  • Meet Melvin Beard a 30-year Golf Professional, Certified Level II Science in Motion Instructor, Certified Adaptive Golf Coach, and Certified Golf Mental Coach.

Oh, he’s also a four-handicap with eight hole in ones.

Evenmore, he also happens to be that guy who gave me unsolicited swing advice one Friday morning, spent 30 minutes working with me (because he’s that type of guy), and the same Coach Melvin I ended up hiring a few weeks later to help me achieve my goal of becoming a scratch golfer.

    In today’s episode, you’ll learn:

What Man Theory is - and why it’s ruining your performance. The power, importance, and need to prioritize the correct grip of the golf club. How to augment your practice to produce confidence and better results. How to use your entire body to facilitate more power and distance in your swing. Why the mental game matters when it comes to finding focus, flow, and attention to detail in each aspect of the game. What to focus on to be a significantly better putter And much more.

Get your pencils ready and start listening.

    More About Melvin

Melvin C.Beard lll is the CEO and Owner of A-Swing Golf Academy. He’s been a Golf Professional for over 30 years and holds numerous certifications and credentials, including Certified Level II Science in Motion Instructor, Certified Adaptive Golf Coach, and Certified Golf Mental Coach. He’s also a First Tee Youth Program Lead Coach.

    Key Takeaways:

Golf is predominantly a mental game, comprising 98% mental and 2% physical. Grip and equipment play a significant role in a golfer's success. 'Man theory' can hinder a golfer's performance and should be avoided. Golfers should focus on their own game rather than comparing themselves to others. There is no single solution to improving your golf game. Many golfers mimic what they see on TV without understanding the process. Having a short memory is vital for maintaining confidence in golf. Taking notes during lessons can significantly enhance learning and retention. Finding a coach who emphasizes mental and physical aspects of the game is important.

    Key Quotes:

"This game is 98% mental." “You gotta build from success that you have each single time for them to be able to kind of check it because soon as they're mental, as soon as it comes out their mouth, your ears are recording basically of I stink. I this - this happened.” "Pressure busts pipes, but pressure also makes diamonds." “If you can aim at something small, you can hit something small. I think that was the Little Red Book. And in that small tee going in the ground, you push it all the way down into the ground. So it's like you're hitting the ball off the ground, but you actually now you have a little target.” “As long as you can feel that target, you have to listen to your hands and understand your hands are the only thing that's grip that's a vice on the actual golf club. So if your grip is wrong your swing is wrong. It's that simple.”

    Key Points:

Self-diagnosis and troubleshooting are key skills for golfers. Understanding swing mechanics can lead to better performance. Empowerment comes from knowing how to control the ball. Intention in shot execution enhances performance. Mirror work and slow-motion drills are effective training methods.

    Key Quotes:

“He broke me down and where we noticed the biggest opportunity for growth, I'm not finishing swings, period. I'm still a little, know, handsy and armed, armsy, is that a word?” “Sometimes it's a nasty slice. Sometimes I hooked the ball completely. I miss both directions to be frank. What Melvin helped me understand was first and foremost, how to hit a draw, a fade, a cut.” “I have a mirror in my living room, I can pick up the club and do two swings in a minute or two, just whenever I find a moment. And that's going to go a long way to further helping reprogram this new swing that's going to allow me to swing with my entire body, get my hips through full rotation and make clean, consistent contact.”

  • Imagine yourself standing over the 18th hole, preparing to step up and sink a four-foot putt you’ve made dozens of times…

As you begin to sink into your alignment and posture, you begin thinking about missing the putt, how far back to go on your backswing, and how much strength to put behind the ball.

You also allow yourself to begin seeing and feeling what it will be like if you miss the putt. Your hands become tense, and your grip tightens, which leads to you taking a jab at the ball and missing the putt.

This miss strengthens your anxiety around short putts, making the next one feel even more challenging.

You know how to hit a putt.

If you don’t, there’s no shortage of videos online or coaches nearby who can help you.

Your yip problem isn’t a lack of knowledge problem.

