  • Happy October and happy new podcast season of The Wonder Podcast!

We are so excited to be back and look forward to hearing from you! Chrissie read CELEBRATION OF DISCIPLINE by Richard J. Foster many years ago and loved it. Then she joined friends and read it again. Then she told Lisa to read it. ☺ Then she suggested we podcast about it so here we are!

This book, y'all. With over two million copies sold, and counting, this book “has helped millions of seekers discover a richer spiritual life infused with joy, peace, and a deeper understanding of God.”

We will be discussing the 3 categories of disciplines over the next few weeks. (Inward, Outward, and Corporate.) Today, we tackle the corporate disciplines – Confession, Guidance, Worship, and Celebration. Every single discipline Foster covers is applicable to us and the overarching goal of His Lordship in our lives.

We hope you’ll grab a copy of the book, start reading and listening, and join us on this journey toward a deeper, more dependent relationship with our great, glorious God.

Thanks for joining us for this episode of The Wonder Podcast!

  • We are giddy for another season of The Wonder Podcast and extra giddy to be diving into a new book of the Bible. Esther! Join us as we walk through this book of twists and turns, (you really do feel like you’re at the theatre) with so many characters the reader can almost lose track!

    Did we mention DRAMA?

You can rest assured the Book of Esther is a full-on drama. Our main character, Queen Esther, shows resolve, commitment, discretion, and strength as she accepts the call of God in her life. Although God is never mentioned, you see His hand all through this book. It’s thrilling to see and recognize God’s plan and presence throughout each chapter, though He’s never mentioned by name.

So grab your Bible, and join us as we journey through the book of Esther, a woman used by God for “such a time as this.” Thanks for joining us for this episode of The Wonder Podcast!

  • We were thrilled to chat with Audrey Elledge and Elizabeth Moore about their new prayerbook, “Liturgies for Hope–60 Prayers for the Highs, the Lows, and Everything in Between.”We want to be their best friends. Let’s get that out there. They are full of JOY AND PURPOSE!

This book started“as an act of defiance against fear.” They were great friends, living in NYC in March 2020 as Covid-19 swept the world. They watched as their friends, colleagues, fellow Believers, and neighbors fought isolation, sickness, and worry. God started to give them words of comfort and peace, and they wrote them down.

When we say the book is honest and holy, we mean it. There is a liturgy for anything and everything. If you’ve felt, hoped, or experienced it, there’s a prayer. And the best part is each liturgy is accompanied by the scripture that led them to write. This book is a marvelous ministry and will spur you on spiritually and meet you where you are.

Order the book on Amazon or Barnes and Noble, or you can hear them read it on Audible! Get your copy today!

  • Maria Bower shares her testimony of faith in this episode. All we can say is buckle up! God does a work in her heart and uses Chrissie in the process. Maria was searching, tired of religion, and wanted a relationship. And God answered her prayers.

From her first prayer for direction and clarity to her everyday prayers, she unrelentingly trusts God. She doesn’t question His plan for her life or her family’s, and she walks confidently because of His love for her. She is a woman of deep faith.

We loved hearing about Maria’s faith journey so much that we ran out of time! But she wanted to ensure our listeners were reminded of two things: Maria reminds us NOT to get discouraged in our daily bible reading. No time to read? Then listen!

God doesn’t want to guilt us into spending time with Him. As a desire of our heart, we want to spend time with Him, and sometimes listening to His word in the car, on a walk, or at home is the best way to “hear” from Him! She also reminds us not to lean on our own understanding. We’ll never see the whole picture as God does, so we’ll never understand everything that happens in this world.

    Rest in Him today!

  • Pray, Wait, Repeat with Megan DobbsAiring2/9/23Megan Dobbs lives in NYC and is the women’s minister at her church in Queens. If you ask her how she got there, she’d probably say, “Lots of prayers. And lots of waiting.”

A former schoolteacher, Megan felt the pull to move to NYC in 2016. The life lessons Megan learned in the waiting (she didn’t move to NYC until the summer of 2022) were worth it. Her prayer life has developed and soared, as has her confidence in the Lord. Growing up in the church, a preacher’s kid, prayer was something she learned about early on, and it was just what church kids did. They prayed.

But her prayer life took a giant leap forward during this 6-year waiting period, as she felt the shift from a check-in-the-box daily prayer to a conversation and friendship with the Lord.

She learned to listen more and talk less.“If I checked in with someone daily, we wouldn’t get very close or deep in our relationship.” That’s when she realized what she had been doing with God. Checking in. She wanted more.

Megan also shares her heart on unanswered prayer and how she continues to pray while living out her calling. This is a very thought-provoking episode full of hard and good truths. I can’t wait for you to listen. Let us know your thoughts.

  • When we sat down with our team to discuss 2023, we knew we wanted to make some changes.

We’re celebrating 5 years of The Wonder Podcast, and change is good, right?

So, to change it up a bit, we decided to do 4 seasons of episodes this year. We knew our first season needed to be foundational, so we landed on PRAYER. This season will cover the mechanics of prayer, if you will, as well as waiting while you pray, fasting, and developing a heart for prayer. We’re excited, and we hope you are, too!

