Known through his artistic identity Future Films, Jesus Martinez (aka Jesucio) crafts sonic landscapes that blur the boundaries between electronic composition and visual narrative. His work examines the intersections of IDM, pop, ambient textures and noise elements, filtered through a distinctly experimental lens.
As one half of ATOMATA, a collaboration with KENIAA (Kenia Avendano)—a soprano whose practice spans classical technique to unorthodox vocalizations—Martinez expands his sonic palette into new territory. The project merges KENIAA's boundless sonic gestures with electronic manipulation, creating works that oscillate between avant-pop and free-form expression.
Through his label Outburst Intervals, ATOMATA's upcoming EP, The Alchemist, delves into themes of transformation through densely layered songs and sound design. The project, scheduled for release on 11 February 2025, will be preceded by two singles: Sleepwalker (Part 1) on 15 November 2024, and Sinesthesia on 16 January 2025.
Future Films' work inhabits a space where sound and image converge, with each project incorporating visual elements that extend the narrative possibilities of the sonic material. These pieces challenge our perception of conventional audiovisual boundaries, inviting audiences into territories where familiar forms dissolve and reconstruct themselves in unexpected ways.
The song SLEEPWALKER by ATOMATA is featured at the end of the podcast.
