Zoe Coombs-Marr is one of Australia’s most adored comedians, but before she was as comedian, she was the world’s worst barista, a bar wench at a 24 hour bar, and an actor. Her time in the pub had her cleaning more vomit than humanly possible, and her time as an actor provided us with a story that had us almost vomiting. Yes, this story was all levels of cringe, and we loved it so much. This was a really fun to record, and we hope you love it! Enjoy this episode of ‘Work Hates’!

Doug Chappel is a pillar of the Melbourne comedy scene, a father of two kids, and a qualified psychologist. Before all of this though, he was best known as the prince of the Western suburbs who wore more gold jewelry than Liza Minnelli and chose to go to the movies rather than turning up for his shift. Doug’s instagram is littered with him travelling on flights in business class, which is much better than him travelling in his boss’ sports car. That never ends well, trust us. We love this kind hearted beast, and you will too. Enjoy this episode of ‘Work Hates’!

Well, well, well, if it isn’t one of the greatest comedians that has ever existed ON OUR PODCAST! Dave O’Neil is famous for his stand-up comedy, radio antics and acting skills, but none of us knew he could dig. Dave shares with us his more labour intensive job, and how he left his mate Jeffery there forever. We hope Jeffery is alive and well, but from the sounds of those working conditions, he almost certainly is not. Dave generously illustrates one of the worst comedy gigs he’s ever done in his 87 years of comedy, and how he refused to let that audience beat him. He’s a living legend, and we loved recording this. Enjoy this episode of ‘Work Hates’!

Australian comedy darling, Josh Earl has dipped his toe into many jobs during his lifetime, from check-out chick, to school librarian, to musical comedian. Whilst all jobs have had moments of humiliation, Josh’s MacGyver instincts including creaming soda and urine provided more questions than answers. His epic comedy bomb involving a mop bucket and a song about homophobia is worth an entire episode alone. Everyone loves Josh Earl, and we know everyone will love what he has to offer the pod. Please enjoy this episode of ‘Work Hates’!

Australian comedy royalty popped in to explain why he gave up a promising career in journalism for a career in comedy. Obviously it worked out perfectly for him, but it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. He details his worst ever heckle, and his least favourite moment closing out a corporate event, which was extremely cringey. We were honoured to have the great man on the pod, so please, enjoy this episode of ‘Work Hates’!

Award winning cabaret star, singer and comedian, Reuben Kaye joined us on the pod to explain where he was before he blew the Australian comedy industry to bits. His original answer was ‘London’, but as we delved a bit deeper, the real answer we wanted was way less cool. Reuben worked in shitty hospitality jobs where we watched a man make salmon patties in a sink he spat in, and then he climbed the ranks of a company that celebrates bandanas. It was a wild ride. Enjoy this episode of Work Hates!

Canadian comedian, John Hastings hasn’t always been a world class standup. He used to work in radio where he wrote the jokes for a volatile trio who made his life a living hell. He does, however, state that the weirdest job he has ever had is standup, and he offers our listeners a deep insight into the industry we know and love/hate. Go on, get stuck in, and enjoy this episode of Work Hates!

Danielle Walker is a hugely successful standup comedian, voiceover and actor, but before showbiz, she worked some less than glamorous jobs. Her worst being the job we all would have killed for as teenagers - Sanity. She was the nation’s champion CD cleaner salesperson, and her psycho boss rewarded her with a flicker of violence. Danielle names and shames her bullies, which is a bloody wonderful warning to maggot bosses out there that their victims might become world famous and out them on the biggest podcast that ever existed. Enjoy this episode of Work Hates!

New Zealand’s very own Chris Parker is an award winning comedian, director, author and silk jacket wearer. Whilst it seems like he can do no wrong, he joined us on the pod to share some previous work experiences where he wasn’t exactly kicking goals. From a shopping centre Santa, to a loaded-wedges thief, Chris has really seen some dark places. We loved this episode of Work Hates, and we know you’ll love it too!

We have gone international! Larry is a Scottish comedy icon, and he joined us to explain that before he was a superstar, he was a pizza delivery man who sold beer to teenagers, was sexually assaulted (for a price) and was relentlessly bullied by his colleagues. Bron learnt a lot in this episode, including how most men think they need to punch each other more as a way of creating boundaries, which she still isn’t sold on. Bretty and Larry decided they would bash heaps of people together, which is not where we thought this episode would go, but then again, this podcasts is always full of surprises. Enjoy this very violent episode of Work Hates (or Larry and Brett with bash you)!

