Freshly minted House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has said that he has used a type of porn-monitoring software that has faced questions about its security, privacy, use and abuse.A video clip resurfaced last week in which Johnson, speaking last year, touted Covenant Eyes, which monitors users’ devices for porn and provides reports between “accountability partners” about whether they’d indulged.“It scans all the activity on your phone, or your devices, your laptop, tablet, what have you; we do all of it,” Johnson told the panel on the “War on Technology” about the app.“It sends a report to your accountability partner. So my accountability partner right now is Jack, my son. He’s 17,” he continued. “So he and I get a report of all the things that are on our phones, all of our devices, once a week. If anything objectionable comes up, your accountability partner gets an immediate notice. I’m proud to tell you, my son, he’s got a clean slate.” Related article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/11/07/there-are-reasons-be-leery-house-speakers-porn-monitoring-software-experts-say/Our Guests For This Week:EK Powell: https://www.instagram.com/whatsgoodenglish/Cory Bradford: https://www.tiktok.com/@thisiscory

The House voted late Tuesday to censure Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan — the only Palestinian American in Congress — an extraordinary rebuke of her rhetoric about the Israel-Hamas war.The 234-188 tally came after enough Democrats joined with Republicans to censure Tlaib, a punishment one step below expulsion from the House. The three-term congresswoman has long been a target of criticism for her views on the decades-long conflict in the Middle East. The debate on the censure resolution on Tuesday afternoon was emotional and intense. Republican Rep. Rich McCormick of Georgia pushed the measure in response to what he called Tlaib’s promotion of antisemitic rhetoric. He said she has “levied unbelievable falsehoods about our greatest ally, Israel, and the attack on October 7.”With other Democrats standing by her side, Tlaib defended her stance, saying she “will not be silenced and I will not let you distort my words.” She added that her criticism of Israel has always been directed toward its government and its leadership under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.Related article: https://apnews.com/article/congress-house-censure-resolution-tlaib-8085189047a4c40f2d44ada4604aa076Our Guests For This Week:EK Powell: https://www.instagram.com/whatsgoodenglish/Cory Bradford: https://www.tiktok.com/@thisiscory

Former Obama adviser David Axelrod brushed aside reporting that President Biden used colorful language to complain about his recent commentary about Biden’s reelection chances and political future.Politico’s Jonathan Martin, who has covered Biden for years, reported Monday that Biden referred to him as a “pr‑‑‑” following Axelrod’s recent comments, citing a person who has heard Biden use the word on occasion in private.Axelrod, a longtime Democratic political operative who was a key player in the Obama administration, made headlines last week with a suggestion that Biden should consider stepping aside from running for reelection for the good of the country. The pundit’s commentary came the same day as new polling that found Biden trailing former President Trump, the front-runner for the Republican nomination, in several key battleground states in a potential 2024 match-up.“The stakes are so high,” Axelrod said Monday, standing by his comments. “This isn’t [Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah)] or [former Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.)] … this is Donald Trump. It’s a fundamental question as to what American Democracy is going to look like the day after the next election. He knows that … I’m glad that I said it, and I’ll live with the fact that the president is unhappy with me.”Related article: https://thehill.com/homenews/media/4307375-axelrod-biden-reaction-reelection-comment/Our Guests For This Week:EK Powell: https://www.instagram.com/whatsgoodenglish/Cory Bradford: https://www.tiktok.com/@thisiscory

Competitive races in dozens of states provided insights into what voters are thinking ahead of 2024, including further evidence that voters remain motivated by the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which helped propel Democrats to victories in Kentucky and Virginia. There were also few signs that economic unease hurt incumbents.Voters in the conservative state of Ohio approved two ballot measures. The first will enshrine the right to reproductive care, including access to abortion, in the state constitution. The second will legalize recreational marijuana use. Both amendments required 50% thresholds after voters rejected a measure this year to raise the threshold. The night couldn’t have gone much worse for Gov. Glenn Youngkin and Republicans in Virginia. Not only did Republicans not flip the state Senate, but they did not hold onto the House of Delegates. Youngkin will have to spend the next two years working with a Democratic-controlled legislatureRelated article: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/live-blog/election-day-voting-results-live-updates-rcna121782Our Guests For This Week:EK Powell: https://www.instagram.com/whatsgoodenglish/Cory Bradford: https://www.tiktok.com/@thisiscory

The White House and the Biden campaign are working to tamp down Democratic anxieties over the latest set of polling showing President Biden trailing former President Trump in several key swing states.Biden allies and campaign officials largely shrugged off the New York Times/Siena College poll released Sunday, noting it was a full year away from when voters will cast their ballots. While some current and former Biden aides acknowledged the latest poll painted an unflattering picture, they dismissed the idea that the sky is falling on the president’s chances and pushed back hard against the suggestion that he should consider stepping aside as the party’s presumptive nominee. The New York Times poll followed months of polls that have found voters are concerned about Biden’s age, that they don’t approve of his handling of the economy and that his approval ratings remain mired around 40 percentRelated article: https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4296053-biden-allies-look-to-mitigate-fallout-over-latest-dismal-poll/Our Guests For This Week:Natalie Bencivenga: https://www.instagram.com/nataliebencivenga/CJ Koepp: https://www.instagram.com/cjkoepp/