The yips is a mindset problem.

The yips come from fear, mental overthinking, loss of trust in your abilities, and perfectionism.

The pressure to perform and the fear of embarrassment amplify the issue, leading to emotional distress and physical tension.

These factors create a cycle that is hard to break, where each mistake reinforces anxiety and self-doubt, making it increasingly difficult to play confidently and naturally.

The result: the game of golf yips your heart repeatedly.

In today’s episode, you’ll learn the underlying reason for a case of the yips, why self-diagnosing yourself as a golfer with the yips is so detrimental, and tactical steps you can take today to get out of your own way and play to your potential.

    Start listening.

    Also, here's a heads-up: I updated my Instagram tag to @thegolfhypnotherapist.

P.S. If you’re interested in learning more about how mindset coaching and hypnotherapy can help you get unstuck from the proverbial bunker of poor performance on the course and in your business, click here to schedule a coaching discovery call with me.

P.P.S. Here’s the article I references detailing more about how to overcome the problem-who-must-not-be-named.

    Key Points:

The act of labeling oneself as having the Yips can be counterproductive. Fear is a significant underlying factor in the Yips. Self-diagnosis can lead to a negative identity and performance spiral. Focusing on process rather than results can alleviate anxiety. Mindfulness and deep breathing are essential for managing tension. Simplifying techniques can help reduce overthinking and improve performance. Visualization and mental imagery can enhance confidence and execution. Asking for help can lead to faster improvement and resolution of issues. Practicing specific skills can desensitize fear and build confidence. Emotional resilience is crucial for overcoming performance anxiety.

    Key Quotes:

“The yips are caused by a combination of mental overthinking, fear, and emotional distress, which promote anxiety and tension, the two enemies of a fluid, consistent swing.” “The most detrimental mistake you can make when attempting to overcome your yip problem is labeling a recent mistake or period of poor performance as a case of the yips.” “Since the yips are often rooted in fear, anxiety, overthinking, and physical tension, the goal is to address both the mental and physical aspects of the problem.” “The yips is a mindset problem.” “The yips come from fear, mental overthinking, loss of trust in your abilities, and perfectionism. The pressure to perform and the fear of embarrassment amplify the issue, leading to emotional distress and physical tension.”

  • In today’s episode, I’ll recap…

A moment of trusting my instinct to change clubs - and it paying off big time. Feeling distracted, overwhelmed, and unfocused during a round. How getting comfortable on the course has not prepared me for my next goal - and what I will do about it. Finding another birdie in an otherwise tough day of scoring (I forgot to mention I shot a 98 that round). Making silly mistakes and skipping steps in my preparation process because I was…having too much fun?

  • In April 2024, I shot a 65 on nine holes.

And, to be honest, it was likely closer to a true 75 with the amount of OB and mulligans present.

In October, I broke 90 for the first time.

In today’s episode, I’m recapping this journey, specifically, what I’ve learned and what has helped me the most in shaving a significant number of strokes off of my rounds.

I’ll package these learning lessons into stories and also help you better understand how what has helped me play better golf faster can help you not only do the same, but achieve any and every goal you have.

    Key Points:

Progress in golf requires clarity on ultimate goals. Short-term goals help maintain focus and motivation. Asking for help can significantly accelerate improvement. Emotional regulation is crucial for performance. Curiosity can replace frustration in learning. Training should be specific to the demands of golf. Falling in love with the process is essential for long-term success. Golf serves as a mirror for personal development. Investing in oneself is key to achieving goals. The journey of improvement is as valuable as the outcome.

    Key Quotes:

“Perhaps the most important aspect of my journey thus far has been my ability to have a collection of practices that allows me to regulate my emotional state.” “Any time we start thinking beyond three months, especially six months, it's quite challenging to maintain the level of commitment and focus we need to consistently perform and execute at our best.” “If I had no ability to regulate my emotions, to diffuse that emotion, remember, the definition of emotion is energy in motion. I would have remained frustrated, tense, tight, and knowing myself likely contemplated just stopping playing or not setting nearly as ambitious goals as I have currently set.”

