  • In 2026, no one needs to hire a running coach to write a training plan.

    So the deeper question is, how does the work of a human running coach go beyond what a large language model can iterate?  What is the intrinsic human value of what I do to help runners around the world?

I particularly love the PR Training labs which help me build race plans.  So many running podcasts are filled with non-pertinent chatter.  Claire is succinct and provided tons of helpful content.  When she interviews guests, she asks excellent questions and chisels home the “meat” (all while being plant-based!! 😜).     1.  What is your goal?

    2.  How long have you been running regularly?

    3.  Do you have any current or recurring injuries?  

    4.  What are your RECENT (past 6-12 months) race times and distances?  If you have not raced recently, but have in the past, please estimate your race fitness.  If you have never raced, or not in a very long time, please estimate how fast you could run 1 mile (1.6km) as fast as possible.

    5.  How many miles or kilometers per week do you typically run (do not include race weeks or taper weeks)?

    6.  What is the highest amount of weekly mileage you've ever run and how long ago was that?

    7.  How long is your average/most recent long run?

    8.  What pace would you say is a very easy effort, relaxed pace for an average run?  This is a pace so slow that you could talk the entire time almost as easily as walking.

    9. When do you want to run and rest?

    10. What are your favorite and least favorite  kinds of running workouts?

    11.  Do you strength train and/or cross train?

    12. What do you struggle with?

    I found The Planted Runner blog and podcast when I was in the midst of training for my first half marathon this past spring. Coach Claire’s information on a variety of running topics have really helped as a beginner; I especially love the mental strength minute segment! I never thought that running would be a part of my life, but I started a running habit in order to combat postpartum depression. I’m so thankful to have this podcast as a resource so that I can continue to train in an intelligent way, with a lower chance of injury. In the fall, I am planning to run my second half marathon. I am so excited to start my Half Marathon training plan from The Planted Runner in a few weeks. 😁

    I love this podcast!  I started listening when I was new to running (been eating a plant based diet for much longer than I’ve been running) and I always find it very interesting!  Coach Claire has a very good voice and precise way of speaking and conveying information!  I just wish the episodes were longer so they didn’t stop halfway through my runs!

    Danny spent his first four decades avoiding cardio (or any sport for that matter), before hitting a mid-life crisis. After dropping 20 kg, a friend promptly scammed him into running a full marathon as his first-ever race. Plot twist: the friend Did Not Start (DNS) due to injury, leaving him to suffer the 42.2 Km alone. He's been addicted ever since. Now, he's obsessed with the mental grit of the sport and can be found @zidaniey when not busy drenching his kit in Singapore's humidity while battling his shoe-shopping addiction. 


    Danny is training for both Sydney and Chicago this fall and wants to be sure he's scheduled his tune-up races just right.


    We have runners from all over the world on the team and this was such a fun conversation I know you’ll enjoy.

    Yes, I am one of those who followed Claire over from a previous podcast.  Each podcast is like a 5k run; just long enough and packs plenty of informations.  Claire manages to tackle plenty of different topics others rarely discuss.  Other times she provides fresh reminders to keep sharp.  Then there are the eye opening episodes.

    Her expertise and weekly advice has helped my running game.  I’m one of those who listens during the workday and not so much while running.  What I also enjoy about the podcast is any episode is easy to review.  I’m okay there are few interviews  Keep up the great work!

    I have been running for 24 years, but only 3+ as a plant-based runner.  I love the info that Coach Claire provides especially the mental strength techniques.  I recently got certified as an RRCA Level 1 coach, but have been a little time in taking steps to begin coaching professionally.  I think being coached is probably the first step and Coach Claire seems like the best fit for me!

    4.  What are your RECENT (past 6-12 months) race times and distances?  If you have not raced recently, but have in the past, please estimate your race fitness.  If you have never raced, or not in a very long time, please estimate how fast you could run 1 mile (1.6km) as fast as possible.

    5.  How many miles or kilometers per week do you typically run (do not include race weeks or taper weeks)?

    6.  What is the highest amount of weekly mileage you've ever run and how long ago was that?

    7.  How long is your average/most recent long run?

    8.  What pace would you say is a very easy effort, relaxed pace for an average run?  This is a pace so slow that you could talk the entire time almost as easily as walking.

    9. When do you want to run and rest?

    10. What are your favorite and least favorite  kinds of running workouts?

    11.  Do you strength train and/or cross train?

    12. What do you struggle with?

    Love this podcast and all the topics! Been listening for probably 2 years now and Claire is an amazing host. I appreciate how she keeps episodes concise with the occasional longer episode with a guest. As a vegan, I totally dig the plant-based info, but that is not the basis of most episodes–running is.  All the episodes I’ve listened to are encouraging and so positive.
