In the latest Trader Talk, host Kenny Polcari speaks about why the “buy the dip” mantra isn’t always a winning strategy and how disciplined, fundamentals-based investing creates lasting wealth. Rob Luna, an entrepreneur and founder of Rob Luna Wealth Academy, recounts his journey from humble beginnings to building a successful wealth management business. He emphasizes that investors must analyze earnings, revenue growth, and debt levels to avoid catching falling knives. Both Polcari and Luna agree that a clear investment thesis, early financial planning, and ongoing financial education are essential for navigating volatile markets and bridging the wealth gap.

In the latest Trader Talk, host Kenny Polcari speaks with Donato Cuttone about how technology and “embedded finance” are reshaping brokerages. Cuttone, who spent decades on the NYSE floor before joining DriveWealth Institutional, explains how the old system of opening traditional brokerage accounts is giving way to digital wallets, fractional trading, and automated “round-up” features. These innovations enable investors—even those overseas—to buy fractions of US stocks for as little as a dollar, 24 hours a day, five days a week.
Adapting to this shift, Cuttone says, brokerages require new routing and settlement frameworks that can handle massive transaction volumes and same-day clearance. Regulators still lag behind as markets move from analog to digital, but modern tech can bridge the gap. Polcari likens the evolution to cooking this week's dish Veal Osso Bucco: patience, adaptability, and a willingness to embrace innovation are the key ingredients for success.
Veal Osso Bucco
Ingredients
Osso Bucco
6 veal shanks
Kosher salt & freshly ground black pepper
Flour (gluten-free optional)
Extra-virgin olive oil
1 large onion, roughly chopped (about 1 cup)
2 carrots, peeled and roughly chopped (about 1 cup)
1 stalk celery, roughly chopped (about ¾ cup)
1 small can tomato paste (not purée)
8 medium garlic cloves, crushed or finely chopped
Red wine (for deglazing)
Beef broth
Gremolata
½ cup flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped
1 tablespoon lemon zest (from 1–2 lemons)
2 garlic cloves, minced
ServingPolenta (prepared according to package instructions)
Steps
Preheat Oven
Heat oven to 350°F.
Season & Dredge
Rinse veal shanks and pat dry.
Season with salt and pepper.
Dredge each shank in flour (use gluten-free flour if desired).
Brown the Shanks
Heat olive oil in a frying pan over high heat.
Brown shanks on all sides, searing to lock in juices.
Transfer to a roasting pan, leaving space between them.
Add Aromatics
Scatter the chopped onion, carrot, celery, and crushed garlic over the shanks.
Sprinkle a little lemon zest on top.
Deglaze & Make Sauce
Return to the frying pan.
Deglaze with red wine, scraping up any browned bits.
Stir in beef broth and the tomato paste.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let it thicken for about 4 minutes.
If needed, add a bit more broth to maintain a saucy consistency.
Braise
Pour this wine-broth mixture over the veal shanks in the roasting pan.
Cover tightly and place in the 350°F oven for 1 hour.
Reduce heat to 325°F and continue cooking for another 4 hours, until veal is very tender.
Puree Half the Veggies
Remove half of the cooked vegetables and puree them to create a smoother sauce.
Make the Gremolata
Combine parsley, lemon zest, and minced garlic in a small bowl.
Set aside to use as a bright finishing touch.
Plate & Serve
Spoon polenta onto each plate, forming a bed.
Place a veal shank on top of the polenta.
Surround the shank with the remaining (non-pureed) braised vegetables.

On this week’s Trader Talk, host Kenny Polcari stresses that emotional trading—chasing hot stocks or panic-selling at minor dips—is a surefire way to lose. Instead, decisions should hinge on strategy and data.
Guest Kristina Hooper, Chief Global Market Strategist at Invesco, raises U.S. recession odds to 30–35%, citing four simultaneous “swing factors”: tariffs, China’s stimulus uncertainty, renewed inflation pressures, and looming spending cuts. This combination has rattled corporate plans and heightened market volatility.
The bottom line? Markets hate guesswork and emotional overreactions. Polcari and Hooper agree that level-headed, well-researched approaches outperform impulsive trades every time.

