Welcome to another solo episode!
Graduation season is here—and while timelines and traditions may vary, your accomplishments matter. In this episode I honor ALL graduates—those who walked, those who couldn’t, and those still on the journey.
As a Mexican immigrant, farmworker, and first-gen scholar, I share my own bittersweet path through an underfunded school system. I grew up picking berries in the fields with my abuelita. I wasn’t seen as “college material.” I wasn’t even given the option to apply to UCs because no one advised me properly. I felt invisible in classrooms that should’ve nurtured my brilliance. And still—I made it and I know that you can do because you are doing it!
This episode is also a reality check, our education system is not built for all of us to thrive, but we persist anyway. Whether you’re a summer or fall graduate, whether you’re celebrating loudly or quietly, this space is for you.
Do not forget that you are worthy, brilliant, and more than enough. You belong in higher ed. You matter and your story deserves to be honored.
Thank you for being here and your support! It means the world to me. Muchas gracias de corazon.

In this solo episode, I take you behind the scenes of my acceptance into a prestigious international faculty program in Sweden and Finland—and what it means to finally fulfill a dream I once had to put on hold.
I open up about the very real challenges I faced: navigating a complex application process, securing funding, and almost losing this opportunity—not because I lacked merit, but because of financial barriers. I also reflect on how growing up in a working-class, immigrant community and teaching at a community college shaped both my drive and my vision—even as I wrestled with imposter syndrome.
This episode is a love letter to the dreamers, and the first-gen folks navigating doors that were never built with us in mind. Let this be your reminde that there is no deadline for your dream, yu belong—even when no one holds the door open for you.
Thank you for all your support!

Hola comunidad, and welcome to another solo episode!
Today, we’re kicking off Pride Month by celebrating drag—not just as performance, but as protest, survival, joy, and powerful self-expression. This episode is rooted in love and in truth, and it was inspired by something so beautiful that happened at my college campus: a student-organized drag show to end the semester. The Sociology Club that I advise made it happen. And let me tell you—it was magic.I share reflections from the student-led drag show organized by my Sociology Club and what it taught me about visibility, belonging, and the radical power of joy.

She’s not just spinning tracks—she’s flipping the script. DJ Diana Centeno, aka Baby Dizzle, has been setting California’s dance floors ablaze with her electrifying mixes of cumbia, reggaetón, and rock en Español since 2023. But beyond the flashing lights and pulsating beats is a powerful story of resistance, resilience, and reclaiming space in a male-dominated music industry.
Describing herself as “a spooky girl with final girl energy, making every party feel like the best scene in a cult classic,”Baby Dizzle is more than a vibe—she’s a movement.
In this episode, Diana gets real about what it means to take up space as a Latina DJ facing gatekeeping, misogyny, and outdated norms. She’s not just behind the decks—she’s behind a cultural shift. Her mission? More women, more representation, more power.
Get ready to vibe, reflect, and dance your way through one of the most honest convos on music, identity, and showing up unapologetically.

In this solo episode, I share my insights on the power of community care—a practice that goes beyond individual self-care to create collective systems of support, healing, and resilience.
As we witness ongoing struggles related to inequality, immigration, and mental health, it’s crucial to recognize how communities come together to care for one another in times of crisis. I talk about what community care looks like in different settings, how it nurtures collective power, and why it is especially important in marginalized communities.
Join me for a conversation about the radical and transformative potential of community care in fostering social change, healing, and collective well-being.

La Vida Más Chévere de Childfree Latinas creator and host Paulette Erato joins me for a powerful conversation about choosing your own path—even when it goes against cultural expectations.
As the founder of Latinas In Podcasting and a proud Spanglish podcaster, Paulette is no stranger to challenging the narratives we’ve been fed. In this episode, we talk about what it means to reject motherhood not out of lack, but out of self-knowing. Paulette reminds us that there’s nothing wrong with designing a life outside the traditional blueprint—and that being different doesn’t mean being broken.
We also get into:
✨ Why not wanting kids isn’t selfish—it’s sovereign
✨ How joy and community are radical acts of resistance forLatinas
✨ Dismantling toxic cultural scripts and rewriting them in ourown voice
From sunsets and Belgian ales to deep conversations on liberation, Paulette brings wisdom, wit, and a refreshing perspective you won’t want to miss.

