In the 5th episode of THE RUN LAB, the host Brendon Ip, a Registered Physiotherapist based in Vancouver, British Columbia details his journey in running including the time he stepped away from the sport completely.
In this episode, we find out why it's so easy to start something but so difficult to stick with it. Brendon shares about how a busy schedule initially got in the way of his love of running, the negative consequences and how he bounced back and rededicated himself to the sport. We learn that the key to finding consistency is to recognize a deeper drive and motivation beyond the superficial reasons why we get started in the first place.
"We all have our reasons for getting into running or for getting more exercise but I encourage you all to sit down and think about your choice of exercise – whether it’s running, going to the gym or taking a class. Think about what you get out of it. What it is that you love about it. You already know why you got into it, you just have to find out why you should stay. "

In the 4th episode of THE RUN LAB, host Brendon Ip, a Registered Physiotherapist based in Vancouver, British Columbia starts a dialogue and challenges the reasoning behind some common practices when in the midst of training for a race.
In this episode, we find out that there are inherently different risks associated with each phase of running whether it is during training, during the run or in the preparation leading up to race day. We also learn of the commonly overlooked areas that could greatly improve any runner's pursuit of improvement. Brendon also shares a little bit about some of his experiences with injuries and how he found the solution to getting back to doing what he loves.

Along the way, Brendon shares some of the experiences he has had which contributed to his love of the sport and he highlights the 5 principles that help build a healthy and longterm approach to running, 1) Setting goals and defining purpose. 2) Making it EASY, 3) Enjoying the little moments, 4) Celebrating achievements and 5) Consistency.
"Learn to live for the moments – not the events and activities of your life but for the breaks in between. Learn to love the process of pushing yourself, of hearing the rhythmic pace of your feet striking the asphalt or gasping for air as you race to make a pedestrian light. Learn to love solitude and the last rays of sun as it sets behind the trees or the smile your partner gives you as you both jog along at whatever speed your legs want to. Just learn to love being in the present."