What do chasing oil prices, a forward-looking energy strategy, and a bison burger recipe have in common? They’re at the heart of the latest Trader Talk episode, where host Kenny Polcari and guest Lou Basenese dive into why focusing on the bigger trend in energy is far more profitable than reacting to every price swing. Broadcasting from the New York Stock Exchange, Polcari draws on decades of Wall Street experience to cut through the noise and help you build a smarter, steadier investment playbook.
Polcari opens by warning against “chasing oil”—the practice of rushing into energy stocks the moment prices tick up or selling at the first sign of a downturn. He explains that oil is inherently volatile, subject to geopolitics, production decisions, and economic cycles. Instead of betting on short-term moves, Polcari advocates zooming out: Oil demand remains robust, and US producers have become major global players, helping stabilize prices in the long run.
Basenese, executive vice president of Market Strategy at Prairie Operating Company, elaborates on a growth-focused approach to domestic energy production. He emphasizes that new drilling technologies have changed the game, allowing smaller firms to tap proven reserves more efficiently, often at attractive valuations. Rather than trying to guess the next $150-per-barrel spike, Basenese suggests zeroing in on companies poised to thrive over time—particularly those balancing production, acquisitions, and sustainability in areas like Colorado’s DJ Basin.
As always, Polcari wraps with three essential market tips—review the macro outlook, form your own opinion, and keep a calendar of key events—before serving up his signature recipe, this time a Big Board Bison Burger inspired by NYSE history. It’s a perfect blend of American heritage and forward-thinking strategy, both on and off the trading floor.
Big Board Bison Burger with Market Rally Onions Recipe

Optional Toppings
Butter lettuce
Steps
Season the BisonForm two burger patties from the bison.
Season both sides with Broker’s Blend (salt, pepper, garlic powder).
Prepare the OnionsIn a pan over medium heat, melt butter.
Add sliced onions and cook until they soften.
Stir in bourbon and maple syrup, and continue cooking until onions are golden and caramelized.
Grill or SearGrill or cook bison patties in a cast iron skillet for about 4 minutes per side for medium-rare.
Bison is lean, so avoid overcooking.
Top with CheeseDuring the final minute of cooking, top each patty with sharp white cheddar.
Cover or tent with foil briefly to help the cheese melt.
Toast the BunsToast brioche buns until golden brown.
Mix the SauceIn a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, roasted red peppers, fresh herbs, and a pinch of cayenne.
AssembleSpread Wall Street Sauce on the toasted buns.
Add butter lettuce (if desired).

In the latest Trader Talk episode, where host Kenny Polcari and Dr. Scholl Foundation President and CEO Dan Mahaffee explore the geopolitical myths and realities shaping today’s markets. Broadcasting from the New York Stock Exchange, Polcari leverages decades of institutional experience to cut through the noise and help investors focus on what truly matters.
Polcari opens by debunking the popular belief in imminent rate cuts—a comforting bedtime story for many investors. He points out that the economy isn’t collapsing: the labor market remains robust, wages are strong, and corporate earnings are mostly solid. Rate cuts, he explains, are not a gift but a tool for deep economic distress. Instead of banking on a Fed pivot, investors should base decisions on the actual data.
Mahaffee brings a global perspective, delving into how geopolitical tensions—such as the European challenges and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine—intertwine with trade negotiations. He discusses critical mineral deals necessary for modern industries like semiconductors and drones, highlighting the delicate balance between national security and economic interests. Mahaffee also warns against relying on quick fixes, emphasizing that tariffs and reciprocal measures are tools for negotiation, not guaranteed solutions.
Rounding out the episode, Polcari shares three essential market tips: tune into central bank briefings, analyze earnings beyond headline figures, and stay alert to geopolitical developments. And, as always, the show concludes with a nod to tradition—the Luncheon Club Lobster Roll, a market recipe steeped in NYSE history.