In this solo episode, I reflect on what it means to care for ourselves—mentally, emotionally, and physically—during heavy times. With everything happening globally, nationally, and even in our own homes, it’s no surprise that many of us are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or ungrounded.
I share my own experiences with mental health and how I’m learning to meet myself with grace, compassion, and softness—even when I’m not showing up “perfectly.” I talk about how our relationships with food and our bodies are deeply impacted by stress, grief, systemic oppression, and community struggles—and why now, more than ever, we need to reject shame and lean into nourishment and rest.
This episode is a gentle reminder: you are not alone. You matter. And your needs are valid—even when the world tells you to keep going, keep grinding, and keep shrinking.

Welcome to another solo episode!
In this episode, I dive into the social construction of aging and explore the immense societal pressure women face to age "gracefully." From the wellness and beauty industries promoting anti-aging products to the deeply ingrained belief that women must retain their youthful appearance, I unpack how these messages shape our perceptions of aging. I also tackle the double standard that exists for men, who are often celebrated for growing older, while women are penalized.
I also analyze how diet culture plays a pivotal role in reinforcing these harmful standards, urging women to fixate on their weight, appearance, and age.
Join me in challenging these societal norms. Let’s reframe beauty, worth, and self-acceptance in a world that tells us to do the opposite.
This is an episode about rejecting ageism, breaking free from diet culture, and learning to appreciate the wisdom that comes with growing older.

Today, I have the honor of sharing space with my friend and colega, Bianca Hernandez. Bianca is the Director of Community Engagement at the Monterey County Rape Crisis Center, where she supports survivors of sexual violence, human trafficking, and child abuse through crisis intervention and prevention work.
Bianca holds an M.A. in Sociology from San José State University, where her research focused on high school sex education curricula in California—specifically how sexual consent is taught. She currently teaches Sociology and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at both SJSU and Hartnell College.
Bianca is deeply passionate about higher education, reproductive rights, and comprehensive sex education.
In this episode, we reflect on Sexual Assault Awareness Month and dive into important conversations around sexual trauma, eating disorders, and how to meaningfully support survivors. Bianca brings deep insight and compassion to this dialogue, and I’m so grateful to share this space with her.
This is a powerful episode you don’t want to miss.

In this solo episode, I hold sacred space for our abuelitas—the ones who nurtured us with tender love and the ones who carried their love in silence, often hardened by struggle. Too often, abuelitas are romanticized in media, portrayed as purely loving figures, yet the reality is more complex.
Some provided warmth and comfort, while others, shaped by their own trauma, expressed love through discipline, distance, or even harm.
In this episode, I honor all abuelitas—the ones who cooked for us, prayed for us, and held us close, and the ones who were strict, tough, or even hurtful. Holding multiple truths is essential: they were products of their time, shaped by colonialism, patriarchy, and generational trauma. But we are the bridge between past and future.
In this episode, I explore:
🌿 The tenderness and wisdom many abuelitas passed down
🔥 The hard realities of tough and even abusive grandmothers
🔗 Breaking intergenerational cycles while honoring our roots
🕯 Ways to hold space for grief, love, and healingWe carry our abuelitas lessons, but we do not have to carry their wounds.

Welcome to another solo episode!
In this episode, I’m sharing three milestones that have filled my heart with gratitude and pride: being recognized by the Latino Alumni Network at my alma mater, San Jose State University, having my podcast ranked number three in the top 30 anti-diet podcasts, and leading a workshop at Centro Chicano y Latino at Stanford University.
But this isn’t just about my accomplishments—it’s about creating space for you to celebrate your own. I’m inviting you to show up raw, authentic, and unapologetically YOU.
Let’s embrace the hard, scary stuff that pushes us to grow, and let’s recognize that our wins don’t just belong to us—they’re part of the collective. Together, we rise by lifting each other.
Tune in for inspiration, empowerment, and a reminder that your milestones matter—because you matter.
Muchisimas gracis por tu apoyo! Thank you for your support!
