This is a safe space, I promise. Raise your hand if:
You have a habit of constantly putting other folks' needs ahead of your ownPeople ask you for favors because they KNOW you'll always say yesThe thought of being honest and saying NO makes you sick to your stomach because you don't want to come across as "mean", so you just go along with the flowYou're chronically exhausted from doing hella mental gymnastics in hopes of anticipating the needs and wants of other peopleYou secretly want to hideout so people stop asking you for help or favorsIf you raised your hand to any combination of these questions, you, my friend, might be a people pleaser. What's that? Well according to Natalie Lue, author of The Joy of Saying No, a people pleaser is someone that “suppresses and represses who they are to please others." Ouch right?
If that sounds familiar, don't worry you are not alone. In fact, I am a recovering people pleaser and I learned a lot about why we do it, and how to stop from today's guest, relationship expert-- Natalie Lue.
In today's episode, she's getting down to the core of why we people please, how to recognize if you're doing it, how to stop, why no's aren't a bad thing, and how to create and honor boundaries. If you're ready to take back your power and show up as your full self without the people pleasing then today's episode is for you!

When you hear the phrase #SelfCare what comes to mind?
Is it a trip to the mall to spoil yourself rotten? Or how about a nice warm bath with a glass of Black Girl Magic Riesling? For me, self-care is binging episodes of Love After Lockup and eating a $5 holla from Little Caesar's. Judge yo momma!
Now there is certainly a time and a place for the type of self-care that's all bath bombs and giggles. But then there are times when the soul yearns for more. Where you are called to get still, be quiet and do the inner work. In today's episode, we're chatting with wellness advocate; Taylor Elyse Morrison about what self-care is beyond face masks and matcha. She's showing us how to slow down, tune in + show up for ourselves in the most loving way.

Lately, my inner critic has been going OFF on me, throwing the classic jabs like;
“You’re not good enough”
“It’s too late”
"You're too old"
“You’re doing a bad job”
and the list goes on and on.
And truth be told, I was starting to believe every single one of those lies. That is until I asked myself two small questions that changed the game-
-Does any of that have to be the truth?
-Is there an alternate set of thoughts I can choose to believe about myself?
And asking myself those bad babies nipped my negative self-talk in the bud. If you’re anything like me and struggle with quieting your inner critic, then today's episode is for you (and me).

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could just put your product, service, or idea out there once, and people just showed up consistently to throw money your way?
It would be incredible, but business doesn’t always work out that way. You have to actually market your business. You have to show up on social media, buy ads, create a website, start a yelp page, be a podcast guest, get a booth at a trade show (the list goes on and on)— to get the word out and get sales.
Now that doesn’t sound all that sexy now does it? Hell no. Marketing sounds like a whole lot of work + a whole lot of money. And because of that, most entrepreneurs skip marketing altogether and then get pissed when the sales, clients, and opportunities don't show up.
The bottom line is that if you want a thriving business, you have to be intentional about marketing. It's the key to not only attracting your dream customers but to building a community of superfans that love to pay you for your work.
In today’s episode, marketing maven Asia David is hopping in the podcast guest chair to teach us the basics of marketing and how it doesn't have to be as complicated as most entrepreneurs think it is.

Starting a business is all fun and games until you realize how much it costs to make your business do what it do! There's equipment to buy, annual state fees to pay and inventory that needs to stay stocked. You have to pay employees, pay rent, basically pay everybody and their momma, forever and ever amen.
So how do you do it? How do you start a business or keep it running when the money just isn’t there?
You could take out loans, but not everyone wants that debt. You could try and get investors, but we all know how bogus venture capital is towards women and people of color. Your next best bet? Free money! Now, don't you go rolling your eyes at me. There is legit all kinds of free money floating around out there called grants. The only catch is that you have to apply for them. Yep, that's it and that's all!
Sound too good to be true? Well, listen to today's episode and let Brianna Hairlson change your mind. She opened up her dance studio in 2020, right at the height of the pandemic, and as fate would have it, signed a pretty lengthy lease. With a brand new studio and no in-person classes in sight; Brianna got down to business and started applying to ALL the grants. And guess how much free money she secured for her business? $120,000! Not only did she secure hella money, but she also received equipment, radio and tv commercials, and even a billboard in Times Square!
Brianna is a genius when it comes to finding + securing grants. So in today's episode, she's sharing how she did it and how you can too.

We're getting down to the nitty gritty in this episode- from money management to avoiding tax headaches and everything in between. If you're ready to leap into entrepreneurship, this episode is for you.

Just + little are two words that I can't stand. We tend to use them when we're used to dimming our light and downplaying just how dope we are. We say things like;"Oh yeah, I wrote a LITTLE book"
"I'm JUST a hairstylist"
"I have a LITTLE business"
"I'm JUST an artist"
Well, what if you started to say who you are + what you did with your whole chest? How would you show up if you own your work, your artistry, your business, your skills + your talents? What opportunities could you attract if you completely eliminated just and little out of your vocabulary?
That's what we're talking about in today's quick tip-- how to stop playing small and show up unapologetically even with the words we chose to speak about ourselves + the things we do.

