This week we get a voicemail from Sarah True, while she’s in Germany, and update on all the latest racing from Sid Talks. Then we debate: what’s the most competitive racing right now (70.3, Ironman, or short-course), if races with pros are better, the most talked about photo in tri right now, and what happens when you’re late to the roll-down ceremony.

Yes, there was some big news in the triathlon world yesterday. Sid & Kelly will talk about the doping bust, what the key questions are from here, and how people are responding.
But first: the good stuff in triathlon. A huge (and inspiring, motivating, warm-and-fuzzy) weekend of racing, from Ironman Texas to Peru 70.3 to Challenge Gran Canaria. We want to give them all a hug.

Sid & Kelly sat down for a “quick” episode to talk about training camp, the latest PTO developments and results from this past weekend, and preview the upcoming races this weekend: namely, the American regional champs at Ironman Texas. But then they talked for 50 minutes.
There were some sound issues this week. Kelly’s mic was too hot and Sid’s was too quiet, and this is what happens when everyone’s tired!
How to watch Ironman Texas: Ironman Facebook, Youtube, or Ironman Live
And, because we mistakenly said there was no coverage, how to watch Challenge Gran Canaria: They’re saying they’ll have live coverage on Challenge Family Live’s feed

It’s a quick episode this week. Kelly & Sid talk Oceanside racing, what it means for the rest of the season, the broadcast and things we’d like to see. And how we plan to bond with Lionel over menopause and adopt Jason’s slapping himself strategy.

Sid & Kelly break down their predictions for the kickoff race of the U.S. season: Oceanside 70.3. And they review all the Southern Hemisphere race results from this past weekend: Gwen, Ashleigh, Max, Hayden.
And then Sid talks with triathlon superstar, Meredith Kessler, who just took 4th at her 9th Ironman New Zealand—her 72nd Iron-distance race. What keeps her going? They talk about coming back after baby #2, going for the win in your 40s, and what they've learned over the years.
Note: We also got some of the details of Comrades wrong. The famous massive ultramarathon goes between Durban and Pietermaritzburg in S. Africa.

Before our fun interview with world champion triathlete and producer & writer of the Netflix movie All Quiet on the Western Front, Sid and Kelly first dissect the last two weeks of races. Are we getting old? Can drones be used for broadcast coverage? And other important questions.
Then Sid takes over the mic to talk with Lesley Paterson about the process of becoming an Oscar and BAFTA winning producing, picking award season dresses, and what lessons she’s learned from triathlon.
And, which is more exciting: winning a BAFTA or an XTERRA world championship?

As Sid packs to head to CLASH Miami and then her first race of the year in Chile, we dissect all the races this past weekend: The start of Olympic qualifying season at WTCS Abu Dhabi (and the shoe controversy), farewell tours at Ironman New Zealand, and more drama at Ironman South Africa.
What are the appeal options when something goes wrong? Why couldn’t we watch the long-distance races?

This week’s episode is a quick fun results and preview show. This past weekend saw the kickoff of Super League Arena Games, some up-and-comers, and yes, Lionel. Plus, Gwen Jorgensen’s return to triathlon.
But now the real season is officially underway: WTCS Abu Dhabi this weekend with (many of) the big hitters getting their Paris 2024 campaign underway. And at the Ironman distance, two legends return to New Zealand and the regional champs in South Africa attracts the big names.
More interviews back next week, but enjoy all things tri this week.

This week we’re spending some time diving into the details of the Pro Triathletes Organization. To do that, Laura Siddall (who sits on the PTO Athlete Board) chats with Ruth Astle (who served on the Rankings Committee that recently overhauled the PTO ranking algorithm, and who was recently elected to the Athlete Board). They get into some of what went into that overhaul and the recent changes at the PTO and how the athletes are involved.
First, though, Kelly & Sid talk about this past weekend’s races, discuss the roll-out of the draft detecting technology, and have their own preview of the latest PTO announcement that prize money will be consolidated in the top 50 and field sizes at the PTO races will be smaller. Is it the right move?
Like we said: All things about the PTO.

