Web3 has been a social networking buzzword in the last year. People talk about it but not always knowing exactly what it is, just as blockchain was buzzed about in the early years. Every few years, technological innovation in the Internet comes into our sight and then, in some sense, turns our lives upside down. Yet technology cannot be separated from reality, nor the human spirit and imagination construct a future society. So in this episode, we talk about Web3 and the decentralization it represents, the breaking of boundaries, the imagination of a future form of online state; the wonderful connection between Web3 and Sun Yat-sen; and, of course, as creators, the possibilities Web3 offers to creators. 05:59 What is Web 3.0? Will Mastodon replace Twitter as the new oasis of social? After Musk took over Twitter and initiated a series of controversial platform changes, more than 140,000 Twitter users announced that they were moving their social presence to Mastodon. Within a month, the Mastodon platform grew from 300,000 to 2.6 million active users, and its popularity shocked even founder Eugen Rochko. Many advertisers followed the migrating Twitter users, looking for opportunities to promote themselves on Mastodon, only to be disappointed that Mastodon does not support any form of marketing at this time. This seems to echo the original purpose for which Mastodon was created: social networks should not be sold. In 2016, Eugen, a German engineer built the prototype of Mastodon in the framework of W3C, and in the process of continuous crowdfunding, Mastodon managed to stand out from the niche applications and became a popular product in Web3 social products. There have been many user exoduses in Twitter's history, and Mastodon has been one of the most important recipients of these exodus stories. After Mastodon's recent phenomenal growth, Eugen, who was born in 1993, made a bold statement in a Fortune interview that one day, Mastodon will replace Twitter. In this episode, we invite Suji, a long-time patron of Mastodon, and Hana, a new-comer on Mastodon, to take a deeper look at why this decentralized social product could become Twitter's biggest competitor. (This episode is in English) Solid is a web decentralization project led by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, developed collaboratively at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. We had a great conversation with Jackson (@otherJackson), one of the early contributing members of Solid. He used to work with Sir Tim Berners-Lee side by side, reinventing the technology of data storage. Jackson shared the story of his meeting with Tim Berners-Lee and the logic and philosophy behind Solid, including how Solid uses "Pod", an abstract concept of data storage, that gives users ownership of data, rather than allowing tech giants to hoard data and exploit users. Finally, Jackson shared some thoughts on web3 and blockchain.
