  • I'm excited to share my conversation with @Erik_YWR. Erik runs the fantastic Substack YWR.world.

This conversation covers all things inflation. We discuss the main drivers of inflation/deflation, what has happened over the past 20 years in the US, why this time might be different, and how to profit from a higher-for-longer inflationary world.

I really hope you enjoy this as much as I did. If you want to learn more about Erik, check him out on Twitter @Erik_YWR.

  • I'm stoked to share my conversation with Calvin Froedge. Calvin has one of the most unique investing backgrounds I've encountered in four years of the podcast. He didn't graduate high school. Instead, he spent his late teen years working for his dad's machinery business. He explored other business ventures in his early twenties before moving to Panama.

Today, Calvin spends his time researching new investments and running his Shipping Data company, Marhelm.

I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation. Calvin is a breath of fresh air. He brings a common sense approach to real asset investing. There's no fancy math or excel work. Calvin can explain all his investments on the back of a napkin. You will enjoy his insights.

We spend the hour discussing Petrobras $PBR, Ecopetrol $EC, and other ideas on Calvin's radar.

If you enjoyed this podcast, check out Calvin on Twitter @CalvinFroedge.

Also, Value Hive listeners get 20% off Calvin's Shipping Data service Marhelm. Just enter the code "Value" at checkout.

  • I loved this conversation for a few reasons. One, Auke is an incredibly smart person. You'll pick that up quickly. Two, I don't agree with everything Auke believes, which makes for a fascinating conversation.

Auke is a staunch renewable energy advocate. I'm on the fence. I think we can live somewhere in between where fossil fuels play their role, and if it is economical and just as good, renewables should be there too.

We spend almost 90 minutes discussing:

The bull case for renewable energy Mythbusting popular renewable bear cases Copper versus Aluminum Fixing The Electricity Grid

And more. If you're interested in energy, renewables, or electrification metals, you will love this episode.

  • I'm very excited to share my conversation with John Swallow, CEO of Idaho Strategic Resources (IDR).

IDR is a small cap gold producer that does things differently. They generate cash flow. Then use that cash flow to explore their massive land package for gold and rare earth elements (REEs).

John is a true owner operator. Not only is he the CEO, he owns a lot of the company's stock, barely makes more than the average mining geologist on his team, and has a long-term ownership mindset.

Most junior mining companies are promotional gimmicks with a balance sheet and a story. IDR is different. They generate real cash flows and fund their business not on promises, but on results.

DISCLOSURE: I AM A SHAREHOLDER IN IDR AS OF THIS RECORDING. NONE OF THIS IS INVESTMENT ADVICE. DO YOUR OWN WORK. MAYBE YOU COME TO THE SAME CONCLUSIONS AS I DID. MAYBE NOT. WHO CARES.

Regardless of what you think of mining stocks, you will appreciate John's honest approach to his life's calling.

    I hope you enjoy.

I just got my copy in the mail and can't wait to read it.

During the podcast, I spend an hour dissecting Ernest's writing habits/strategies, early background as a journalist, and what led him to writing this book.

From there, we explore the world of critical minerals from a human perspective and get insights that didn't make it into the book, but were just as interesting.

I had Aaron on the podcast two years ago to dive deep into the cannabis space. Since then, the industry has done nothing but incinerate investor capital.

Rebecca has spent her life exploring the world for commodities, specifically uranium.

This week, we get a boots-on-the-ground view of what it's like to explore for uranium. We discuss everything that goes into it, including geophysics, drilling, capital allocation, where to drill, and what red flags Rebecca sees in other junior explorer companies.

Finally, we end the conversation discussing the uranium market, it's supply/demand imbalance, and what higher prices mean for the future of yellow cake.

  • I hope you enjoy this podcast with Peter Pham of Inversion Investor. Peter is one of the most unique investors I've come across.

The way he thinks about the world, markets, trades, and wisdom is unlike anything I've seen before in finance.

This is definitely a different type of conversation. We cover a ton of ground, spanning myriad topics and thousands of years of history.

    I hope you enjoy it.

Finally, a big thanks to the following sponsors for making the podcast a reality.

    Mitimco

This episode is brought to you by MIT Investment Management Company, also known as MITIMCo, the investment office of MIT. Each year, MITIMCo invests in a handful of new emerging managers who it believes can earn exceptional long-term returns in support of MIT's mission. To help the emerging manager community more broadly, they created emergingmanagers.org, a website for emerging manager stockpickers.

For those looking to start a stock-picking fund or just looking to learn about how others have done it, I highly recommend the site. You'll find essays and interviews by successful emerging managers, service providers used by MIT's own managers, essays MITIMCo has written for emerging managers and more!

Alberto gives a deep dive on all things shipping and tankers this week. Think of it as a Crash Course in the sector. You'll learn the good, the bad, and the ugly.

You'll also learn what to look for in a great investment idea, and how to spot red flags along the way.

I learned so much from Alberto, and I know you will too.

  • I'm excited to share this week's podcast with Judd Arnold. This is Judd's third appearance on Value Hive and he never disappoints.

This week we're doing something completely different. We're dissecting one of Judd's past off-market deals that involves the TSA, The US Government, tons of patent litigation, and an 60+ year old inventor who made something obvious that wasn't so obvious.

It's a great Christmas/Holiday break from my current content of investor letters and individual stock ideas. I hope you enjoy it.

Please note that neither Judd Arnold nor myself are legal professionals or attorneys and we DO NOT play ones on the internet. Nothing you listen to is investment or legal advice.

  • Hey guys! I'm thrilled to have Yaron Naymark of 1 Main Capital back on the podcast. Technically this is his third time. But it's his second one-on-one interview.

In this episode, Yaron reflects on the six years he's spent building 1 Main Capital. We discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly of being an emerging, one-man shop manager.

Yaron also dissects lessons learned from wins and losses, as well as one current idea: Dental Corp (DNTL).

Disclosure: Yaron may own a position in DNTL at the time of this podcast. Nothing is investment advice so please do your own due diligence.