How can you view this through a lens of non-judgmental curiosity and get really curious as to why? Was the effort there? Did you take aligned, effective action steps? Did you ignore some of the harder, uncomfortable aspects of the game that you need to work on?”

Reflection after rounds is crucial for improvement. Emotions play a significant role in golf performance. Grit and persistence can help golfers recover from poor rounds. Key Quotes:

"Golf is a beautiful, powerful personal development tool." “Experience is so crucial in this game because golf's kind of a bizarre activity with all the things that can take place on the course and you just have to be accepting and prepared for all of that.” "Incremental progress is the key to golf." “You know, sometimes you need to take a big step backwards, be like, you know, no matter what happens here, things are going to be okay. I'm going to go home. I think about my wife and kids, like they'll won't care that much in either direction.” "You can’t expect to play this game and not have emotions." “Yeah, information, yeah, information isn't the issue anymore. Yeah, it's a mindset problem. It's a habit problem, discipline.”

    Key Points:

I brought a good attitude and plenty of snacks. The automaticity in my swing just clicked. I hit 10 fairways and was lethal off the tee. The mud made it difficult to score well. I played 18 holes in three hours, it was incredible. I shot an 87, my new low round to date. I need to repeat this performance in a competitive setting. The mental game is crucial for golf success. I have been dreaming about breaking 90 for months. Future goals include tournament golf and fatherhood.

    Key Quotes:

“There's no need for this. You should not be topping balls or chunking shots. You know what to do. Lock it up and lock it in.” “I just fucking striped my nine. My nine carried at least 165, which is just new for me. Ended up making a really good putt to save bogey there.” “So I put a lot of time in with Melvin and on my own dialing in my swing with the five wood, three wood and the driver and even some of my long irons as well. So this was the best off the tee box I had done. But the problem for me was that second shot.”

    Quotes and Questions Shared:

It’s important to know where you’re going than to get there quickly. Do not mistake activity for achievement. Don’t be intimidated by what you don’t know. That can be your greatest strength and ensure that you do things differently from everyone else. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with others. Asking for help accelerates results. Action alleviates anxiety. Information alone isn’t enough. You still have to do the work. The results you are looking for are in the work you are avoiding You can’t change unless you change If you want what the five percent have you must be willing to do what the 95 percent are not. You need to know what you’re willing to give up (and what you’re not). What’re the best doing that you’re not? What’re the best NOT doing that you are? What’s your ‘why’?

    Key Points:

It's crucial to know where you're going rather than rushing to get there. Constant action can lead to counterproductive results. Embrace what you don't know as a strength. Collaboration can lead to greater success than going alone. Asking for help is not a weakness; it accelerates results. Action is a powerful antidote to anxiety. Information alone won't lead to change; action is necessary. The results you seek often lie in the work you avoid. Personal change is essential for achieving different results. Understanding what you're willing to sacrifice is key to reaching your goals. Learn from the best in your field to improve your own performance. Knowing your 'why' is vital for motivation and perseverance.

    Key Quotes:

“Don't be intimidated by what you don't know. See this lack of knowledge as an opportunity and a sign to get curious. Leverage this naivety as one of your greatest strengths to make sure that you do things differently.” “The results you are looking for lie in the work you are avoiding.” “What are the best of the best in your industry not doing that you are equally important?” “And that allowed me to start making some massive breakthroughs in my journey of introspection, reflection and awareness, learning more about who I am.” “And I find it creates an immense amount of clarity and peace, ultimately allowing you to feel and experience a sense of freedom and a surge in energy when you're incredibly clear on what you are and are not willing to give up to achieve a goal.”

An on-par round, yet, feeling dissatisfied. A productive lesson that helped a few aspects of my swing finally click into a place of consistency. The priority and work I’m focused on away from the course to help me play to my potential. The construction of my at-home practice domain (finally) and how I plan to use it moving forward. My upcoming opportunities to break 90 before November 13.

