Petrina Tinslay
Welcome back to season two of The Photorian. My first guest in the new season is the brilliant Petrina Tinslay. I first became aware of Petrina back in 90's whilst I was working for Marie Claire. The stunning images that she was producing with Donna Hay were to completely change food photography and propel Petrina to being one of the most in demand photographers of her generation. A huge thank you to Petrina for taking the time to chat with me about her career and I hope you will enjoy her story.

John Gollings
I’m thrilled to have the master Australian photographer John Gollings on the show. Part of the inspiration for The Photorian was to talk with the most important and respected photographers and John has been a mentor and inspiration for my entire career.
John’s global reputation as one of the most outstanding photographers Australia has ever produced and his lifelong love of photography, combined with his ability to find inspiration in both his personal and commissioned works.
John Gollings made his first photographs and received darkroom tuition at age eleven; he later studied Arts/Architecture at Melbourne University, supporting himself through architectural and wedding photography.
In 1967 he received private tuition from Ansel Adams in his darkroom at Carmel, California. He has taught the use of large format cameras, and lectured on architecture and advertising photography at Prahran College, Melbourne and Sydney universities and the Philip Institute, amongst others. Recently he has focused on longer-term projects including books, exhibitions and fine prints.
John Gollings specializes in the documentation of cities, old and new, a lot of it from the air. He has had a particular interest in the cyclic fires and floods, which characterize the Australian landscape. These have been documented with aerial photography.

This weeks guest on The Photorian is Ben Watts.
Ben Watts was born In London, England in 1967 to a musical father and a costume designing mother. From an early age Ben's fascination with camera’s led to a career as one of the most sought after fashion and portrait photographers. Ben and I had a really interesting and insightful discussion about Ben's career and his love of photography.

Born in Adelaide Australia, portrait photographer Ben Baker travelled extensively as a child through the remote areas of the Northern Territory. Traveling with his father David Baker, who was working with indigenous communities as a mediator.
These early experiences defined Ben’s ability to communicate and observe different cultures that would be the foundation for his later work as a portrait photographer.
After finding his way to New York, Ben had an opportunity to assist Annie Leibovitz. This opened the door to work with legendary photographers Mary Ellen Mark, Harry Benson and Mark Seliger on projects for Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, Time, and Life magazines.
Ben’s portrait career began with assignments for New York Magazine, Newsweek, Esquire and Time magazine.
Ben has photographed some of the most prominent leaders in politics, business and the media. Notable portrait sittings of President’s Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Bill Clinton and George Bush. Also First Lady Michelle Obama, Warren Buffett, Oprah Winfrey, Lady Gaga, Ralph Lauren, Jay -Z, and Rupert Murdoch.
His work has been collected by the National Portrait Gallery of Australia and the African American Museum of History and Culture in Washington DC. Awards include the American Photography collections, New York Press club and Photo District News.

Episode .2 Isamu Sawa.
Born in Japan and raised in Australia, Isamu Sawa has had a successful career in photography for more than 25 years. As one of Australia’s leading commercial photographers, His clients include, Mercedes Benz, Mazda, Holden, Domaine Chandon and Penfolds. His editorial work has also featured in Vogue, GQ and a long list of leading Australasian publications. Isamu is in demand for both his still life and portraits sittings. Subjects include Jean Paul Gaultier, Geoffrey Rush and Tour de France winning cyclist Cadel Evans.
Isamu has exhibited photographic works starting with his late father, Peter Sawa, (Two Generations – Two Views in 1999); Various group shows at in 2013 and 2014); Leading up to his first his first solo show, Without Water in (2015); followed more recently with ‘REMNANT’ in (2019).

The Toronto based Aussie photographer Sandy Nicholson is my first guest on The Photorian. I’m thrilled to have a chat with Sandy about all things pro photography.
Sandy started his career in the 1990s shooting photo essays for Rolling Stone, Vogue and leading Australian publications. Sandy is an alum of John Gollings Clifton Street studio that was a major creative hub in Melbourne in the 1990’s.
Sandy's photographs have been exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery, London, The World Expo in Lisbon and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney. His solo exhibitions, Lifts, Suburban Fetish and 2nd, have shown in Australia, the UK, Canada and Croatia.
Sandy has won a World Press Photo award, An Applied Arts award for the Advertising and Directors Club of Canada and several other prestigious awards recognizing his photographic excellence.