How would you show up if you believed there were no limits? What would you launch? Who would you pitch? What could you create? Who could you help? Where would you live?
Recently a good friend of mine said:
“There are no limits. I belong everywhere.” 🙏🏽
And it absolutely sent a chill down my spine. Because what if she’s right? What if there are no limits except for the ones that we put on ourselves?
Well, that’s what we’re exploring in today’s episode. The idea that we get to do, say + be whoever and whatever we want, once we get out of our own damn way.

Has today been the most Monday-est Monday ever or what?! You probably did all the things + then some today. So now that the day is settling down, how do you feel? Overwhelmed? Depleted? Drained? I have a good guess why that is. You see, in the world of productivity, Monday is King. Everywhere you look, it’s-“wake up at 5 am + crush your to-do list on Monday and if you don’t your dreams won’t come true.” And being the #GoalGetter that you are, you try your damnest to rise to the occasion and crush your Monday, but it winds up crushing the hell outta you. So in today’s quick tip, I’m sharing a simple solution that’ll help you stop spreading yourself so thin + graciously rock the hell out of your to-do list not just on Mondays, but throughout the rest of the week.

Have you been playing small? Hiding? Dimming your light because you don’t want to ruffle anyone else’s feathers? How about shrinking, downplaying your wins, or fading into the background because you’re afraid people won’t like you if you show up as your whole, unapologetically radiant self?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you, my dear, are not alone.
For the last couple of years, I have been the queen of hiding and playing small. Why? Well because for a very long time, I’ve been a people pleaser and along the way, I’ve learned to dim my light, not celebrate my wins, and downplay who I am in order to make other people feel comfortable.
Well to hell with that all that nonsense! I’m not hiding a damn thang anymore for anybody. I’ve finally learned that my hiding serves no one, not even myself. So in today's episode, we’re talking about how to stop dimming our light + how to unapologetically show up as our whole selves and not feel bad about it anymore!

Have you ever heard the saying “everything is working out for your greatest good”? Do you believe it? Sometimes it’s hard to believe when life is absolutely life-ing, and you’re overwhelmed, stressed, and burned the hell out.
One way to start tapping into this belief is to document a win a day. It may sound silly at first; but this quick, little practice will help you stop focusing entirely on what’s not working and open your eyes to all the good that’s constantly surrounding and supporting you.

You’re doing the work. Working hard to perfect your craft. Waking up a little bit earlier and staying up way too late to cross things off your to-do list. You’ve sat through the webinars, paid for courses, and invested in coaches. Listened to podcasts, watched YouTube videos, and read all the books. All the pros say to show up, be consistent, and everything will magically fall into place. The sales, the clients, the subscribers, and the money will all start rolling in. But the truth of the matter is, that even after doing all the right things, your dreams just aren't popping off as you'd always envisioned. You're stuck in the land of the in-between. It's the space between where you are now and where you want to be. The in-between is where most goal-getters give up. So how do you stay motivated when you aren't seeing the results you've been working so hard for? In today's episode, we're talking about how to make peace with where you are now and how to keep chasing after your big goals and dreams.

"I already have enough. I should stop being so selfish and just be grateful for what I have.
Money is the root of evil.
More money. More problems.
I’m not good with money. The only way to make money is to work incredibly hard for it."
When I tell you I had a toxic relationship with money- I MEAN IT!I was in hella debt- (hello, credit cards and student loan debt🙄). I wasn’t making enough money in my full-time job, so I always had a couple of part-time gigs on the side just to make ends meet. And once I finally started making decent cash there was always an emergency lurking around the corner, so I was constantly draining my savings account.
Things got so bad I started to resent money.
It was never there for me when I needed it. It was always out of reach. The only way to get more of it was to work harder and sacrifice all of my free time working around the clock. And when I finally had it, I felt like I needed to hoard it because I never knew if or when it would come around again.
Living like this had your girl chronically stressed, sleep-deprived, anxious, embarrassed, and utterly exhausted.
And with all of that going on, one would think that I would do something to change my circumstances. Maybe go back to school, switch careers, or get a better-paying job. Nope! I did no such thing. Why? Well, because I was afraid to get to the bag!
I had so many toxic narratives swimming around in my head that kept me stuck in the struggle. I didn’t believe I could be a good Christian and want more money. I was afraid that having more money meant I was greedy and that I didn’t already appreciate God’s blessings.
There was this belief that I had to be a starving artist if I wanted to be taken seriously as an actress, so I did a lot of shows that paid little to nothing. It took me YEARS to finally wake up and decide that I was tired of living paycheck to paycheck, tired of being in debt, and tired of being stressed the hell out.
So I started doing the work to unlearn all those stories. Once I decided that money wasn't evil and that I could be a good person and still be financially savvy-- money became my bestie. I was no longer available to the struggle. Money was finally on my side and I started living my best damn life!
In today’s #BigLesson, we’re talking about money and how to heal our relationships with it, so we can finally get more of it and not feel one shred of guilt about it.