1 tablespoon fresh chives, minced

What do market fundamentals, active ETF strategies, and global investing challenges have in common? They’re at the core of the latest Trader Talk episode, where host Kenny Polcari and guest Rob Haugen, a seasoned market maker now with River1 Asset Management, explore how to navigate today’s dynamic public markets. Broadcasting from the iconic New York Stock Exchange, Polcari leverages decades of institutional trading experience to help investors decode market behavior and capitalize on opportunities.
Polcari kicks off by reminiscing about his early days on the trading floor, emphasizing that while a company’s fundamentals are crucial over the long term, short-term price movements are largely driven by supply and demand dynamics. “It’s not just about a company’s value—it’s about who’s buying and who’s selling,” Haugen notes. This insight underpins his active ETF strategy, which blends rigorous fundamental analysis with timely tactical moves guided by technical indicators like moving averages, RSI, and relative strength.
Haugen also addresses global market considerations, cautioning investors about emerging markets—particularly China. He explains that while China presents opportunities, its stocks are fraught with “stroke-of-a-pen” risks due to sudden regulatory shifts, making Chinese ADRs a less attractive proposition compared to stable, developed markets like Europe and the United States.
By focusing on sectors with strong inflows and robust pricing power, Haugen’s approach demonstrates how strategic positioning can turn market dislocations into long-term gains.
Be sure to check out Kenny's recipe of the week below.
Kenny’s Classic Bolognese Recipe
Ingredients
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons butter
1 cup diced onion
1 cup diced celery
1 cup diced carrot
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound ground beef (or half beef/half pork)
1 cup whole milk
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup white wine (Pinot Grigio recommended)
1 (28-ounce) can crushed “kitchen-ready” tomatoes
2 parmesan cheese rinds
Salt and pepper (to taste)
Steps
Sauté Vegetables: In a large pot over medium heat, add the olive oil and butter. Once melted, stir in the onion, celery, and carrot. Season with salt and pepper. Sauté for about 10 minutes.
Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 2 minutes.
Brown the Meat: Add the ground meat, season with salt and pepper, and break it up with a fork. Cook until it’s fully browned.
Simmer with Milk: Pour in the cup of milk. Lower the heat and simmer, stirring often, until the milk is mostly absorbed (about 15 minutes).
Add Nutmeg & Wine: Stir in the nutmeg and then the white wine. Simmer again until the wine is absorbed.
Combine Tomatoes & Rinds: Stir in the crushed tomatoes and the parmesan rinds. Bring the sauce to a slow boil, then immediately reduce to a low simmer.
Long Simmer: Leave the pot uncovered and let it simmer for about 3 hours. Stir every 10 minutes. (If the sauce gets too thick halfway through, add a splash of water.)
Finish & Serve: Season with salt and pepper. Remove the cheese rinds before serving. Spoon the Bolognese over a hearty pasta like Rigatoni.

What do tariffs, long/short strategies, and robust market insights have in common? They’re the focus of the latest Trader Talk episode, where host Kenny Polcari and guest Tom Hayes, founder, chairman, and managing member of Great Hill Capital, dive into volatile market trends and actionable strategies for investors. Broadcasting from the iconic New York Stock Exchange, Polcari leverages decades of institutional trading experience to help you navigate market uncertainty amid shifting trade dynamics.
Polcari opens by addressing how tariff headlines trigger investor panic—stocks fall and volatility spikes—despite tariffs being standard taxes on imported goods meant to protect domestic industries and bolster government revenues. Hayes explains that it’s not the tariffs themselves but the emotional responses they elicit that create opportunities. “Sell the rumor, buy the news,” he emphasizes, noting that market dislocations expose companies with strong pricing power and diversified supply chains.
Hayes also shares his views on long/short strategies, comparing today’s market dynamics to past cycles. He highlights that after periods of political and economic shocks, international and emerging markets often rebound, offering attractive long-term prospects. Balancing fundamental analysis with technical indicators such as moving averages, RSI, and relative strength helps investors time entries and exits effectively.
Later in the episode, Polcari wraps up with a culinary twist, sharing the backstory and recipe for his guest-favorite veal Parmesan—a beloved Italian-American dish that perfectly illustrates the art of smart investing.

