Krista was SO MUCH FUN to sit down and talk to you’ll pick up quickly on the fact that she has experience as a stand-up comedian. Krista reached out to me and pitched herself to be a guest on my podcast and you guys know I LOVE when people do that. Her story was one that was one I thought needed to be shared.
In 2019 Krista was living a dream life from the outside, a corporate babe with a large corporation living in Chicago in a beautiful high-rise apartment on Lake Michigan. A highly independent, single woman.
February 2020 began what we now see as a rock bottom for her: she contracted COVID19 and has since been battling long-haul COVID. This resulted in her having to leave her corporate hob, leave her apartment, move in with her parents, and rediscover who she was, what her passions were, and what on earth happened.
Krista’s story is filled with SOOOOOO much so this is a longer episode than normal but you’ll find that she’s so easy to listen to and has wisdom in each of the words that she speaks. She shares her raw story of what it was like to be living the “dream life” and then to end up back living with her parents. She tells us about how THIS is what began to deepen her relationship with spirituality and dive back into a passion she’s always had: writing.
Krista has been through the ringer to say the least, but through it all she has trusted and has been held and supported by so many. It has given her a chance to reassess and reevaluate EVERYTHING. She has taken this time in her life in stride and step back to see what it is all teaching her and how her own story can help others.
Just a heads up, one of the symptoms of long-haul COVID is brain fog and neurotesting has shown above average atrophy in her brain as a result of this diagnosis. This means that she often will blank and forget what she was saying. She has requested that I leave in all period of silence in which she is collecting her thoughts in an effort to give you a glimpse into the symptoms and seriousness of long-haul covid.
Krista's Self-love/astrology workshop "Love and Accept the Sh*t Outta Yourself", and a custom guided meditation offering, as well . Use the code WOOWOO for 20% off of the self-love/astrology workshop for all listeners (good for the rest of 2024) and a giveaway of a free custom guided meditation to one listener (Make sure to comment on the reel teaser of this episode within a week of this release!)

Many of you who have had children had a birth doula. If you didn’t have a birth doula or haven’t had a child, you probably have a rough idea of what a birth doula is and what they do. But… have you ever heard of a death doula?
I can roughly trace back my first exposure to death doulas around 2011, a sophomore in high school writing a discursive essay on physician assisted death, but that’s about it. It was one of those days where you’re doing nothing important, washing the dishes, folding laundry, that a random memory pops up out of nowhere that I suddenly remembered “Oh! Death doulas! I want to meet one.” I did a quick Instagram search of the term death doula, didn’t find many, but did find Hannah Elder, an LA-based death doula, yoga instructor, and actor.
Today, you’ll be lucky enough to hear from her. She’s delightful, endearing, well-read, wise, multifaceted, and deeply relatable. We get to talk all about how she first became exposed to death doula work, what inspired her to pursue it as a career, and candid discussions on the role death doulas play, mortality, end of life care, and ways to become more comfortable with these discussions.

Today we have on my friend Haley Burli, someone I just find fascinating and enlightening and inspiring. Haley and I found each other through Instagram when she bought oils with me, there was an order mishap, we were back and forth with customer support, and thus solidified as friends after going through so much.
But I’m so blessed because she’s so freaking cool! So Haley lives in the middle of nowhere Canada in the forest among nature. A dream! And she’s a woowoo girl like us! Her practice with grounding with mother nature is beautiful, and I’ll let her explain that to you. We talk all about living in alignment with nature, the time she went on a journey with a shaman and an octopus sacrificed itself for her, spirituality, a d, trigger warning, menstrual blood on our faces. Okay this will be the moment you love or hate me.
Anyway, you’ll enjoy being a fly on the wall for our candid discussion and giggles and I hope for you this feels like as much of a girl party as it was for us.

