Introducing Ep and Guest, Daniel Ewers
16+ yrs in the business world, Chartered accountant & CFO. Daniel reached the pinnacle of that career at age 29. Life on the surface seemed perfect, but what he didn’t realise was that he was right on the edge of a 4 yr burnout & recovery - cued by a huge panic attack in 2019. During this burnout or what he calls a cocktail of depression & PTSD, Daniel heavily researched the subject areas of epigenetics, accelerated learning, wellness, neuroscience, positive psychology, & human potential before discovering the art & the love of coaching. Development of the Podcast
I started this POD out of my own burnout, compassion fatigue, & vicarious trauma experience. I noticed how great connecting with others who got what you were going through felt. It helped me feel less alone in it. It helped me to feel understood and unbeknownst to them; it helped me learn from the wisdom they had gained to help me recover and grow. This is why I continue to showcase lived experience guests on the POD. As I healed from burnout, I moved back into my work as a psychologist, & that is when I added the scientific knowledge aspect into the POD, having expert guests like myself share their wisdom to help others. I also share my burnout, recovery, growth story from the beginning until now & everything in between. I am incredibly proud of this POD and enjoy every minute of producing it. It is a twice monthly (since May 2024) podcast with an episode released on the first & third Thursday of every month. Episode 25, Part 2 brings you the next chapter of April's work and burnout lived experience. In this second half, she moves into the education field again, but this time early education to help bring a balance to her life now that she is a mother. This time, she faces systematic issues such as role ambiguity/conflict, poor leadership and management, under-resourcing, and lack of training. Episode 25, Part 1 brings you the work and burnout lived experience of April Lauer. A story that spans over 20 years with the ebbs and flows of burnout as she comes up against several systemic issues that clash with her values, interests and needs. From a primary school teacher at the tender age of 21, navigating the world as a young adult, to taking a leap of faith into a new career, leaving teaching behind and experiencing both government and private sector positions that have given her wisdom in what works and doesn't work for her. Listen in to see what these commonly found system factors were that impacted her mental health and how she navigated through it. Her story is so rich that I have split it into two parts. About the Host
My name is Shannon Swales, and I am a perfectly imperfect Clinical Psychologist. I am passionate about supporting others with the mental health knowledge and skills to thrive in this life, to move from chronically stressed, burnt-out states to one of wellness. My Telehealth practice, Burnout Psychology Support, is a therapeutic space for anyone who feels overwhelmed, lost, alone, trapped and absolutely exhausted every single minute of every single day and looking for support to find a way out, a path through the chronic stress brought about by their work or caregiving responsibilities. A state I know all too well after burning out in February 2021, costing me my ability to work and forcing me to move from caring for others to caring for myself. A move that has helped me to the place of wellness I am at today, with the ability to move back to the career I was trained for, caring for others in a more balanced way.

About Episode
Episode 24 brings you another brave soul's story of burnout. Edwina's experience will be of particular benefit to authors, creators, editors, teachers, mothers of teenagers, the neurodiverse, the grievers, women, and those who experience relationship struggles or break-ups during burnout. It is amazing how much wisdom can be shared in a conversation that lasts just under an hour. I love what I do. I get to witness someone's vulnerability and how it paved the way for their growth.