So, today’s episode is about Chrissie and Lisa discussing their personal prayer journeys and thoughts on finding peace through prayer. As a spiritual discipline, they admit prayer is their most challenging practice. What about you?

  • “May we thrive on the Bread of Life or starve on the crumbs of this world.” -- Anonymous

We hope you’ll join along as we study the letters from John to the new Believers in Ephesus (western Turkey) and Asia. These letters were meant to encourage and strengthen the Church in their Christian life. It’s hard for us to comprehend not knowing how to act “Christian” since most of us have grown up in the church and have Bibles in every room of our homes. But the first-century Christians had neither. These letters gave them life.

Written by John, one of the OG disciples, in his latter years, these letters are shorter in length than his first, the gospel according to John. They emphasize the need to obey God’s commands while focusing on the love of God for us and our need to love one another as proof of our love for God.

We love to study God’s word. We hope you’re encouraged and spurred on as we discuss these books of the Bible. May His word continue to shape us, change us and move us toward obedience.

  • What a gift it was for Dr. Connor Bales to join us and share with us the message from his new book, “Counted Worthy.”

Connor received a landscape architecture degree from Texas Tech University, but 10 years into his career, he felt God’s call to full-time ministry. Married with kids, he embarked on a journey that has taken him from the Dallas area to east Texas and back to Dallas, more specifically Prosper, TX as the lead pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church – North Campus.

Connor and his wife, Mary, who you might remember was a guest on our podcast back in May 2020, have five children. Two of their daughters have a rare chromosomal abnormality called Trisomy 16P.

Connor shares that after they received the news that their daughter Hannah had the same diagnosis as her older sister, Libby, he felt God’s presence immediately and heard the words, “I’ve counted you worthy.”

There is tension between “God is good” and “Life is really hard.” Connor is real about this tension and hopes to encourage anyone in the midst of a struggle to get real with God. If he were sitting with you right now, he would say these things, “I’m sorry.” “What you are going through is awful.” “God loves you.”

Romans 8:18 says, “For the sufferings of this present time are not worthy of being compared to the glory to be revealed to us.”

Thank you, Connor, for joining us. You’ll love his message of hope in Jesus Christ.

  • The Wonder Podcast with our friend Carmen Schroeder

    Airing – TWP – 9/15/22

If you’ve listened to either of our podcasts, you’ve heard from our friend Carmen Schroeder. She’s our “Go To” girl! We love her and are so thankful for her time and graciousness to share with us when we have questions!

So, we asked Carmen to share how to navigate the world right now with all the crazy going on.
That’s it. The question was, “How are we supposed to do this, Carmen!? The world is upside down!”

“There is a world out “there,” and there is a world “between our ears.” We are responsible for bringing light to both. The way we bring light to both worlds is through a growing love of the word of God (clarity) and active love for people (unity). This is what it means to walk in Spirit and
    Truth. “ Carmen Schroeder

    Some scripture to consider:
    Genesis 1 (Light)
    Genesis 2:15 (Cultivate/serve & guard)
    Proverbs 29:18 (Vision)
    Romans 8:29 (Purpose)
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (The Last Days – Staying together on mission as one)
    The SHEMA (Deut. 6 & Mark 12:28-31)

Be prepared to have your sock knocked off! She brings truth and shares some quite jaw-dropping things. And we were ENCOURAGED! ENCOURAGED!

Ya’ll, just a heads up – you’re going to need to listen and re-listen to this episode. Don't forget to grab a pen too.

  • Studying God’s word is our first love. We will talk about pretty much anything on this podcast, but sharing what God is teaching us through His word is our favorite.

For the next 4 episodes, we’ll be walking through Colossians. Here’s some fun facts:

*Colossians was most likely Paul’s first epistle from prison.
*Paul didn’t start the church at Colosse nor did he ever visit there.
*Paul wrote this letter to encourage the Believers living there. They were growing in their faith and he wanted to cheer them up and on.

The book of Colossians is meant to encourage us as we grow. Growth can hurt. Did you ever have “growing pains” as a child? Your mom most likely rubbed your legs and gave you some extra TLC before sending you back to bed with this admonishment, “you’ll be fine, go to sleep!” ☺ The church at Colosse was experiencing growing pains.

“It is not until a man finds his faith opposed and attacked that he begins to think out the implications of that faith. It is not until the Church is confronted with some dangerous heresy that she begins to realize the riches and the wonder of orthodoxy.” - William Barclay

  • Studying God’s word is our first love. We will talk about pretty much anything on this podcast, but sharing what God is teaching us through His word is our favorite.

For the several, we’ll be walking through Colossians, Chapters 1-4. Here are some fun facts:

*Colossians was most likely Paul’s first epistle from prison.
*Paul didn’t start the church at Colosse or visit there.
*Paul wrote this letter to encourage the Believers living there. They were growing in their faith, and he wanted to cheer them up.

The book of Colossians is meant to encourage us as we grow. Growth can hurt. Did you ever have “growing pains” as a child? Your mom most likely rubbed your legs and gave you some extra TLC before sending you back to bed with this admonishment, “you’ll be fine; go to sleep!” ☺ The church at Colosse was experiencing growing pains.
