This episode was originally recorded March 2022.
Note from Danna: Shortly after recording, I continued to read about flat earth theories and stumbled upon an explanation in a forum that conceded that while the Earth may not be flat, the emergence of flat earth theories and their growing popularity had more to do with the ability to think “outside the sphere” if you will. It’s like saying that the evidence that Earth is specifically spherical was an example of the way the public is pointed toward one specific point of view. I would still argue that usually the public is guided by general consensus, the accountability of peer review, and basic logic. However, I do respect the idea of wanting to be able to say, “Yes, okay, but what if", and what that thought exercise allows us to question in all parts of our life. -