President Joe Biden issued a new executive order on artificial intelligence — the U.S. government’s first action of its kind — requiring new safety assessments, equity and civil rights guidance and research on AI’s impact on the labor market. While law enforcement agencies have warned that they’re ready to apply existing law to abuses of AI and Congress has endeavored to learn more about the technology to craft new laws, the executive order could have a more immediate impact. Like all executive orders, it “has the force of law,” according to a senior administration official who spoke with reporters on a call Sunday. The order represents “the strongest set of actions any government in the world has ever taken on AI safety, security, and trust,” White House Deputy Chief of Staff Bruce Reed said in a statement.Biden’s executive order requires that large companies share safety test results with the U.S. government before the official release of AI systems. It also prioritizes the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s development of standards for AI “red-teaming,” or stress-testing the defenses and potential problems within systems. The Department of Commerce will develop standards for watermarking AI-generated content.Related article: https://www.cnbc.com/2023/10/30/biden-unveils-us-governments-first-ever-ai-executive-order.htmlOur Guests For This Week:Natalie Bencivenga: https://www.instagram.com/nataliebencivenga/CJ Koepp: https://www.instagram.com/cjkoepp/

General Motors (GM.N) and the United Auto Workers (UAW) struck a tentative deal on Monday, ending the union's unprecedented six-week campaign of coordinated strikes that won record pay increases for workers at the Detroit Three automakers. The accord follows deals the union reached in recent days with Ford Motor (F.N) and Chrysler-owner Stellantis (STLAM.MI) - significant victories for auto workers after years of stagnant wages and painful concessions following the 2008 financial crisis."We wholeheartedly believe our strike squeezed every last dime out of General Motors," UAW President Shawn Fain said in a video address. "They underestimated us. They underestimated you."The union officially suspended its strike against the Detroit Three. UAW local leaders will come to Detroit on Friday to consider the deal with GM, before taking terms to all union workers for ratification.Related article: https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/gm-reaches-tentative-deal-with-uaw-source-says-2023-10-30/Our Guests For This Week:Natalie Bencivenga: https://www.instagram.com/nataliebencivenga/CJ Koepp: https://www.instagram.com/cjkoepp/

Israeli airstrikes hit a densely populated refugee camp in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, killing at least 50 Palestinians and a Hamas commander, and medics struggled to treat the casualties, even setting up operating rooms in hospital corridors.Palestinian health officials said at least 50 Palestinians were killed in the refugee camp blast and 150 wounded. Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem denied any senior commander there and called the claim an Israeli pretext for killing civilians. The blast left large craters in a rubble filled area surrounded by wrecked concrete buildings. In Washington, a group of anti-war protesters raised red-stained hands to interrupt a hearing in Congress on providing more aid to Israel. They shouted slogans including, "Ceasefire now!" "Protect the children of Gaza!" and "Stop funding genocide." Capitol police removed them from the room.Related article: https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/hamas-says-it-fires-israeli-troops-pressing-gaza-ground-assault-2023-10-31/Our Guests For This Week:Natalie Bencivenga: https://www.instagram.com/nataliebencivenga/CJ Koepp: https://www.instagram.com/cjkoepp/

Mayor Eric Adams is ramping up efforts to fly migrants to the destination of their choice, figuring it’s cheaper than sheltering them for months on end. And he’s simultaneously warning that those opting to stay in New York may be in for a winter of sleeping outside with shelters full.“When you are out of room, that means you’re out of room,” Adams told reporters Tuesday. “Every year, my relatives show up for Thanksgiving, and they want to all sleep at my house. There’s no more room. That’s where we are right now.”In recent days, the mayor of the nation’s largest city has been steering people who were vacated from city shelters to a Manhattan office devoted solely to booking plane tickets, creating more uncertainty for the new arrivals.Dispersing them across the nation and world harkens back to when the Democratic mayor ripped Republican governors in Texas and Florida for sending migrants from the southern border to liberal enclaves. But City Hall officials defend their effort as different because the migrants aren’t being coerced to leave.Related article: https://www.politico.com/news/2023/10/26/migrants-nyc-plane-rides-00123778Our Guests For This Week:Bombshell: https://www.instagram.com/transxbombshell/EK Powell: https://www.instagram.com/whatsgoodenglish/

A shooting rampage in Lewiston, Maine, left 18 dead and 13 more injured Wednesday evening after a gunman opened fire on a bowling alley and a restaurant.Lewiston is a sprawling residential and industrial area just off the Maine Turnpike and is home to two hospitals and the private liberal arts school Bates College. It’s a largely working-class community, with a median household income of about $48,000 and in which about 16% of the population lives in poverty, according to the US Census.Maine Gov. Janet Mills governor, who met her husband in Lewiston, described it as a “special place.”“It’s a close-knit community with a long history of hard work, of persistence, of faith, of opening its big heart to people everywhere,” Mills said. “This city did not deserve this terrible assault on its citizens, on its peace of mind, on its sense of security. No city does, no state, no people.”Related article: https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/lewiston-maine-shootings-active-shooter-10-25-23/index.htmlOur Guests For This Week:Bombshell: https://www.instagram.com/transxbombshell/EK Powell: https://www.instagram.com/whatsgoodenglish/
