  • We're back! For our 95th episode, we bring you a collection of soundtrack cuts from 1995. It was the height of the 90s, when 80s pop stars showed up in the most random movies, fledgling rock bands popped up on teen cult classics, and also Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh Eagles teamed up with Lita Ford to do the theme song for a RoboCop TV series. 1995 was definitely a mood...

Also appearing in this episode: Tom Jones covering Lenny Kravitz for the Jerky Boys movie, The Proclaimers covering The Everly Brothers' "Bye Bye Love" for the movie Bye Bye Love, we get a few cuts from Green Day, Wax, and Salt N' Pepa. Also Bryan Adams performs the drippiest, horniest song ever written...

Ladies and gentlemen, this is 1995.

  • Hello all you OST Party fans out there in radioland! Are you ready to rock?!

On this episode we're looking at the 1994 comedy AIRHEADS! Adam Sandler, Steve Buscemi and OST Party fave Brendan Fraser are The Lone Rangers, a down and out LA rock trio. In a last ditch effort to land a record deal, they take a radio station hostage and demand to have their music heard.

The movie may be a grim foreshadowing of FM rock radio's future, but the movie's a hell of a lot of fun. And the soundtrack is pretty neat too. We get a slammin' opening credits song from Motorhead and Ice T, a weird Smiths cover from Anthrax, an even weirder Van Halen cover from Four Non Blondes, and naturally, the #1 hit single from the movie's own Lone Rangers! So strap yourselves in and get ready to rock!

  • We're ringing in the new year with a film we've been wanting to cover for a long time. It's the 1978 cult film FM, about a Los Angeles radio station fighting back against The Man with some of the coolest rock jams of the 70s.

Or at least, that's what the movie is supposed to be about. Mostly it's an excuse for Martin Mull to ham things up while they shoot a Linda Ronstadt concert. And maybe we'll get celebrity cameos from Tom Petty and REO Speedwagon along the way. It's barely a movie, and not even a good one at that.

Really though, FM is more famous for its soundtrack album, which is absolutely STACKED with some of the top rock hits of the era. We get two cuts from Steely Dan, including that excellent title track, as well as songs from Bob Seger, Boston, Foreigner, Boz Scaggs, and a whooole lot more! So put on your denim jackets and let's rock & roll!

  • We may have missed Halloween, but so what? On this episode we take you back to sunny Los Angeles for a look at the soundtrack to 1992's Buffy The Vampire Slayer, the feature film blueprint for one of the most iconic TV series of the 90s.

This soundtrack is pretty typical of what you'd find on a movie soundtrack in 1992. You've got the requisite covers from artists like Divinyls and Mary's Danish, the sensitive guy rock from Matthew Sweet and Toad the Wet Sprocket, The Cult and Ozzy Osbourne giving us a couple of random metal tracks, and hey why not, have some C+C Music Factory!

So throw on your leather jackets and sharpen your stakes, because it's time for some Buffy!

That's right, OST Party mainstays Oingo Boingo are back for another college comedy. (Man, we just can't let Teen Wolf Too go, huh?) Also on this soundtrack we get a title track from Jude Cole, the requisite Aretha Franklin gag, and a hair metal jam from none other than Michael Bolton!

  • This week we mourn the passing of the incomparable Paul Reubens. His most famous creation, Pee-wee Herman, taught kids of all stripes that there's beauty in the weird and kitschy parts of the world, and that just because we grow up doesn't mean we have to stop being silly.

And throughout his career, Reubens incorporated lots of music into the Pee-wee persona. So on this episode we'll take you through the musical history of Pee-wee Herman. We'll start with his 1981 stage show, dig into his three feature films, and highlight some of the strange places Pee-wee has popped up along the way. Who knows, we might even make a pit stop at the Alamo!

  • Greetings bluntskulls! On this episode we celebrate the 30th anniversary of Coneheads! Wayne's World proved there was a market for SNL comedies in the 90s, so naturally here's a movie based on the Coneheads, space aliens from the planet Remulak just trying to fit in among regular humans. It's basically an excuse for Dan Aykroyd to be a big weirdo for 90 minutes.

And the soundtrack is equally weird. We've got a handful of really great, classic tracks (including an inexplicable hit single from the Red Hot Chili Peppers), a couple of really great cover songs, as well as one of the worst cover songs we have ever covered on this show. And, of course, Dan Aykroyd has to have a song too. A land of contrasts, this album!

  • It's been 25 years since The X-Files jumped to the big screen! The first of two features based on the show, Fight The Future is The X-Files as a big-budget summer blockbuster. There's alien conspiracies, explosions, races through cornfields, killer bees for some reason... There's a lot to unpack with this film.

And naturally, it came with a pretty stellar soundtrack. The usual suspects of mid-90s rock are all here, including Foo Fighters, Tonic, Better Than Ezra, Ween, and more! We even get a couple cover tunes, courtesy of X and Filter which, honestly, the less said about that one the better...

