In Episode 165 of Theology In Particular, I’m joined by Dr. James Renihan to discuss Ephesians 4:11-13: “And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ…” (Ephesians 4:11–13, ESV). The question is, who is to do “the work of ministry”? Does this work belong to the “saints”, or “the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers”? The popular interpretation today is that the saints are to be equipped to do the work of the ministry. Dr. Renihan argues that the work of the ministry is to de done by shepherds and teachers.

Thanks be to God, “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:13–14, ESV)