Physical preparation is crucial for consistent performance. Quality practice is more important than quantity. Coaching can provide valuable insights and adjustments. Understanding your body alignment is essential for better shots. Emotional management is part of the game. Set warmup routines can enhance performance. There are always opportunities for improvement, even in the off-season.

    Key Quotes:

“If I'm being candid, when I moved to chipping and putting, there was a lack of a plan. And as I'm saying this out loud, I know it's silly, it's foolish. I need to do a better job cultivating my set warmup routine on and around the green.” “I've really focused on allowing my mind to naturally drift during some of these breath holds and having an anchor to come back to, to ground me in the present moment. And the goal here is to allow this to become a transferable skill to the golf course as well.” “Knowing these rounds are going to likely be a little bit longer. There's a creation of so much more downtime, opportunity for distraction.” “I was quite disappointed with the 45.”

  • Buckle up.

You’re about to enter into the ether of a zen-like, hypnotic flow conversation with a +2 handicap index golfer who recently won his club tournament - at 54 years of age.

Meet Jesse Perryman - a competitive amateur golfer, father of five, with a deep-rooted fascination of psychology (alongside a degree in it) and the host of the Flaghunters Golf Podcast.

He’s been golfing for over 40 years, including three years as a Division I golfer, alongside multiple tournament trophies.

Jesse has an eerily similar and unique view about harnessing the power of your subconscious mind to play your best golf.

    In today’s episode, you’ll learn:

The importance of setting intentions before a round, being present in the moment, and getting out of your comfort zone. The need to embrace nerves and doubts as part of the human experience and use them as a guide for growth. The concept of the pie chart, which includes technical skills, physical well-being, and the mental game as key components of improvement. Why ever golfer - no matter their handicap - should enter tournaments as soon as possible. How - and why - to practice passionate acceptance about their natural fear and nervousness on the course. The importance of accepting where you are in your golf game to facilitate growth.

Get your pencils ready and start listening.

P.S. Please excuse the audio on my end - I lost my voice that week and barely held it together for the conversation.

Conquering Self-Sabotage on the Golf Course with Paul Salter Achieving Flow State in Golf and Life with Paul Salter

    Key Takeaways:

Setting intentions before a round can help golfers relax and alleviate stress. Being present in the moment is crucial for optimal performance on the golf course. Getting out of your comfort zone, such as playing in tournaments, can lead to significant growth and improvement. Embracing nerves and doubts is part of the human experience and can serve as a guide for progress. The pie chart concept highlights the importance of technical skills, physical well-being, and the mental game in golf improvement. Accept fear and nervousness as part of the game and embrace the energy in your body. Simulate tournament conditions in practice to prepare for competitive rounds. Play the golf course in your mind to develop the right mindset for playing your best. Meditation can help cultivate mental resilience and the ability to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations. Accept where you are in your golf game to facilitate growth and improvement.

    Key Quotes:

"You need to be able to remember it under duress or if you're starting to go the other way, you're going to play well because I can guarantee your listeners that listen to this podcast, Paul, that if they do that, they will supersede their expectations during the course of the round." "When you can, when you start whatever that practice is, whether it's meditation, whether it's yoga, whether it's breath work, whatever it is, chanting, I don't care. Scottie Shephler's single greatest asset he has in his game right now is his ability to be in the present moment." "Your pie chart is in motion. It's in motion. You have the basics. Hey man, I want you to get up and work out every day or get some movement in your body. That's going to be huge because a stiff golf swing is not going to lend itself to fluidity of mind." "Whether you make this or you miss it, you're not going to die. So just get up and hit the damn thing." "What you resist persists." "Use one ball. Don't use three balls. Don't use a sleeve. Just use one ball."

