  • In this special episode, recorded in the beautiful, snowy Whitefish Lake, Montana, I dive into the powerful cycle of life and success. I reflect on the powerful cycle of growth: how good times create weakness, and tough times build strength. Life is about doing hard things and finding fulfillment in the face of challenges. Tune in for a message of resilience, purpose and facing the hard things.

  • I dreaded the day knowing it was coming…and it’s here. Since my son Luke was in the 7th grade and he started playing Pop Warner football, I always put a “helmet note” in his helmet the night before every game. I did the same thing with my son Brady as well, albeit a different message. I do the same thing with what I call “Cleat Notes” for my daughter McKenna’s lacrosse and soccer games now. But this weekend is my last HELMET NOTE.

WOW. I’ve never shared a HELMET NOTE publicly…until today. 10+ years of writing notes before ALL their games. Sometimes it’s a few sentences. Normally it’s a few paragraphs. Every now and then it’s a bit longer. Today, it’s DEEP.

On today’s IMPACT SHOW podcast, you will hear…

How my father started the tradition of “Helmet Notes” with me as a 6th-Grade
Pop Warner player and the IMPACT it had on me. The frame-work of every HELMET NOTE or CLEAT NOTE. Why do “Helmet Notes” or “Cleat Notes” for your kids? My LAST HELMET NOTE. “9” Traits of Greatness. What can you do for your kids, or grand-kids, or those you coach/mentor?

While this weekend will be Luke’s last college football game and I’m excited to see him play, I’m also excited to drop some gems in this one that are going to serve him the rest of his life. Here we go…

If you enjoy today’s podcast and found value in it, can you please SHARE IT with someone who will benefit also. Maybe it’s your kids who now have kids themselves and want to start a tradition. Or maybe it’s a coach or trainer who wants to start a tradition like this for their student-athletes, knowing this is a great way to drop in wisdom to their kid. Either way, please SHARE IT NOW or

  • What a fun episode today as I got the opportunity to sit down and chop it up
with 3-young college interns from Fitness Quest 10 and their Director (Ryan
Rogers). It was awesome to have an open conversation on all things on
their mind and how I can help them on their journey in health, fitness, &
coaching. They asked some very thought-provoking questions that lead to
    deep reflections and deep answers.

Here are the questions that the 3 interns (Larry Hando, Max Jackson, and
Ian Castillo) asked Ryan Rogers and I on today’s IMPACT SHOW podcast:

    1. "What was the moment that you knew you wanted to go into fitness &
motivational speaking and what has made you stay on this path?"

    2. "How do you find the balance between personal life and your passion for
    fitness and helping people?"

    3. “How do you keep your mind right through the pain & struggle you have
    had to endure?"

    4. “When you're in your dark times, or you fail, or you feel guilty about
something, how do you process that and get through it?”

    5. "How do you keep your ego in check when working with both high-level
athletes and everyday clients? How do you stay humble and treat
    everyone equally?"

    6. "What’s the most fulfilling part of your work and how do you stay
    motivated after years of coaching?"

    7. “What advice do you have for young coaches or trainers just starting out
    in the industry?"

    8. “In 24-years of Fitness Quest 10, what were your fondest memories and
most special experiences, accolades, or events?”

Man, did I love this conversation. Some of the macro-themes centered
    around topics such as…

The power of SHOWING-UP. The concept of “Be Humble…Be Hungry” and how that relates these days. The importance of building relationships and the right network, as this lends to your community that you are part of. How to deal with physical pain, loss, failure, and challenge…and how they ultimately can serve as catalysts for growth also. Building a career with Purpose and the elements it requires to do so over years and decades. The Beauty of the Beginning, when there were no frills and just hard work, dedication, and a driving vision to help people. Wisdom & advice for New Coaches & Trainers.

MAN!! This was such a fun episode and it was so great getting to
connect with these young interns who are eager to learn and grow in
the fitness industry. Their questions reminded of the power of
consistency, the importance of showing up, and the incredible impact
coaching can have on someone. While the road to success can often
be tough, filled with challenges and even pain, it’s in those very
moments that we experience the most growth. Keep growing…and
    keep going!

  • Join me in this short meditation today. Be aware of your energy. Shift your energy to be where you want it to be. Just stop, take 3 deep breaths, and relax your body & your mind.

  • I’m sitting on the banks of Lake Norman, NC, as I record this and I’m feeling especially sentimental and emotional. There are several reasons why, but none more than the fact that my Mom, “Muffy” Durkin, is aging and she turns 92-years old this week. She’s down in Florida resting-up and I want to celebrate her with all of you in my podcast community. As a matter of fact, I want to dedicate this episode to her today.

My family has been spending a lot of time down in FL the last several months as she needs round the clock health care. Well, I’ve shared before that Mom has not thrown out too much sentimental stuff over the years (remember, I’ve also shared that’s where I received this bad “pack-rat gene” from) and I’ve joked that it will someday come in handy. Today is ONE of those days…

Here is what I share in this week’s episode:

A birthday letter I wrote to my Mom in 1986 (when I was just 15-years old).

4-special traits I want to share about Momma Durkin.

