draft in 16 rounds, the guys must create at LEAST a 6-match card to their own tastes. With the pool they are choosing from - let's just say some obvious GOATs are completely left off.

This episode was a blast to record, so have fun listening!

  • THE VERY FIRST EPISODE

Welcome to World Wrestling Fantasia (@wwfantasia), a new podcast by Andy LaBarre, formerly of Fightning Network Friends - taking wrestling consumption into a whole new (and nerdy) direction.

World Wrestling Fantasia plans to give you episode after episode of niche fantasy drafts, games, mixtape creations, lists, and more - taking the analytics out of wrestling, ramping up the nostalgia and just having fun.

In this first episode, we keep things seasonal as Andy and his good friend Drew (@_burningspirits) "compete" against each other to craft their ideal 10-match Halloween Havoc card from the past.

The rules are simple: A wrestling can only wrestling once per card, a title can only be defended once per card, and everything else is open.

The two have a blast reminiscing about some of their all time favorite WCW PPV's and make some odd draft picks along the way.

As stated multiple times during the episode, Andy is working on editing together video for the two cards that were created here. Please follow World Wrestling Fantasia on Twitter (@wwfantasia) for links to those files.