  • In today’s episode, I’ll recap…

The dark recesses of the mind I hung out in after a frustrating start to my opening nine - and what happened after I got out of there. Putting like a professional only to get eaten alive by the same greens the next day. The pressures and challenges from a feisty group behind us and a slower-than-usual pace of play - and what I learned. A tap-in birder after a blind shot that kicked-off an impressive run to finish the round. The physical toll so many practice shots took on my hands and body this week. Where I stand with 7.5 weeks to go…

    Key Points:

The emotional journey of a golfer can be intense. Swing lessons can lead to significant changes in performance. Consistent practice is key to improvement. Setting expectations can create pressure but also motivation. Mental resilience is crucial during challenging rounds. Physical preparation impacts performance on the course. Learning from each round is essential for growth. Self-awareness helps in managing emotions during play. Gratitude for the game enhances the overall experience. Enjoying the process is as important as achieving goals.

    Key Quotes:

“In fact, on my left index finger, that top portion of my digit, it's not numb, but you know that feeling when your foot or your hand falls asleep? Like there's just minimal sensation there.” “So we finish, bogey, bogey, bogey, bogey, bogey. So does that five bogeys in a row. We card a 48 on the front.” “When we're not playing well, it's such like an unconscious program response to start putting blame elsewhere, like fuck the foursome in front of us. So those guys behind us are jerks, they're assholes, how dare they hit into us?”

  • Aside from the comedy you gain watching your buddy repeatedly shank his tee shot into the water (he’ll eventually get it, right!?), you and I can both learn a lot about the art of comedy when it comes to improving our golf game.

Specifically, from the improv framework, “yes, and,” which fosters acceptance, creativity, open-mindedness, collaboration, and focus.

In today’s episode, you’ll learn how and why you should adapt the “yes, and” framework on the golf course to find more resiliency, acceptance, presence, and enjoyment during your rounds.

The Art and Science of Acceptance (Newsletter)

    Key Points:

The 'Yes, And' framework fosters creativity and acceptance. Acceptance is crucial in both comedy and golf. Building off mistakes can lead to better outcomes. Collaboration with the course enhances performance. Staying present allows for better focus and execution. Every shot is an opportunity to reset and refocus. Mistakes are learning opportunities, not failures. A positive mindset can change the course of a game. Emotional resilience is key to playing well. Enjoying the game is as important as performance.

    Key Quotes:

“I want to discuss how yes and the framework that allows creativity, novelty, excitement and damn good humor to flourish in the comedic realm. The same framework can allow you to infuse a sense of passionate acceptance and presence in the moment after hitting a poor shot or making a mistake to ultimately help prepare yourself.” “There's a deep, strong element of acceptance. This means agreeing with whatever premise or scenario is presented. And again, this might be by another comedian, an audience member, or just the situation you and that comedian are building off of. The idea here is to embrace whatever comes up instead of rejecting or blocking it.” “You are going to hit so many great shots in your life that still don't land or go where you intended. It might be a bad bounce. It might lead to an unfortunate lie. You have to remain present, accepting, and adaptable.”

The long-term benefit one of my clients has experienced since our initial call in early 2024 (his handicap has dropped from 5.7 to 2.1 this year) Shooting my lowest score of the year… …and having the most number of putts during the round What continues to sabotage my score and hold me back from breaking 90 What I’m specifically working on this week Why I feel this coming weekend is the round I break 90…

    Start listening.

P.S. If you’re interested in learning more about how mindset coaching and hypnotherapy can help you get unstuck from the proverbial bunker of poor performance on the course and in your business, click here to schedule a coaching discovery call with me.

    Key Points:

Mindset coaching can lead to significant improvements in performance. Staying present and aware is crucial for making better decisions on the course. Practicing visualization techniques can enhance focus and confidence. Having a solid warmup routine is essential for optimal performance. It's important to analyze both successes and failures to learn and grow. Adjusting your grip can impact your putting performance significantly. Consistency in practice leads to better results over time. Setting realistic goals helps maintain motivation and focus. Embracing the process is key to enjoying the game of golf.

