In this episode of True Intention, Tina explores the transformative power of saying no and setting boundaries. She delves into the psychology and neuroscience behind why saying no can be difficult, yet essential for personal growth and wellbeing. The conversation provides practical tips for setting boundaries and emphasises the empowering outcomes that come from reclaiming your power and inspiring others to do the same.
Chapters
00:00 The Power of Saying No
03:04 Understanding the Psychology of Boundaries
05:58 Practical Tips for Setting Boundaries
09:06 Empowering Outcomes of Saying No
Takeaways
Saying no can feel uncomfortable, but it's an essential part of personal growth.Setting boundaries strengthens the parts of your brain responsible for self-regulation and decision making. When you set boundaries, what no longer serves you naturally falls away, making space for what truly nourishes you.Your brain releases dopamine when you conform, but this comes at a long-term cost.Every time you set a new boundary, your brain's prefrontal cortex gets stronger.Saying no is an act of self-preservation and boosts mental resilience.Letting go of what keeps you stuck is liberating and empowering.Practicing saying no can help reduce the discomfort associated with it.Not everyone will respond well to your boundaries, and that's okay.Modelling self-care and boundary setting inspires others to respect their own boundaries. Today’s guest is Sinead Crowe of Intuitive Eating Ireland. When I asked for guest recommendations of who you would like to hear from on the podcast, Sinead's name came up numerous times so I am delighted to bring you our conversation today!
We’re diving deep into a subject that touches so many of us — our relationship with food, our bodies, and the often toxic messages around diet and body image that we've been exposed to for years. Sinead, has walked the path from binge eating and self-doubt to embracing intuitive eating as a powerful form of self-care. She’s here to share her personal journey and break down the principles of intuitive eating. Together, we'll explore how diet culture impacts our self-worth and how we can begin to truly nourish ourselves, both physically and emotionally.
Chapters

02:50 The Impact of Diet Culture
05:22 The Journey to Intuitive Eating
08:07 The Role of Family and Society

22:26 The Role of Self-Worth in Eating Habits
25:27 The Importance of Lifelong Learning

Here are a few key insights that really stand out from today:
Intuitive eating is more than just a way of eating — it’s a powerful self-care framework that encourages body trust and connection.
Rejecting the pursuit of weight loss is key to nurturing a healthier, more sustainable relationship with food.
We’ve seen how deeply diet culture can warp our sense of self-worth and create harmful messages about body image — but we also learned that it's never too late to unlearn those messages.
And remember, food is meant to nourish and bring joy, not serve as a source of punishment or control.

Today’s guest is Yoga Teacher and Owner and Creator of Violet Sky Andrea Gonzalez. Violet Sky, a community hub, is a dedication to her daughter Violet who passed away from Cancer in 2021. Andrea refers to Violet Sky as a Community Lovebomb where everybody who comes to the space is free to be authentically themselves.
Andrea fearlessly opens up about how for a long time after the death of her young daughter that she felt that part of her own body was missing, she speaks to us about how sitting into the pain allowed for that void, that empty space to eventually be filled with love. We speak about how authenticity is everything, being vulnerable is beyond powerful and how trusting the flow of your life leads to an unwavering faith that everything being placed around you and everything that is happening in your life is unfolding just the way it’s supposed to. I was in awe of Andrea’s zest for life and her faith and trust in the lessons this life has put in her path, this conversation is raw, open and everything we need to hear right now.

Today’s guest is Fiona Brennan, CEO of The Positive Habit, Clinical Hypnotherapist, Best-Selling Author, and Inspirational Speaker.
Fiona is a two-time best-selling author and appears regularly in the mainstream media where she is an ambassador for positive thinking and wellbeing. Her first book is the Irish Times and Eason’s bestseller, ‘The Positive Habit’. Her most recent book, ‘The Self-Love Habit’ was published in 2021 hitting the best-seller list straight away. Her latest book on sleep is due for publication in April this year and is a truly transformational programme based on cutting-edge research in the areas of sleep science, positive psychology, lifestyle medicine, neuroscience, and mindfulness.
I loved this conversation with Fiona, being in her presence is very special and I know you will feel that too. We talked about learning the importance of self-compassion and forgiveness for personal growth. Recognising the significance of taking responsibility for your life and the empowerment it brings and with the release of Fiona’s next book “Sleep Well” just around the corner we spoke all about sleeping well and living more.
You can connect with Fiona through her website thepositivehabit.com and on Instagram @the_positive_habit