Why it’s important to know “You’re Day is Coming.”

    WOW Book Chapter #10.

The best thing Momma Durkin ever did for me and my family.

ACTION Steps to take to become an even better parent, coach, mentor, or friend.

What are a few of your fondest memories of your Mom…and/or your Dad?

What traits do/did they have that you most admire?

How do you best exhibit those traits now as a parent (or as a mentor, friend, or colleague)?

How can you even better display these traits, characteristics, and commitment?

A “fitting” close to the episode from one of my favorite conversations with her a few years back.

It was an emotional episode. Thanks for celebrating Momma Durkin with me and I hope it spurs you into taking action into becoming an even better parent, coach, mentor, or friend.

  • I was introduced to the Theragun (percussive vibrational product) when I was filming NBC STRONG back in 2015 and it about saved my life. Seriously. It was one of those moments where you say to yourself, “Man, I wish I had thought of this and invented it.” Well, it wasn’t long after that I met the founder of the Theragun and the parent company, Therabody, Dr. Jason Wersland.

Dr. Jason Wersland is an inspirational man who has had decades of big highs and devastating lows. He is a chiropractor and healer by trade and his entrepreneurial pursuits have been paved with personal and professional challenges such as bankruptcy, divorce, and great loss. Here is some of what we discuss on today’s IMPACT SHOW:

    PROFESSIONAL:

You’re a chiro by trade. How did you come to create the Theragun? And when was that…

2015 & 2016. STRONG. I got introduced to Theragun and fell in love with it. Where was the company at then?

9-years later, tell us about where Therabody is at NOW?

What’s your vision of Therabody for the next 3-5 years?

You personally and Therabody have been playing a BIG PART in the “Recovery” pillar of the IMPACT-X Performance fitness & coaching franchise. We are really excited about this relationship. Tell our listeners what we are doing in that “Recovery” space and what most excites you about this relationship?

What are 3-5 of your TOP HABITS as a busy professional that keep you sane.

What is your “divine uniqueness” or your “super power”?

What’s something that you do that no one knows that helps you be YOU.

Your brother. You lost him several years back. How did you get through that most difficult period of your life?

What one thing am I NOT asking you that you wish I did.

Legacy. Life a life worth telling a story about…what’s your story? Your life. Your legacy. What do you want them to say about your life someday…

WOW. What an episode. The wisdom and “war-scars” behind Dr Jason is evident. You can literally feel his authenticity, drive, and mission to change the world and “be in the home of every American.” That to me is IMPACT!

  • Buckle-up today my friends. International IMPACT Day is this week (October 10th). Therefore, I can think of no one better to be on the IMPACT SHOW podcast this week than a man who is creating a whole heck of a ton of IMPACT. His name is Andrew Ruiz and wait until you hear his inspiring story.

Andrew Ruiz is someone I’ve known for more than a dozen years. He started with me as a client when he was a college football player. Then he became an intern. A decade later, as a young father & husband, he enrolled in my God-Sized Dreams coaching program. And then he became part of my IMPACT-Coaching program for high-performers. And NOW, he is opening up our first proto-type IMPACT-X Performance brick & mortar franchise in Huntington Beach, CA. Let’s GOO!!!

Andrew is one of the sharpest, smartest, and most empathetic leaders I know and he’s doing amazing things both in his career as a leader within radiology at “C.H.O.C.” (Children’s Hospital of Orange County) and now within the fitness space as the proud owner of IMPACT-X Performance Huntington Beach (CA).

Here is some of what we talked about on this week’s IMPACT SHOW podcast:

You are the proud new owner of IMPACT-X Performance in Huntington Beach, CA. Your Grand Opening is on Nov 7th. You are in the middle of a complete buildout as we speak as MOMENTUM FITNESS transforms to IXP. How are you feeling? What are you MOST EXCITED for with your IMPACT-X Performance business?

How did all this come about?

There are 4 pillars of IMPACT-X Performance…Fitness, Recovery, Life-coaching, and Faith. What are you MOST excited within these pillars? Which one of these pillars do you believe has the most growth opportunities?

If you could look in a crystal ball or prognosticate the future, what is your vision of the future for your IXP? Where will you be in 5-10 years?

Can you talk about the resources, mentorship, and guidance you’ve received throughout this journey of opening up an IMPACT-X Performance?

You are leading the charge at IXP with long-time colleague and fitness industry standout Amanda Mittleman. Talk about that…

As a leader (both at CHOC & IXP), what are Andrew Ruiz’s TOP 5 LEADERSHIP Principles?

If someone was considering taking their current gym and partnering with us to become an IMPACT-X Performance, why would they WANT to or NOT WANT to do this…

You are busy as heck. Lots going on these days. What are 3-5 of your TOP HABITS as a busy professional that’s keeping you sane.

WHY are YOU doing all this?

BE THE LIGHT. What does “BE THE LIGHT” mean to you and why are you so excited for IXP and our mission to BE THE LIGHT and create more IMPACT in communities across America?

Andrew is one of the best human-beings you will ever meet. He is full of empathy, compassion, and care, and truly wants to make a massive IMPACT in this world.