    Key Quotes:

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with others.” “Could this be the weekend I keep the ball in bounds, putt confidently, take it one shot at a time, shot at a time, emotionally reset, refocus and regroup between every hole and play to my potential? Could this be the defining weekend where I break 90, I go low, I rack up five pars in one string of nine holes? I don't know, stay tuned.” “We're out of bounds. Are you starting to notice the theme here? We're out of bounds again on 15. We end up with a double bogey on five, bringing us to the par three, 16. Boom, we hit the green in regulation again. This is a big talking point of today's episode.” “I feel like I took three steps back in my swing. I felt like I couldn't hit the golf ball to save my life. I'm inconsistent, I'm overthinking. I wanna just regress back to what worked for me three days ago that I felt so confident about. And now I'm inviting in all of these swing thoughts.”

  • Meet Chris Ardolina - a multi-award-winning teaching professional at Cove Cay Golf Club in Clearwater, Florida.

Chris became a scratch golfer at - wait for it - the age of 14. After deciding not to pursue professional golf, he decided to give teaching a go. He immediately fell in love with it and the rest is history.

    In today’s episode, you’ll learn:

How to identify the root cause of your struggles AND develop an effective practice plan to overcome them. How to infuse both intention and purpose into your practice sessions to accelerate results. How to approach the mental and physical aspects of your warm-up and what differes compared to when you practice. The three-step accelerated improvement framework Chris uses with all of his clients to meet them where they’re at and get them to where they want to be - fast. Plus, Chris shared the top priority to focus on when you’re trying to break 90, break 80, and shoot scratch.

Get your pencils ready and start listening.

    More About Chris

Chris grew up in central New Jersey and started playing golf at the age of 12. By age 14, he started shooting "par" at his local public course and earned recognition as one of the top junior golfers in the area. Throughout high school, Chris played 4 years of varsity golf, and his 9-hole score of 3 under par 33 remains tied for the lowest in school history.

Chris's pursuit of a golf-focused career led him to Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina where he majored in Business Administration with a concentration in Professional Golf Management. After graduating, he embarked on a journey with the Jim McLean Golf Schools in Miami, Florida, where his passion for teaching blossomed.

He now owns and operates the Chris Ardolina Golf Academy out of Cove Cay Golf Club located in Clearwater, Florida.

Beyond golf, Chris finds joy in playing ice hockey, tennis, yoga and biking along the scenic Tampa/Clearwater trails.

    Key Takeaways:

Identify the root causes of your struggles in golf to develop effective practice plans. Practice with intention and purpose, starting with small drills and gradually progressing to more challenging exercises. Create a focused warm-up routine to bring confidence and clarity to the first tee. Follow a three-step process for improvement: understand the current state, identify areas for improvement, and implement changes. As you progress in golf, shift your focus to more specific aspects of the game. Consistency is key for golfers looking to break 100. Eliminating big numbers and focusing on reducing penalty shots can lead to significant improvement. To break 90, golfers should work on their approach shots and aim for consistent distance control. Being able to get close to the green and give themselves a chance to make par or bogey is crucial. Breaking 80 requires hitting more greens and having a solid short game. Golfers should aim to make more pars and reduce the number of putts. Becoming a scratch golfer involves paying attention to the details and making good decisions on the course. Strategy and course management become more important at this level. Playing in tournaments requires practicing under pressure and being familiar with the rules. Many golfers struggle in tournaments because they are not used to playing with the same level of pressure and adherence to rules.

    Key Quotes:

"You can go from hip high to shoulder to full swing all within that singular practice session" "I want you to take one to two practice swings for every ball that you hit" "The biggest thing that can help them create consistency and help them lose less golf balls or take less penalty shots." "Breaking 90 comes down to a lot of approach shots and consistent distance control." "To break 80, you need to hit more greens and have a solid short game."

Personal experiences and events off the golf course can impact performance on the golf course. Improving swing mechanics, such as shortening the backswing, can lead to better ball striking. Patience, focus, and managing pressure are important aspects of the mental game in golf. Consistent practice and working on specific areas, like the short game and putting, can lead to improvement. Sharing progress and experiences with others can provide accountability and motivation.

