The final episode of Voices of IYTE features our very own Tolunay, Elissa, Emirhan, and Miso. The fifth episode of Voices of IYTE features Şükrü Güleç,PhD, a faculty member in the Food Engineering department. He shares his dynamic academic journey, which includes discovering his love for biology as an undergraduate student, working in the U.S. as a lab technician while learning English, pursuing a PhD, and teaching and having his own lab at IYTE. Dr. Güleç also shares many advice you do not want to miss, such as what he looks for when selecting students for his lab, how to be successful as a university student, and the importance of knowing oneself. This episode features Dr. Semir Beyaz, an alumnus of IYTE. He is currently a scientist at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, studying how genes interact with the environment, and its impact on physiology and disease states. Dr. Beyaz shares his life and academic journey – all the way from Samandağ, a small town in the Southeasten part of Turkey, to IYTE, then to the U.S. The episode is packed with Dr. Beyaz’s recounting of many remarkable memories he had at IYTE, as well as inspirational and encouraging advice to younger scientists and aspiring academics. In the second episode of Voices of IYTE, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sinem Bezircilioğlu, who is the director of the School of Foreign Languages at IYTE, joins as a guest.