I've had some unexpected jobs, including working as a recreational therapy aide on the electroconvulsive therapy unit at Shand’s Hospital – quite a wild experience. During this time, I had the privilege of working under a recreational therapist who happened to be a beekeeper. Her passion introduced me to the intricate and beautiful world of bees, sparking my curiosity. Did you know you can get a Ph.D. in bees? Since then, I've been on a quest for more information on bees, beekeeping, and their culture, but finding the right person proved elusive until now.
My pursuit led me to Ariella Daly of Honey Bee Wild, who beautifully integrates beekeeping with spirituality. Our conversation was profoundly healing for me, coinciding with my journey of rewiring my birth story and addressing associated trauma. Ariella shares not only the significance of bees but also delves into the cultural and historical myths, beliefs, bee animism, womb wisdom, and folklore surrounding bees and bee priestesses of Ancient Greece. We explore the healing power bees had on Ariella's life from the beginning of her practice, her studies in bee shamanism (touching upon a recent scandal in the community), and her teachings and offerings.
Ariella emanates wisdom, grounding, self-worth, and a life-giving energy. Listening to her, I have no doubt you'll be drawn to soak in her feminine power and wisdom. She's truly a gem.

You guys Hana makes me scrunch out my whole body in excitement!
As I embarked on my journey to motherhood, heightened awareness of birth control, particularly the pill, became a focal point. Examining it more closely, a trend I believe many women are embracing today, I realized my decade-long use of the pill lacked informed consent. Initially prescribed out of necessity for Accutane in middle school, its continued usage for reasons like acne, schedule planning, and later contraception lacked my advocacy, entrusting my health to doctors who didn't guide me on understanding my body or the pill's effects. It's not inherently bad, but the realization dawned that informed consent was missing.
Hana faced a similar predicament, questioning the birth control pill due to observed side effects in friends. Seeking an alternative to pharmaceuticals for conception or contraception, she discovered the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM), distinct from the rhythm method (which is literally just guessing). FAM, an informed, biologically-based approach with over a 98% effectiveness rate, became her choice. Our conversation delves into FAM, exploring Hana's journey, her conscious conception of two children, and the liberation derived from aligning with her body.
Hana is such a delight you guys. You can tell in her voice how passionate she is and what an expert in this arena she is. She has two online courses available to you with the code Suzy15 at checkout.

You guys know how much I love a woman-owned company and if you’ve been around for a while you know of my vast interest in mushrooms. All kinds. I'm thrilled to introduce you to Alice Mushrooms, a woman-owned company co-founded by Charlotte Cruze, blending the intelligence of functional mushrooms with the delight of chocolate treats. Alice emerged from the desire to offer safe and effective consumables, providing long-term benefits alongside immediate cognitive boosts, a unique proposition not found in the pharmaceutical industry or traditional supplements.
In our conversation with Charlotte, we explore the wide-ranging benefits of functional mushrooms for everyone. Delving into Charlotte's entrepreneurial journey, we uncover the adventures and experiences that uniquely positioned her for this venture, the challenges of starting a company, and the exciting plans for the future.
Recorded in December, this conversation predates the launch of their latest product, "Happy Ending" – a chocolate supporting intimate moments and long-term sexual wellness. Like their other products, it follows a "now and later" approach, offering fast-acting effects with herbal supplements and nootropics, complemented by the enduring benefits of functional mushrooms and adaptogens. To explore their offerings, use code SUZY20 at checkout for an exclusive 20% discount on your first order.
While Alice's products primarily showcase functional mushrooms, they share a passionate belief in the potential of psilocybin mushrooms to aid in healing trauma, managing stress, and bringing joy. Alice donates a portion of profits to The Hope Project and is a founding member of the Microdosing Collective, both non-profits which advocate for access to psychedelic support and research.