Sashi Perera is an immigration lawyer turned comedian who burst into fame through her hilarious online content. She is currently selling out giant theatres around the world with her stand-up solo, but before this incredible success, she was defending refugees’ rights to stay in the country, all the while being mistaken for a refugee herself. This is a woman who has been underestimated a number of times, and boy oh boy, did she prove them all wrong! Enjoy this episode of Work Hates!

Nick Cody is a famous radio and television presenter, an internationally recognised comedian, a father of two boys and a failed office temp. We thought Nick was born successful considering how impressive his accolades are at such a young age, but it was beautiful for us to learn that once he got so munted at work, his dad had to pick him up leading to him spewing out of the car window and his mum had to hose him down. Poetry.
If you like to listen to a great man explain that he is actually a degenerate deep down, this is the one for you! Enjoy this episode of Work Hates!

Bev is one of the most beloved comedians in the country, but even more than that, she is the loosest. She has a stage presence that demands everyone’s attention, and a very disobedient bladder. We loved learning about Bev’s upbringing, her journey into comedy as a single mum, as well as the many jobs she has had, including bullying UFC champion Alexander Volkanovski, and telling her manager to “fu** off”. You won’t find a laugh louder than this, and we dare you not to love this episode of Bev Killick.

Damo is an impressive man - he has been nominated three times for the Most Outstanding Show at MICF, and he is widely known as one of the best comedians in the country. However, Damo hasn’t always been kicking goals. He was the second (or was it third?) best break dancer in his family and he was often mocked for breakdancing on the revolting dance floor in the Toowoomba nightclub. Whether this built his resilience, or chipped away at his psyche is hard to know. From working in a tent shop, to an IT company, Damo’s employment history is rich, and really, really funny. Enjoy this episode of Work Hates!

There aren’t many awards comedian Lizzy Hoo hasn’t been won, or at least been nominated for. And in his episode of Work Hates, we learn there aren’t many jobs she has turned down. From being the spew cleaner at Brisbane’s infamous pub, The Caxton, to mowing huge fields of grass in Japan in the blistering heat. Lizzy is a hard worker, and she does it all with an infectious smile, which makes her even more perfect than we already thought she was. Have a listen to this superstar, and we dare you to try and not love her. Enjoy this episode of Work Hates!

This week on Work Hates, we changed it up a bit, and instead of a lowly comedian (WE CAN SAY THAT, YOU CAN’T), we are joined by a human rights lawyer and gigantic legend, Claire Marshall. Claire is Bron’s high school friend, and she has trumped Bron in every aspect of life, except when it comes to volume of kids.
Before Claire was a high flying boss lady saving the world, she was a nanny to a filthy rich family that had a house filled with dead animals.
If it sounds gross, that’s because it is a bit. But it’s great, because Claire is great.
Enjoy this episode of Work Hates, and if you don’t, Claire will sue you (we made that up, we don’t think she’s that kind of lawyer).

This week on Work Hates, we’re joined by one of Australia’s most promising young comedians Lewis Garnham. The episode starts with Bretty listing Lewis’ accolades, including having a “hot girlfriend”, which was a bit on the nose for Bron. Lewis handled this hiccup the same was he handled being fired by his supermarket job: calmly. He’s had a long list of jobs including a disability support worker a teacher’s aide and a stoner pizza boy. Lewis is a true delight, and we loved loved loved recording this one. Enjoy this episode of Work Hates.

This week we are joined by one of New Zealand’s fasting rising stars, and one of Australia’s favourite comedians, Ray O’Leary. Ray hasn’t always been a comedian, he used to work in corrections, he’s had one of the most pointless jobs in the world, and he even tried his hand as a wizard or philosopher or something like that. Brett had very little in common with Ray, so he shared a story about his pop and a whale. It’s a great episode. Enjoy this week of Work Hates!

Billy Stiles is not only one of the best and underrated comedians in the country, but he may also have been fired more times than Bretty. From a lazy tennis ball boy to a truck driver with a temper, Billy has done it all. We were pumped to have Billy on the Work Hates podcast because we knew his stories would be epic, and he did not disappoint. If you love a powerful exit from a job, then you’re going to love this one. Enjoy this episode of Work Hates!

The American comedian that Australia loves so much we have claimed as our own, Mike Goldstein joins us on Work Hates to confess to some pretty abhorrent behaviour in the workplace. You may know Mike from Channel Nine’s ‘The Hundred’, or his brief stint as a lawyer, but Perth may know him as the reckless bartender that ruined at least one wedding. We love Mike, and we loved recording this, so what are you waiting for? Enjoy this episode of Work Hates!
