  • Blagichka (Благичка) is the first zero waste restaurant in Bulgaria, while also employing young people at disadvantage. The place unites in the love for food and the preparation of quality and delicious meals and the belief that young people are the most important wealth, which our society has and should invest in. The team of Blagichka believes that eating is a ritual which brings us happiness and energy, that giving a chance to disadvantaged young people is a great mission, and that every effort not to throw away waste pays off. The core mission behind this initiative is to achieve a healthier, more socially responsible and environmentally friendly lifestyle and to spread awareness about it.  In their daily work they follow the 5 principles of the philosophy ZERO WASTE: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot - compost.

In this episode we present to you the founder of the first Zero Waste Restaurant in Bulgaria - Blazhka Dimitrova. We will talk about her personal journey on sustainability, what inspires her to keep on track, and what we as a younger generation could do to lessen our environmental footprint. For us, it was such a  pleasure to interview an inspiring environmental entrepreneur and learn more about the ideas behind her hard work.

  • When COP26 was originally cancelled in 2020, young people took action. 330 youth delegates, representing over 140 countries,  gathered online to participate in Mock COP during the time when COP26 would have been running.

The conference was planned and led by young people, showing the ambition and dreams of young people worldwide fighting for a fair, equal and green world. The conference culminated with a global declaration to world leaders with 18 ambitious, yet realistic policies covering 6 important themes; climate education, climate justice, climate-resilient livelihoods, physical and mental health, nationally determined contributions and biodiversity.

In this episode, we interview Shreya KC, a climate activist from Nepal and Mock COP Campaigner. Shreya talks to us about her experiences in climate activism, her personal journey towards climate action, and her work as a Mock COP campaigner. She shares the progress that has been made in implementing the Mock COP treaty, and more broadly, how young people can effectively mobilise to fight climate inaction.

  • Welcome to Turning Tides!

This is a podcast produced by and for young people from Asia and Europe.

Climate Change is one of the most defining issues of our time. Everywhere in the world, its effects are being noticed. But we need more than just facts and figures to inspire people to take action: We need personal stories and experiences told by the people, who are fighting on the frontline.

Inspired by the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal no. 13 on climate action, we engage policy makers, activists, and community groups working on climate change issues, to empower you, the listener, to take action.

This podcast is a project under the Asia-Europe Foundation’s 4th Young Leaders Summit, and it is produced in relation to the 13th ASEM Summit in Cambodia in November, 2021.