    Key Quotes:

“I shot a 54 in the back, a 105 for the day, a couple penalties on the back, hitting out of bounds, a couple lost balls that I know didn't go in the water. We just couldn't find them. So we had to take the stroke and play onward. 19 putts on the back nine, 35 putts total. And that's where we were today. And to be frank, a lot of missed opportunity.” “You're not getting the club face all the way close and around. This is why you're pushing or slicing and you're not able to consistently hit well off the tee box. So really the intention today was significantly shortening my backswing.” “There’s a lot of misunderstanding about the type of coaching I do and where and how I use hypnosis to help competitive golfers, amateur golfers play their best golf. A lot of what we work on are elements taking place away from the course because no matter how hard you try or you want to, you can't separate the golfer.” “They're likely plaguing you and your professional, your personal and your romantic lives as well. And if we flip that too, if you have a lot going on in your personal life, you may struggle with patience, focus, concentration, confidence on the course as well.”

  • Imagine starting your round with a triple bogey…

In most cases, letting this poor start set the tone for the day is easy, ultimately leading to a poor round and less-than-enjoyable experience.

But what if you could weather the tough start and go on to play one of the best rounds of your life?

Acceptance empowers you to do just that.

Acceptance in this scenario means acknowledging the rough start without letting it dictate the rest of your round. It allows you to reset your mindset, focus on one shot at a time, and potentially recover with better play on subsequent holes.

In today’s episode, you’ll learn more about the power of acceptance on the golf course, specifically, how cultivating an acceptance practice can accelerate results and improve your performance.

I’ll discuss acceptance and how it differs from avoidance, share several direct benefits of practicing acceptance on the course, dig into what the research says about acceptance and high performance, and also discuss how to begin practicing acceptance on and off the course.

    Key Points:

Acceptance is the practice of acknowledging and allowing thoughts, feelings, or outcomes without resisting or trying to change them. Acceptance helps golfers stay calm, focused, and resilient, regardless of the outcome. Practicing acceptance reduces stress, improves mental resilience, and increases confidence. Acceptance enhances enjoyment of the game and allows golfers to play more freely and instinctively. Practical tips for applying acceptance include using breathwork, focusing on one shot at a time, and maintaining positive self-talk.

    Key Quotes:

“Acceptance is the mental practice of acknowledging and embracing each moment of your round without judgment or resistance, allowing you to stay calm, focused, and resilient regardless of outcomes.” "It is a principle, a concept that will absolutely accelerate your progress to shooting lower scores." "Acceptance in this scenario means acknowledging the rough start, the poor hold, the mistake, the poor outcome without letting it dictate the remainder of your round." "Acceptance doesn't mean passivity or timidness. It's about staying mentally engaged and confident in your ability to recover and perform regardless of what the game, the round, the hole throws at you."

  • In today’s episode, I’ll recap…

Playing my first round with my new clubs (did they fix everything?). Playing 18 on back-to-back days (and my driver forgot to show up). Hitting a new low number of putts. Looking hard to find the (many) positives after each round. Where I’m spending time away from the course getting better this week.

P.P.S. The podcast episodes I mentioned:

Paul Salter is On the Mark with Mark Immelman Paul Salter talks hypnotherapy with Josh Nichols Paul Salter on the Fore Dudes One Cart Podcast

    Key Points:

Consistent practice and repetition with new clubs can lead to improvements in iron play Struggles with the driver and three wood can impact confidence and overall performance Visualization and mental preparation are important aspects of the game Acknowledging and celebrating progress, even if it doesn't meet expectations, is crucial for motivation and commitment

    Key Quotes:

"Knuckles down, knuckles down, knuckles down." "The way you respond to a bad start is you come back with vengeance with another par." "I had one, two, three, four, five, six bogeys and one par." “I grinded out those bogeys. I did not hit the ball well today. I felt inept off the tee box. And when I sat down to total up my 18, I was pleasantly surprised to see a 98 and to see a 48.” “So there's an honest look, a lot of wins, a lot of things to work on, some highs and lows, but at the core, we're moving in the right direction. And we have more than two months, 15 plus rounds or so to shoot sub 90.”
