The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode focuses on the story of several NPCs in the first Pillars of Eternity game, and narrows in on the connective tissue between their stories, backstories, relationships and side quests.
Random side note, I had recorded some thoughts on the Tango & Arkane closures but removed them just because I don't think it was necessary for me to do so. But I do think it's sad, and wonder what it means for the industry. If you'd like to strike up a conversation send me an email. Also, I'm sure we will talk about it on Avowedcast; perhaps I'll say something next week after thinking. Anyways, that was nothing that needed to be said, but there it is...

The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode focuses on the "Seeker, Slayer Survivor" DLC for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. The focus is going to be on the 'god' of Toamowhai, but it will also include lore on the surrounding island (Kazuwari) and the Temple/Crucible you spend a lot of time at (Temple of Toamowhai), as well as the story of what's going on there.
The first portion of today's episode are spoiler-free, but be warned the second portion contain MAJOR SPOILERS for the DLC of this game, so keep that in mind moving forward.

The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
In this week's episode I focus on one of the nations within the world of Eora setting. It's one we hear about a lot, but don't actually have a single substantial source of lore for. There's a lot to be said, however, when you add it all up. After discussing Naasitaq and its culture, I redirect attention to a Pillars of Eternity (1) companion character, Sagani, and discuss her particular story.

The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode is about "the Great Reef", a naturally occurring structure of the Deadfire Archipelago which may hold deeper secrets than we know. This lore, as far as I can tell, is only found in the Guidebook for Pillars, and not the game itself. So, this may be new info for a lot of us!

The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode we pit several religious figures from the world of Eora's histories against each other to ask "who would win a fight"... Maybe not a 'fight' as in 'fisticuffs', but in terms of subduing one another. We have five interesting characters throughout Eora's history, each with their own unique abilities that they can bring. Aside from that, the lore behind each character is also interesting for new and old players alike. Hope you enjoy today's episode!

NOTE: there's an important question near the end of the episode (in the 44min area) that I'd like some feedback on.
This week's episode was very randomly decided upon, but the bottom line is: in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire there are some sea shanties you hear sung when sailing throughout the Deadfire Archipelago (the setting for that game). While the lyrics to these songs aren't plumbing the depths of esoteric lore, they do allude to ideas and moments that occur within this fantasy world; and I think it's writing like that which really gives life to a fictional world. So, in honour of that, let's take a look at the lyrical content for the Sea Shanties from the second Pillars of Eternity game...

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy world/setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
In this week's episode we focus on a particular Paladin order within this world (Paladins being individuals you'd classify as "martial zealots"), "The Shieldbearers of St. Elcga". We learn a little bit about their origins, what they stand for, what they condone. As well a bit about the history of this noblewoman, Elcga, in Aedyr's history...Aedyr being the empire that you Avowed player character will hail from.

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy world/setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode breaks down five off-screen adventures from the first Pillars game. These five adventures are of the "Legendary" tier in the game, and as such they have a lot of really interesting and esoteric lore to go over. Honestly, they create more questions than provide answers, but sometimes it's that speculative lore that really gets you into this stuff, ya know?

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy world/setting as developed by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed
Today's episode touches on the last of the main creatures we see in the bestiary for Pillars of Eternity, both of these creatures have decent precedence set for being in Avowed (but whether they are or not, we don't yet know). So I figured, worth taking a look at. Skuldrs are kind of a person-sized humanoid bat creature, the Trolls are... well, trolls! But we discuss/speculate a little on how it is they regenerate health.

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy world/setting developed by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
This week's episode discusses the remainder of the creatures in the "Vessel" category in the bestiary. Vessel creatures are basically things/people that have a weird relationship to a soul being implanted in them (or not leaving when it should) causing a new type of creature/thing to exist as a result. It's very interesting, and tied deeply to important lore/topics in the world of Eora (souls, metaphysics, animancy, etc.)