Sweet Jeanette is a Tarot reader, Tarot teacher, and astrologer. Though I’m your woowoo bestie, I’m a novice at best when it comes to astrology and you can thank Jeanette for the majority of the astrological information you get from my videos. I HIIIIIIGHLY recommend following her as she gives you daily astrological forecasts so you can prep for your day and tarot readings once weekly.
Jeanette is not new to the pod and was one of my very first guests back before I was even Your Woowoo Bestie, like a year ago! Since really meeting each other then, we have become DELIGHTFUL friends, always giggling and sending voice memos and kicking our little feet, so it’s about time I had her back on to have a more relazed conversation.
Today we talk about misconceptions I have about people from the Midwest (as she is from Chi-Town), her current pregnancy and social experiment with her daughters, and then get into the basics of astrology, the zodiac signs, and what to expect for the upcoming eclipses and the year.
Have fun!

Today I sit down with Syd and I’m so excited for you to listen in on this conversation because Syd became a new friend of mine and I think it’s cool for you to hear how that happens! Syd is the woman behind the Instagram @healingmeandwe, she’s also the creator of resources and coaching programs designed to help YOU break free of toxic family patterns and heal intergenerational trauma. She also has some BEAUTIFUL insight and information regarding healing trauma through your menstrual cycle which is something I’ve never heard of before. You’ll hear a bit more about that at the end of the episode. Syd has an INCREDIBLE story which you will hear about in detail. All you need to know now is that I have no idea how someone, who has all of the odds stacked up against her, was able to break free, choose a different path, and now hold hands with individuals who need a guide to break free as well. She is intelligent, inspiring, adorable, wise, and I know you will be just as inspired be her and get fuzzies in your tummy like I did.In this episode, we do talk about childhood trauma and touch on suicide, suicide attempts, and sexual trauma. If any of these will be a trigger for you, go ahead and skip this episode. Also while editing I eliminated the names of Syd’s brother and daughter to protect their identities so if you hear any weird pauses in sentences, that’s why. Okay sit back, criss cross applesauce, and get ready to soak in this wisdom!

On the pod today I have Lala Sol.She is a mind-body specialist on a mission to support high achieving female leaders; teaching women around the world the art of self-love and manifestation through holistic lifestyle practices. I have been drawn to her for years and her ability to live free of the restrictions society puts on us when it comes to what we “should” be doing. Her spiritual journey had a huge influence on mine as I found her at the beginning of my discovery of spirituality and meditation. She currently lives in Bali but has traveled and lived in so many beautiful places across the world, contributing to her wisdom in spirituality, connection to the divine, and connection to the divine feminine. You will be ENAMORED by the way she holds herself, speaks eloquently about her experiences, and shares tips on how to live more in alignment with our cycles and the cycles of nature. PLEASE follow her on socials and take a look at her website which is TRULY mesmerizing and you’ll see what I’m talking about. This is a conversation you will NOT want to miss and will have so many nuggets of wisdom for you. If you haven’t already, join my woowoo Bestie facebook community where we share our woowoo journeys, wisdom, tips, and practices. Trust me, you’ll want to be in on that within the next few weeks. Today I got to sit down with Jackie Ducci, founder of the Human-Animal Alliance. Jackie's story is inspiring, one of new beginnings and complete 180s. Despite the fact that her career and success in Corporate America seemed to be checking all of the boxes, she found herself unenthused and uninspired. So, she decided to do something about it. Drawing on her passion for the healing relationships humans and animals have and her own relationships with animals growing up, she chose to found a non-profit: The Human-Animal Alliance.

On the podcast today Robby and I reflect on the anniversary of being out of the classroom. We discuss how my teaching career started, the most delightful aspects of it, and when I started to realize that it wasn't a place for me anymore. We discuss our own plans for educating Hawthorne and how on earth I ended up coming around to the idea of being a stay at home mom (which I'm not, but I wouldn't be opposed). At the end, we take a stroll down memory lane and read some hilarious student responses to questions of the day.Betterhelp: https://www.betterhelp.com/rpc/577533e2ff4e29a8-1-07?utm_campaign=referral_reminder&utm_source=email-camp&utm_term=eg_ref_rem_1.tpl.m02
