In this episode we discuss the lessons we learned in 2022 and how we are bringing them forward into 2023. Share your lessons for this year with us! Listen in now!
Lessons for 2023
- Everyone is on their own journey. You can't live there lives for them or fix everything and always be the saviour.
- You are responsible for your own experience. Check your mindset before reacting to things happening around you. Don't let your scars and knee jerk reactions control your response to stressful situations.
- It's okay to try new things and not feel guilty for changing your priorities. You can love doing something, but you don't have to constantly do it to prove that you love it. We have finite time and money. We can only divide our resources so much before we're overwhelmed and too anxious.
- Activate your vision board to manifest things things you want. Keep it front and centre right on your phone with Canva if you like! This will keep your dreams front of mind. You'll start to see action steps to realize everything you ever wanted.
- Support your community by keeping your hard earned dollars in your community. You'll get better quality, better service and you're helping your community prosper.

In this series finale of our Abortion episodes we welcome Katie Dean from the Viewer Discretion Legislation Coalition. Katie begins with her heartbreaking story and facing off with an anti-abortion group canvasing her neighbourhood with graphic images. That led her to starting the VDLC with Natalie Wakim.
The VDLC is a London, Ontario based organization that started when anti-abortion activists permeated the city with graphic pamphlets and road signs. These images are disturbing and extremely traumatizing to the community. Right now, cities across Canada are being hit hard with alleged aborted fetus images being delivered to homes without an envelope and large signs are being displayed on our street corners traumatizing many people, including children. Its mission is to deal with the offensive graphic images on signs in public and pamphlets delivered doorsteps. The VDLC is working towards changing Canadian law to prohibit the use of such graphic images in public spaces.
The VDLC is proof that anyone has the power to make a difference. As of May 2022 graphic anti-abortion images must be delivered in an opaque envelope with warning labels in London, Ontario.
Although we are focusing on Canada's organizations we hope this episode will inspire you to research how you can support reproductive and human rights in your country.

In this episode we have very special guest Dr. Ruth Habte joining us. She is an OB/GYN Resident out of University of British Columbia and Campaign Organizer for AccessBC. In this discussion Dr. Ruth defines reproductive justice and how prevalent it is in Canada's health care system. She highlights both sides of the conversation as the Right to Parent and the Right to Not Parent. It's shocking how many people are not allowed to make this choice for themselves. There are also several barriers to access for contraception and abortion.
Later in the episode Dr. Ruth takes us through different abortion procedures and the time frame an individual would need each one. She also gives us the facts on fetal development from 6 to 24 weeks. SPOILER: The fetus is not a fully formed human and would not be viable outside the womb (in case you thought otherwise...) Enjoy!
Although we are focusing on Canada's organizations we hope this episode will inspire you to research how you can support reproductive and human rights in your country.

In this episode we have very special guest Joyce Arthur joining us. Joyce has been an abortion rights activist since 1988. She is the founder and Executive Director of Canada’s national pro-choice group, the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada (ARCC), which protects the legal right to abortion on request and works to improve access to quality abortion services. In Part Two of our Abortion Episodes we discuss how everyone can become involved in protecting our access to abortion in Canada. Joyce also explains how people can obtain an abortion if they are living in a city or rurally.
More on Joyce Arthur
Before founding ARCC in 2005, Joyce ran the Pro-Choice Action Network in British Columbia for 10 years and edited the national newsletter Pro-Choice Press, which she began in 1995.
Joyce has written hundreds of articles on abortion and other political and social justice issues. As a media spokesperson and international speaker, she has spoken at dozens of venues in Canada and internationally, given hundreds of media interviews, and appeared in several documentaries.
As a social media activist, Joyce maintains several Facebook pages and websites devoted to reproductive rights, including Abortion News, and she operates email listservs for abortion providers and leading advocates within Canada and around the world.
Joyce is also a co-founder of FIRST, a national feminist group that advocates for the rights of sex workers and for the decriminalization of prostitution in Canada. She moderates the FIRST listserv and FIRST Facebook page, and does media communications for FIRST.
Although we are focusing on Canada's organizations we hope this episode will inspire you to research how you can support reproductive and human rights in your country.
