  • Today, we speak to George, who is a mixologist. But he doesn't want to be called a mixologist. Because that's a bit pretentious.

He tells us all about cocktails. Which are the most popular. Why ice is so important. And why they're even called cocktails in the first place, which has something to do with ginger in a horse.
And, Joe and Tom get a bit tipsy on a signature show drink.

  • If there was a footballer version of Joe Marler, it would definitely be Jimmy Bullard. What happens when you put them in a room together? Mayhem. This episode is mostly a discussion about why Joe never calls Jimmy back, how much footballers earn compared to rugby players, and a ludicrous story about Paulo Di Canio. Brace yourselves for this one.

  • We're back at The Clapham Grand, and our guest today has the most ludicrous list of jobs we've ever had on Things People Did. Marcus Brigstocke used to work on an oil rig, where he practised for his other job as a podium dancer. He was also a rollerblading instructor, the 'chief beverages officer' at a Little Chef (remember those? whilst moonlighting as a world cheese judge.

  • Today we are joined by Charlotte, who is a footwear technologist (no, we didn't know that was a job either)! She is responsible for making sure our shoes are safe, comfortable and that they don't fall apart while we're wearing them. This episode is full of random facts and philosophical questions about footwear, such as 'why do Converse get cooked in an oven', 'why are they called sneakers' and 'do slippers count as shoes'? Joe also talks us through his ridiculous number of shoes... can you guess how many pairs he has? You won't believe it.

  • Our guest today is Max, who is a train driver, a listener of the show, and a very lucky man because he can get on any train he wants for free. In this episode, he tells us what it's like handling the 'vomit commit' last train out of London on a Friday, about the time he caused delays because nature called, and why driving a train is like playing a giant Bop It! • Can we do a whole episode about batteries? You bet we can. Batteries are everywhere. They are in your remote controls. Your cars. The random draw you probably have in the kitchen, full of both new and used batteries and you can’t remember which are which. But do you know how they work? When the first battery was invented? Why phone batteries deteriorate? How many massive batteries it would take to power Wembley Stadium? Our guest today is Cillian (aka The Batt-man) who is here to tell us everything we’ve ever wanted to know about batteries, including a big revelation about electric cars. Apparently they’re not all that?

This episode is brought to you in partnership with East Start Batteries. You can find out more about them here: https://www.easystartbatteries.co.uk

  • It turns out that there is a lot more to the popular form of exercise 'pilates' than meets the eye. In this episode, we meet Chloe, who is a qualified instructor and knows everything there is to know about pilates. There are lots of instruments that sound like they could be used for torture, there are 'elders' and a metaphor about a tree that cn get quite out of hand. Chloe is also very good at fixing people's physical problems through pilates, and there are lots of tips in this episode that might just sort your back out.

  • We've got an absolute legend of British comedy in the studio today... it's Nick Frost! Joe gets very star struck, as Nick tells us how he went from being a waiter and factory worker, to starring in Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and many more iconic comedy films. It also turns out he is better at scrummaging than Joe as well, and he never got a single free Cornetto after the Cornetto trilogy.

  • Meet Will, who has worked in the industry since before the Hob Nob was invented. In fact, he almost vetoed the name 'Hob Nob' before it was released. In this episode you will discover who writes the joke on a Penguin bar, Joe's very strange way of eating a chocolate digesting, and a phenomenal story including a lawsuit and a two-foot Jaffa Cake. There is also a major break through, as 'Things People Dunk' is born...

  • Jules went to prison when she was 20 years old, and is here to tell us all about what life is like on the inside. In this episode, we talk about what food you can eat (hairy chicken legs anyone?), how you pass the time and how you survive in sometimes very difficult conditions. She also tells us about being released, what it is like to re-enter the outside world, and about the amazing work she now does in helping others who have been through the criminal justice system, by discussing key issues on her podcast, 'Life After Prison'.

  • We're back at the Clapham Grand, and our guest is the phenomenal Catherine Bohart! Before she was a comedian, she can boast that she worked in the only cinema in Ireland that put hot butter on their popcorn, she travelled the world competing in a debate team, and she is an expert at keeping an Orchid alive from her days as a receptionist. Joe also learns a lot in this episode, including that you can get Ox bile tablets from Holland and Barrett, and that buses sometimes have a roof. It's a wild ride.

In this episode you'll hear about a real life chicken run, a hen that met Emma Watson and how to go about cleaning up 1000 cracked eggs. There are also multiple times where the entire podcast is basically just chicken noises, because Joe has lost his voice. Enjoy.

And why is World's Strongest Man always sunny in December? • We have not one, but two excellent guests this week. Luke 'The Highland Oak' Stoltman and Tom 'The Albatross' Stoltman (yes, it is compulsory to have a cool strongman name). They are the world's strongest brothers, and their story is incredible. What is more incredible, is the sheer weight of the things they lift, and the amount of calories they consume before they do so. This episode was so good, we had to split it into two parts. Part two will be out on Friday!

This week's guest was forced to come on the show by her sister. But we're so glad she came!

Olivia is an embryologist. Which means she helps people make babies, using science. She's helped to make 600 babies, and has even had one named after her. But we couldn't just talk about the heartwarming stuff. Of course we had to mention the slightly sticky world of sample collection.

And Joe and Tom share their stories of when they've had to provide samples of their own.

We revisit the time Joe and Tom met firefighter Darren in this week's classic episode. And we obviously ask him all about poles and hoses. But will he agree to replace the pole at the station with a water slide?