Anywho, join us as we try to navigate 90s conspiracy theories, David Duchovny thirst traps, the bitter nostalgia for our early teenage years, and a whole lot more!

  • On this episode we go back to the 90s, an era when studios had no problem grabbing any old comic book and turning it into the craziest movie you've ever seen. Case in point: Tank Girl!

In a future wasteland where water is worth more than gold, Lori Petty teams up with Naomi Watts to steal a tank, befriend some kangaroo people, and save the world from a robot-armed Malcolm McDowell. And along the way we get a Cole Porter song, a movie rap courtesy of co-star Ice-T, and all kinds of tunes from some 90s alt-rock greats! So strap yourselves in, because this soundtrack takes no prisoners!

High school buds Shore and Sean Astin dig up and thaw out caveman Fraser, and proceed to teach him how to be cool in early 90s southern California! • When we're not hollering about movie soundtracks, our second favorite hobby is hollering about Star Wars. So on this episode we bring you a Special Edition of our On The Fives where we take a look at ten songs about or inspired by Star Wars.

But there's a twist! With each song, we take turns pitching our own ideas for Star Wars movies based on those songs. And we've got some real bangers here. There are the Weird Al songs, naturally, but we also have tracks from The Hold Steady, Tenacious D, Blink 182 and more! • A new year brings a new series here on the OST Party! This week's film, the 1999 sci-fi rom-com Blast from the Past, marks the finale of our neo-swing trilogy, and also the beginning of our series on the films of Brendan Fraser.

Blast from the Past, as Libby's husband Ian pointed out, is like if you crossed Encino Man with The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. And the soundtrack reflects that weird clash of tones. You've got the square 60s tunes of Perry Como, the neo-swing revival of The Cherry Poppin' Daddies and Squirrel Nut Zippers, and modern 90s rock in acts like Everclear, Dishwalla and Sonichrome.

The whole thing is a fascinating time capsule of where we were in the late-90s, and how that era is well and truly behind us. Time marches on, and so do we!

  • This podcast has been overrun by gremlins! We were supposed to do a Thanksgiving episode on Planes Trains & Automobiles, but the powers that be said, "No, you're doing Gremlins." Those powers may or may not be gremlins. (Send help!)

Anyway, Gremlins has been described as It's A Wonderful Life by way of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and while that thematic well runs deep, the film is mostly concerned with lots and lots of puppet mayhem!

The soundtrack album is short, but features some strange choices, including tracks from Peter Gabriel, Quarterflash and Michael Sembello. We'll also discuss a few of the holiday needledrops, which have become classic scenes in their own right. So grab a glass of egg nog and join us for the wild ride that is Gremlins!

  • We're returning to the world of Edgar Wright this week with the soundtrack to Hot Fuzz! Wright has a reputation for movie soundtracks that are impeccably curated, and Hot Fuzz is no different. The story of The Only Good Cop In England solving a string of murders in the small village of Sandford finds Wright leaning heavily on classic rock tunes from every era.

The film is an absolute riot, but the soundtrack is equally impressive. Sporting tracks from classic acts The Kinks, The Troggs, and The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, but also more modern artists such as The Fratellis, Supergrass and Eels. So strap on your kevlar, water the peace lily and join us down at the pub for a little Hot Fuzz!

Only 90s Kids may remember the phenomenon known as Dinosaurs, an ABC sitcom that ran from 1991 to 1995 and followed the adventures of dinosaur Earl Sinclair and his prehistoric family. Produced by the Jim Henson company, Dinosaurs was not only a marvel of live-action puppetry, but also just some damn funny television.

And in 1992, they produced the album "Big Songs". You'd think this would be a compilation of songs from the show, right? Wrong! This album features twelve tracks recorded by the show's cast exclusively for the album. And most surprising of all, many of the songs are quite good! Join us as we dive in!

  • Are you ready to get real old-timey? This week we discuss the folk and bluegrass revival of O Brother, Where Art Thou? Loosely based on "The Odyssey", Joel and Ethan Coen pulled together an all-star lineup of country musicians to score this wacky road trip through Depression-era Mississippi.

The film is a hoot, but the soundtrack was a sensation. The album hit #1 on the charts over a year after its release, and went on to sell 8 million copies. "I Am A Man of Constant Sorrow" and "O Death" won all the awards, but the real standouts on this album come from Allison Krauss, Gillian Welch, The Whites, and more!

Swingers was one of the pillars of the mid-90s indie film boom, and also a signpost for the toxic masculinity of the era. In between all of that is a soundtrack that Libby calls "wall-to-wall bangers". We get standards from Dean Martin and Tony Bennett, some classic country from Roger Miller and George Jones, and a healthy dose of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy for good measure. Lindsey Buckingham's immortal earworm "Holiday Road" anchors a soundtrack that features the likes of June Pointer, Vanity 6, The Ramones and Nicolette Larson. Larson's song "Summer Hearts" doesn't actually appear in the film, but we discovered there's a very good reason for that.