Kelly & Sid look forward to the race season: Mark your calendar for these big races, who is ready for a huge 2023, the crazy deep Challenge Roth start list (which includes Sid!), and what’s on our schedules.
Plus, sponsorships and trends we’re keeping our eye on.
Stay tuned as we ease back into a regular podcast, every other Tuesday, schedule—and we’ll be handing over the mic to Sid for some fun behind-the-scenes interviews coming up.

We’re back after a holiday (and traveling) break to chat about all the January announcements: the official Nice-Kona Ironman World Championship split, the new PTO races, the Global Tri Awards. And, lots and lots of gossip.
We’ll be handing the mic over to Sid for some interviews coming up, but with such a weird start to the year, we just wanted to catch everyone up first on what’s been going on.

For the last episode of 2022, Sid & Kelly do a quick recap of the high points of the year and then look forward to next year. What do they want to see in 2023?
Then Sid takes the mic to talk to NASCAR and NFL reporter and host Shannon Spake about her experience in front of the camera at CLASH Daytona—and about what she’s learned from triathlon. The avid triathlete and well-known on-air reporter shares her tips for making it all work.
Take notes. Some insight to bring with you into 2023.

We’ll have one more final episode of 2022 late next week, where Sid & Kelly will recap the year and talk to a special guest.
But before the holidays, we wanted to first bring you the inspiring story of Zeinab Rezaie, who started out running at a military base for safety and became a part of She Can Tri, a small group of women in Afghanistan who wanted to become the first female triathletes in the country. Zeinab shares her story of leaving Afghanistan in the wake of the Taliban takeover, how much she’s had to overcome, and what it meant to make the cut-off at the 70.3 World Championships by just one minute.

This week we had the mic over to Laura Siddall for a conversation with her friend, training partner, and Ultraman World Champion Dede Griesbauer.
A few weeks ago, Sid was part of the crew for Dede’s record-setting win on the Big Island. This week, Sid and Dede go deep on all the details of Ultraman, what it takes behind-the-scenes and on the race course, and how you even get sucked into the three-day race in the first place.
Dede is a former collegiate swimmer turned a former Wall Street trader, who turned into a champion pro triathlete. And now, at 52, she’s still setting course records. We’ll let the two of them tell you the rest.

Sid’s back for this week’s episode—this time she comes to us from Daytona—and we break down last week’s big news, the broadcast from the Florida racetrack, and all the latest results.
And then, using many of the questions you all brought up, we chatted with Kate Veronneau about the work that went into the first women’s Tour de France, how she went from injured basketball player to tour de force for women’s cycling, and what triathlon can learn from that experience as we think about world championship races for men and women.
One note: We throw some spectator stats in there when we’re talking and, while triathlon spectator stats are notoriously fudge-y and hard to pin down, we should correct some numbers. Ironman has said in the past that its live Kona Facebook coverage gets 10-20 million views (meaning someone watches at some point) and the PTO has said it got 2-3 million live for its inaugural Collins Cup, even Jan’s Battle Royale claimed to reach 8 million people on German broadcast TV.

We do a special Triathlonish collab live episode with Feisty Media to dissect the announcement that 2023 Kona will be a women’s-only world championship, with a separate championship men’s event—swapping in the opposite years.
Along with pros Sarah True and Haley Chura, Ironman CEO Andrew Messick joins us to answer a few of the most important questions you all raised.
Important things we learned:
* The long-term commitment is to two days of racing, and to grow the number of spots available, especially for women—how that absolutely has to play out is to be seen
* The AG men’s and women’s qualifying slots are now being allocated in separate pools. (You can see the allocations here and the FAQ here)
* The Ironman World Championship is recognized by World Triathlon as the official world championship, after a contentious lawsuit designating it as the officially recognized world champ even though it’s not overseen by the international federation. Fun fact.
Next week, we’ll be back with Sid to talk about everything, hear from the women’s Tour de France organizer, and get the details on the Ultraman World Championships.

Sid is in Hawaii on crewing duties for Ultraman—and tells us what Kona is like when it’s not Kona. Then we preview the big battle for the World Triathlon Championship Series title in Abu Dhabi.
Plus, a few results that we had our eye on this past weekend, what we think about the rankings changes coming, and maternity policies.
And announcements of announcements to come.