What do earnings season, rising interest rates, and a housing shortage have in common? They’re the focus of the latest Trader Talk episode, where host Kenny Polcari and guest Stephanie Link, Chief Investment Strategist at Hightower Advisors, tackle the biggest market trends and economic questions of 2025. Broadcasting live from the iconic New York Stock Exchange, Polcari leverages decades of institutional trading experience to help investors navigate market uncertainty, inflation pressures, and evolving GDP growth.
Polcari kicks off the episode by emphasizing the importance of momentum trading—using tools like moving averages, RSI, MACD, and strict stop-loss orders—to capture rising assets and exit declining ones at the right moment. He explains that earnings reports provide a real-time economic pulse, shedding light on labor trends, inflation, and new product launches that are crucial for investors.
Stephanie Link forecasts a GDP growth rate of 2 to 2.5% for 2025, noting that Trump’s pro-growth policies, lower taxes, and deregulation are driving optimism in the technology and manufacturing sectors. Despite the current environment with mortgage rates hovering near 7%, both experts agree that a drop to sub-5% levels could stimulate the housing market—a sector still grappling with a shortage of about 5 million homes.
No Trader Talk episode is complete without a culinary twist. Polcari shares his Champagne Chicken recipe—a classic dish that, much like a balanced portfolio, combines precision with flavor.

What do market whipsaws, Fed uncertainty, and a classic Italian stew have in common? They’re the focus of the latest Trader Talk episode, with host Kenny Polcari and guest John Lonski tackling the biggest economic questions of 2025. From inflation risks to consumer resilience, Polcari cuts through the noise to help investors stay ahead.
In this episode, Polcari welcomes John Lonski, a seasoned economist and former Chief Economist at Moody’s, to break down shifting market sentiment. The two dive into the debate over Federal Reserve policy, with Polcari firmly in the camp that rate cuts are unlikely this year. Lonski agrees that inflation is creeping back, warning that continued GDP growth could push interest rates higher rather than lower. “We’re starting at full employment,” he explains. “If economic momentum holds, the Fed may have no choice but to keep rates steady—or even raise them.”
As tariff speculation grows, Lonski views them as a strategic bargaining tool rather than an imminent economic threat. Meanwhile, strong corporate earnings and tight credit spreads suggest that businesses remain optimistic, reinforcing market stability.
No Trader Talk episode is complete without a culinary touch. Be sure to check out Polcari's latest recipe for giambotta—a hearty Italian stew that, much like investing, is all about balance and patience.

What do a rollercoaster quantum market, hawkish Fed commentary, and a sizzling grilled ribeye have in common? They’re the focus of the latest Trader Talk episode, with host Kenny Polcari and guest Sylvia Jablonski diving into the latest on Wall Street. From navigating quantum hype to predicting rate cuts, Polcari cuts through the noise to help you keep your portfolio intact.
In this episode, Polcari welcomes Sylvia Jablonski, CEO and CIO of Defiance ETF, who shares her expertise on the future of quantum investing. The two discuss the fallout from Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s recent claim that quantum computing is “15 to 30 years away,” which sent quantum stocks tumbling. Jablonski, however, is more optimistic, pointing to real-world use cases already taking shape in sectors like risk management and drug discovery. “Quantum already exists in some form,” she asserts. “We’re not waiting decades for innovation—it’s here, just not the flawless version people imagine.”
For those rattled by recent turbulence, Polcari doubles down on the importance of research. “Find the disruptors and do your homework,” he advises. “Big run-ups don’t guarantee sustainable stories—educate yourself and build positions methodically.”
No Trader Talk episode is complete without a culinary touch, and this week, Polcari offers a recipe to soothe market-induced stress: grilled ribeye on a bed of fresh arugula and red onions, finished with shaved Grana Padano. Simple, flavorful, and perfectly paired with actionable market insights.

What do a turbulent job market, surging bond yields, and a plate of Linguine Arrabiata all have in common? They’re front and center in the debut installment of Trader Talk, with host Kenny Polcari back on the New York Stock Exchange floor. As markets whipsaw on every snippet of Federal Reserve commentary, Polcari cuts through the noise, reminding viewers that “sometimes, good news is bad news”—especially if you’re banking on rate cuts alone.
In this week’s episode, Polcari welcomes special guest Adam Johnson, a former hedge fund manager and Bloomberg anchor. They dig into the fallout from a stronger-than-expected jobs report, why towering bond yields could stir up fresh turbulence, and which sectors might brace best against a downturn. “I’m an investor, not a trader,” Johnson tells Polcari, “I always tell my clients ‘It’s about time in the market and not timing the market.’”
For the hungry investors, Polcari stirs up more than just trading tips—his Linguine Arrabiata recipe brings some culinary spice to the day’s heated market action.