Today's episode we look at the other confirmed Avowed companion: Giatta Castell. In looking at her short bio in her Cosplay Guide (which you can find on Avowed's website) we learn a bit about who she is, where she (or more specifically, where her family) comes from, and what's going on in her life (recently).
Topics today are:
Animancy (the science of the soul) Vailian Republics (a nation/faction in the world) Ocean Folk (a subspecies of human)support the show: ko-fi.com/worldofeora

The World of Eora is a lore podcast about the fantasy setting/world developed by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG Pillars of Eternity series, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode we take a brief look at Kai, and look behind his single paragraph of lore (from the Kai cosplay guide) to understand who he is, where he comes from, and all that entails. This episode is MOSTLY a discussion on RAUATAI, the empire that Kai would hail from, and the culture that influences his character in the game of Avowed.

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the fantasy world/setting for Obsidian Entertainment's cRPG 'Pillars of Eternity' series, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode focuses a little more on gameplay and a little less on lore - but don't worry, there'll still be some lore to go over. In this episode we will review over a dozen abilities seen in Avowed's trailer(s), and look at how those abilities worked in Pillars to speculate on how they might work for the upcoming game.

The World of Eora is a lore podcast about the unique fantasy world created by Obsidian Entertainment for use in their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode takes a dedicated look at the setting for Avowed: THE LIVING LANDS. Now, I did cover a lot of this lore in episode two, but that was...three years ago now, and was more speculative than this episode is. I hope you enjoy learning about the setting Avowed will be played in, and it got your imaginations going about what we might get to see in the game.

In today's episode we discuss everything that we learned from the Xbox "Extended Developer Direct", hosted by the official Xbox Podcast, including a lot of gameplay related news and some pieces of lore...including two major lore dumbs: the name of the spiritual plague we are sent to investigate, and the presence of an ARCHMAGE in Avowed.

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy world/setting developed by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG Pillars of Eternity series, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode is an exciting one, I go through the entire Avowed Deep Dive pulling out all the contextual lore that both old listeners and new listeners will be able to enjoy.
The topics covered today range from Souls, Companions (one named Giatta), the Aedyr Empire (where we are from), the Living Lands (where Avowed is played), Xaurips (the reptilian enemies we fight), as well as some soul-based metaphysical lore such as "The Wheel" (cycle of reincarnation) and much more...
check out avowed.obsidian.net for some Cosplay guides on Giatta or Kai, as well as some jpegs from the game.
Lastly, I recommend several episodes to go check out if you are new, here are some for you to look up:
#1 - intro/overview to Eora #3 - some stuff on Living Lands (tune in to an upcoming episode for more...) #4-6 - All about the Aedyr Empire #10 - The Wheel (a very important one) #17 - Animancy (the science of souls) #25 - Magic (listen to #10 first though)That should be enough to get you going.

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy setting/world created by Obsidian Entertainment, as seen in their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and the upcoming RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode focuses on a specific society of Dwarf called the "Pargrunen". They are mentioned primarily in the White March DLCs for the first Pillars game. The notable thing for this episode is that these dwarves have been to other locations in the world of Eora, including The Living Lands (where Avowed is set). So, perhaps they (or some of their culture) can be found in the game. Who knows?
In the latter half of the episode I just quickly go over my top10 list of games I enjoyed in 2023 (even though some didn't release in that year), and give shout-outs to some of YOUR personal GOTYs from 2023.

The World of Eora is a news/lore podcast about the original fantasy world/setting as seen in Obsidian Entertainment's cRPG Pillars of Eternity series, and their upcoming RPG: Avowed.
Today's episode discusses some "wilders", which are creatures who have sentience/intelligence (enough to even form their own cultures), but for one reason or another do not enter into the "civilized" societies we see in the world-wide playing field. In particular we look at a 4-armed amphibian race, called Lagufaeths; and the hulking, usually-hostile, Ogre race (and their Eoten cousins).