  • Who’s fired-up and what’s on YOUR mind? Today, we are going out to one of my
favorite speaking engagements of the entire year for the podcast. I recently went
over to my great friend and mentor Pastor David Jeremiah’s school and delivered
a chapel service to over 1,000 kids. The chapel at Christian Unified schools was
revitalized over 7-years ago when Pastor Jeremiah breathed new life into it. It has
since become a weekly highlight for the kids. I’ve been honored to speak at
chapel 2x per year for the last 7-years and I love connecting with these kids and
bringing some energy, inspiration, and faith-messaging to them.

This one is called “What’s On Your Mind” and I think you are going to like it.
Without further ado, here are the 5 things I talked about at chapel:

MINDSET over matter. FAITH over fear. STRENGTH over weakness. WORSHIP over worry. LIGHT over darkness.

The kids were enthusiastic, energized, and no doubt LOCKED-IN. Be sure to
listen-in and let us know what you think. If it speaks to you, please share this

  • Pete Holman is one of the most innovative, illustrious, and impactful
coaches of our generation. He’s a Renaissance man when it comes to
training as he combines an extremely scientific approach, with an almost
Eastern Zen mix of movement, along with a mindset of a stone-cold warrior.
Pete Holman has the heart of a lion, the training mentality of a Navy Seal,
the energy of a Bruce Lee, and the spirit of a monk. He has invented over a
dozen products (TRX Rip Trainer, Glute Drive, and Glute Slide to name just
a few), he has trained the highest level athletes in the world, he has been a
national-champion (Taekwondo Do), and he’s a great father to boot.

His body of work as a world-class coach, inventor, author, and speaker
spans over 2-decadees and he has helped tens of thousands of people,
whether pro-athletes, adolescent athletes, or fitness business owners
looking to improve their entrepreneurial impact. I’m really excited for you to
meet him as he’s a great friend and someone filled with great energy,
passion, authenticity, and desire to help improve people’s quality of life.
On this week’s IMPACT SHOW, I want to talk about what’s going on in the
world of Pete Holman. This includes:

What are the 3-5 of the best habits of Pete Holman? You are a father of Brooke Holman, who just left for college. You
invested a lot of time into her growth & development. Please share
more. The “what you did, why you did it, and how you did it?” You have invented a lot of products. Which ones, to date, have been
most meaningful? Self-actualization. Please explain the 5-steps towards self-actualization. Your latest product…the Glute Slide. Talk about it. What’s next for the Glute Slide and how do you get it out? Can we
expect to see you on QVC, IG ads, inside of Target on a box, or where
are we going to see you? Do you believe you have created your defining product yet? IMPACT is legacy. What’s Pete’s Holman’s legacy going to be? What doyou want them to say about you long after you are gone?

  • My friends, be the lighthouse in a world full of darkness. It’s important to keep your light on, even on the toughest days. Whether you're battling personal challenges, feeling lost, or struggling to show up, this episode serves as a powerful reminder that your light has the potential to guide and serve others. With heartfelt moments and relatable struggles, you'll leave feeling empowered to keep going, even when the world feels heavy. This is your call to be the light in someone else's dark sea. Tune in!

  • This is one of the wildest podcast episodes you will ever hear. Tamer Elnoury is the first Muslim FBI agent to go public about the agency’s undercover war on terror. Tamer spent nearly two decades infiltrating and thwarting the most dangerous Al-Qaeda and ISIS terror cells in the United States and around the world. As a matter of fact, Tamer helped thwart several post “9-11” attempts and literally has some of the most unbelievable stories you will ever hear or could possibly imagine. Just LISTEN in today and be mesmerized by this man’s career and what he has done. WOW!

Here are some of the questions that Tamer Elnoury and I discussed on the IMPACT SHOW:

One of your undercover techniques is letting the “target” choose you. Why is that so important, and how difficult is it to get the target to “choose” you sometimes?

How does a covert counter-terrorism operation come to be and what exactly was your role?

How did you get recruited to be part of this task force?

What was the hardest part about your job?

How important are the teams you work with?

What was your method for getting into character when about to go undercover each time? How long did it take him?

How long were you undercover for each time you would go over to the Middle East?

The story of the “American Sleeper” that you talk about at the end of the “60 Minutes” episode. Do you still think the “American Sleeper” is in the US and do you still wonder if you would have found him if you stayed in the FBI?

Did you ever think your cover was blown?

Did your family know why you were away when you were undercover?

How many alias’ did you actually have undercover?

Why did you write the book, American Radical? Visit www.AmericanRadical.com for more information.

6-pillars from TD that summarize Tamer Elnoury’s career.

WOW. You talk about IMPACT and legacy. What a crazy story that has positively impacted (and SAVED!) thousands of lives. And thank God there are people like Tamer Elnoury to take down the “bad guys.” My heart is so full of gratitude for the men & women who are doing things that Tamer did…and we have no idea that it’s even happening!

Enjoy this episode as it truly was one of the most eye-opening and unbelievable episodes of all 378-episodes. If you find it as fascinating as me, please give us a 5-star rating & write a review on Apple…and then please share it on your Social Media. You can tag me at:
