  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and founding drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard for an encouraging and thought provoking conversation with the CEO and Co-Founder of GetDynasty.com, Alessandro Chesser.

Alessandro grew up in Silicon Valley, the child of hard working Cicilian Immigrants. He saw firsthand the wealth that so many of his friends' families had acquired by being part of various startups… and he became determined to do the same when he got older.

He has accomplished all that and so much more. After running several companies and building Millions of Dollars worth of sales, Alessandro has already achieved an incredible amount in his life. However, While many may think that his success has been all happiness and roses, oftentimes it has very much been the opposite.

Alessandro is an open book, and the vulnerability and struggles he shares through this conversation on the “Harder to Breathe” Podcast are really inspiring. He goes into the physical manifestations of the anxiety that he’s experienced, how he’s turned to substance abuse in the past, and how becoming a father has changed the way he sees the world entirely. It’s a lesson in the value and importance of authenticity, not only in business and sales, but in life.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and founding drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard to share a fantastic conversation with Jenna Andrews: musician, songwriter, and producer for the the likes of icons such as BTS, Drake, Jennifer Lopez, Tori Kelly, and so many more.

Having gotten started as a musician herself, Jenna has the unique vantage point of understanding both the artistic and administrative aspects of finding success in the music industry… and on the flipside, she knows what it's like to find herself in the middle of a Panic Attack in the middle of an important session.

The three have an instant connection, perhaps most epitomized by their shared agreement that all aspects of life, whether intentionally planned or otherwise, have the ability to come back to serve you in a greater purpose down the road. Yes, even dealing with anxiety.

Ryan, Duck, and Jenna all agree that perceptions surrounding mental health have improved from where they used to be… but that there is also still a long way to go. The challenge is especially prevalent in positions of leadership. Thankfully, through Jenna’s “The Green Room Talks” Podcast, and hopefully through our own “Harder to Breathe” Podcast as well, more and more people will consider honesty and vulnerability not as a liability but instead, as a useful tool for human connection, sympathy, and understanding.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and founding drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard to share a truly profound discussion with Dr. David Rosmarin, author, speaker, and founder of the Center for Anxiety.

So often in the medical space, spirituality is totally dismissed. On the other hand, in many spiritual circles, science is passed over in favor of faith. With Dr. Rosmarin, the two things can– and in fact should– live together in harmony… especially when it comes to approaching mental health and anxiety.

Dr. David has spent his professional career seeking ways to better handle his own issues with anxiety, and doing what he can to help others who are struggling in the same way. Through the conversation with Ryan and Duck, we learn pretty quickly just how relatable and useful his advice is, and how each of the men has used his “4 Steps” to get on the other side of a pretty intense anxiety attack.

No matter where you stand from a Spiritual Perspective, it’s an absolutely can’t-miss conversation. Dr. Rosmarin recognizes that each one of us, at some point in our lives, feels the need to connect to something greater than ourselves. In doing so, we allow ourselves to take a step back, and accept whatever might come our way. It’s a conversation that sits right at the heart of improving mental health, openness, and vulnerability, the primary goals here at the “Harder to Breathe” Podcast.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and former drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard for a discussion with speaker, writer, and founder of “Big Talk”, Kalina Silverman. The name and concept of “Big Talk” is simple, but the execution is nuanced, complex, and changing lives around the globe.

As Kalina explains, “Big Talk” is simply the opposite of Small Talk. It’s a set of questions that are designed to improve the conversations that we have with other people. She has sorted the questions into a deck of cards, which provide the encouragement we need to dive into a discussion from a Deeper Place… and avoid superficial conversations that leave us feeling unfulfilled.

Kalina has used government grants and global travel to test out the concept of “Big Talk” with people all around the globe, and its widespread success simply proves how universal the human experience is. We all deal with love, loss, grief, pride, success, and failure and discussing these topics is the easiest way we can connect with other people.

Ultimately the trio share in a few rounds of “Big Talk” for themselves, and have the opportunity to open up with each other and quickly dig into some vulnerable topics; the bread and butter of the “Harder to Breathe” podcast.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and former drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard for an incredible discussion with an absolute legend… It’s the one and only Rob Cavallo. If you aren’t familiar with his name, you’re familiar with his music. He has produced records for Green Day, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, The Goo Goo Dolls, Fleetwood Mac and more… all of which have combined to sell over 130 million copies worldwide.

Rob and Ryan were first introduced in the 90’s when Rob produced “The Fourth World” for Kara’s Flowers, the band that would eventually become known as Maroon 5. They’ve kept in contact over the years, giving us the incredible opportunity to hear about Rob’s personal connection to his work and to mental health.

The ease with which Rob goes from talking about producing some of the biggest albums of all time to talking about his own personal struggles with PTSD, speaks to how much he prioritizes mental health, therapy, and increasing accessibility to those who might otherwise be unable to afford it.

Whether you’re someone with a fascination surrounding the music industry, music production, have an interest in mental health, or all of the above, Rob, Ryan, and Duck cover it with precision. It takes a certain kind of creative mind to be able to produce a catalog like Rob’s, and it’s such an incredible opportunity to get a small sample of what makes him tick here on the “Harder to Breathe” podcast.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'", host and former drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard to discuss a highly effective form of therapy known as “Somatic Experiencing” with licensed professional, speaker, author, and coach, Jen Guidry.

Jen reached the highest level of career success in the Mortgage world, having achieved a 7 figure income, and constantly in high demand. Everything was great… until she was diagnosed with cancer. The near-death experience totally rocked her world, and it forced her to realize that she was working in a space that wasn’t fulfilling. She wanted to help people.

As she explains, after surviving several high-intensity Panic Attacks while driving her vehicle, Jen was introduced by a friend to Somatic Experiencing– which at its core is a form of therapy intended to target the body and the way that the body physically manifests trauma. From there, she went down a deep rabbit hole, eventually becoming a licensed specialist in the area, writing books, and now coaching many people on the benefits every single day.

It’s an amazing and highly balanced conversation. Ryan walks us through his personal experience with Somatic Experiencing and how it was effective for him in a way that traditional talk therapy was not, and Duck represents us, the audience, as a mediator of the discussion to ensure that those of us who aren’t quite as familiar with the practice understand exactly what it’s about. It’s a fantastic discussion, and another can’t-miss episode of the “Harder to Breathe” Podcast.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and former drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard for a discussion with the talented film & television actor Pooch Hall, most known for his roles on “The Game” and “Ray Donovan”.

Duck and Pooch have a history that extends over 20 years, going back to a shared experience on a Ford Commercial in the early 2000s. They’ve stayed in touch ever since, something that is hard to come by in the ever-changing world of show business.

In the years since, Pooch has ascended to the highest of highs and dipped to the lowest of lows. He’s worked with some of the biggest stars in the entertainment industry and experienced all the fame, money, and success that comes along with the limelight… and he’s seen what it’s like to end up on TMZ for being jailed on a DUI with his child in the car.

Now, having successfully found sobriety, Pooch is open and forthcoming about the experiences of his past… and how they have shaped the man who he is today. It’s a broad conversation in which Pooch shares so much about how he views Purpose, embracing emotion, and ultimately finding a path to sobriety amidst fame and controversy. It only covers the surface of Pooch’s incredible story, so be sure to subscribe to the “Harder to Breathe” Podcast so you don’t miss a future Part 2.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and former drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard for a discussion on Parenting with Destini Ann Davis, Parenting Coach and Social Media Sensation.

Each of the three approaches the conversation from a different angle: Destini Ann as a single mother with ADHD, Duck as a Father of an 11-Year-Old Son, and Ryan without children, but who regularly works with parents as part of his therapy practice.

Their varied life experiences foster a fantastic discussion that covers immense ground in a short period of time. We’re lucky to quickly get a feel for Destini Ann’s remarkable and grounded approach as a parenting coach, and see how it works in real time as she helps Duck with some challenges that he’s been facing as a father. Add in a touch of Ryan’s professional insight into human behavior as a therapist, and you have a really effective, useful, and empowering conversation on what it means to be both a parent and a human being.

It’s easy to see why Destini Ann has found such success both as a coach and as an internet personality. She will immediately give you a sense of confidence in yourself, as well as a desire to improve, and create a better life for your “community” no matter what that looks like… and she certainly pulls that off yet again here on the “Harder to Breathe” Podcast.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and former drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard to welcome a true Renaissance Woman and multi-hyphenate in the amazing Nikki Sharp.

Nikki is a Former Model, and Present-Day Speaker, Health Professional, Author, Podcaster, and Coach, but despite all her labels, one thing you’ll learn quickly is that the only label that truly matters to Nikki is “Nikki”. Being herself. It’s that sort of Radical Transparency that has guided her through some troubled and stressful times in her life, including overcoming an Eating Disorder and getting through her recent divorce.

Throughout the Course of the discussion, a recurring theme is choosing yourself through Self-Love and everything that it entails… but also avoiding the pitfalls that come along with over indulging in unhealthy coping mechanisms. How do we find the balance between the two? From there the conversation finds its way to the concept of “Masks” or “Alter-Egos”. Are we truly being ourselves if we act differently in different surroundings? When is it healthy and when is it hurtful?

Being Transparent and Authentic is easier said than done, but Nikki’s “Zero F***s Mentality” is contagious, and you walk away from the conversation feeling ready to break through any emotional or physical barriers that might be holding you back. It’s a fantastic discussion, and another thought-provoking and memorable episode of the “Harder to Breathe” Podcast.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and former drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard for a discussion with successful entrepreneur, speaker, and coach, Bill Faeth. Bill has been at the helm of many start-up businesses, has had countless employees, and has acquired an enormous Net Worth over the years… and even he has room to open up about stress, family, and leadership.

You would think that “artist-types” Ryan and Duck wouldn’t have much in common with a Type A Personality like Bill, but as the discussion progresses you’ll have the chance to watch Bill’s walls come down in real time as he moves from mentioning the remarkable work he has done in the business sector, to confiding with us about the role he plays at home and with his family.

Bill is an incredible individual to hear speak, and will be the first to tell you how he is extremely organized and put together. But he has learned over time the value of the human being within a workplace context, and has come to find himself in a fantastic relationship with his only employee, as well as in a very happy and successful marriage with his wife— all based around navigating personality, and embracing open and honest communication.

It’s a gripping discussion that covers so many aspects of life in a short period of time from love, to sex, to intimacy, to money, to business, to family, to children, and to so much more. Another absolutely can’t miss episode here at the “Harder to Breathe” Podcast.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and former drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard for a discussion with Ryan’s Father, Kenny Dusick. Together the three share a fascinating conversation surrounding the ups and downs of a father-son relationship that has spanned success, addiction, and everything else in between.

Kenny, or “Uncle Kenny” as he likes to be called, is the life of the party, and his humor, charm, and charisma is part of what has given him so much success as an attorney, and within his personal relationships. But underneath the surface, he has had to deal with many issues of his own throughout his journey, and the vulnerability he expresses regarding codependency, control issues, and the relationships with his own parents is all laid out in this discussion.

It may be one of the deepest conversations we’ve seen yet on the “Harder to Breathe” Podcast, as Ryan and Kenny talk through their own former codependency, and how ultimately creating some separation was what was needed in order for Ryan to be able to grow as a human being and as an artist.

It all culminates at the “House of Blues”, where Kenny and Ryan had a bit of a revealing argument in the past… but it proved to be an essential conversation in opening up a much healthier relationship for them moving forward.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and former drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard for a discussion with Brent Smith, lead singer of the iconic Rock Band “Shinedown”. Active in the music scene for well over 2 decades, Shinedown is known for global smash hits like “Second Chance” and “A Symptom of Being Human” among many others.

Similarly to Ryan, Brent has made mental health a focal point of his life and music. Having dealt with his own issues within the world of addiction, Brent has come out on the other side more focused than ever on shifting the discussion of Mental Health not just to awareness, but beyond it into solutions and finding help.

Through the very conversational style of the discussion, the trio touch on a wide spectrum of topics, including creating powerful music that maintains its vulnerability, leading a team of people with grace and kindness, and avoiding spending too much time on what others think.

It’s another can’t miss episode of “Harder to Breathe”, not just for music fans, but for anyone who has dealt with finding identity, battling addiction, and giving the universe permission to lead you to the next open door.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and former drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard for a discussion with one of the most accomplished singer/song-writers working in the music industry today. Her reputation speaks for itself, and even if you don’t know her, you have certainly heard her music. It's the iconic Sara Bareilles.

Sara has spent years balancing the challenges inherent to finding a space in the music industry, and she goes into generous detail about the anxiety and depression she has faced at different points in her life throughout the process. She is a huge advocate for mental health, and while she remains as aspirational as ever, she has also found the importance of saying “No” and creating a safe space in her mind to avoid burnout.

Ryan and Sara have a fascinating shared history that dates back to their early days at UCLA. It culminates in a genuine and heartfelt apology from Ryan that is one of the most touching and truthful moments on the Harder to Breathe Podcast to date.

Never to be left out, Duck also gets the chance to put on his “fan” hat for a moment and ask some questions regarding Sara’s musical theater career, including what she’s working on next… including a new Broadway musical adaptation of “The Interestings”, a new album, AND several upcoming performances at the iconic Hollywood Bowl music venue featuring a full orchestra.

In just an hour, the three share so many incredible moments, and it’s hard not to come away from the discussion feeling great satisfaction that so much success has come to such a lovely person in Grammy Award Winner, and Tony/Emmy nominee Sara Bareilles.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and former drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard to welcome Laura Casselman, the CEO of “JVZoo”, Speaker, Best Selling Author, and former member of the iconic Radio City Rockettes.

Laura’s confidence is contagious, and as soon as she starts speaking you understand how she’s been able to foster success in so many areas of her life. She’s adamant about fighting the sexism that’s present in the businessworld, and has learned countless lessons along the way about the importance of Strategy, Winning, and Keeping a Level Head in high pressure situations.

The one thing all three have in common is their performance thread, and Laura’s love for the limelight has been an enormous advantage in the corporate boardroom. Every negotiation is a stage and as she will tell you, there is always room to intentionally seek out lessons from failure.

The passion for what she does, and the accountability and emotional support she receives from friends and loved ones are what keep Laura grinding from day to day. Finding “harmony” is essential, and Laura proves that when you love what you do and have healthy ways of dealing with Ego, Pride, Confidence, and more… you give yourself a fantastic opportunity to find “success”, no matter how you define it.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and former drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard for a rare live & in-person conversation with Author, Filmmaker, and Street Artist “Morley”.

If you have the chance to look over Morley’s street art portfolio, or if you stumble upon a piece of his work as you’re walking through Los Angeles, you’ll quickly see that there is much more depth to his art than you might typically expect from someone who claims “street artist” as their profession.

That depth extends into the conversation, as the three men chat about what it really means to be an artist in the 21st century. It’s a wide-reaching discussion that covers topics such as balancing Dreams and Reality when growing up in the “you can do anything” era, choosing the messages you’re putting out into the world, maintaining artistic integrity, and staying “cool” as the meaning of the word shifts and changes over time.

As Duck points out, it can be hard to separate yourself from your work as an artist, especially when the work is a direct expression of yourself, but finding the balance between expression, finances, and living a life you enjoy and are proud of is an absolutely worthwhile endeavor. On the whole, it’s a fantastic discussion, and broadly beneficial to artists and non-artists alike.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and former drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard to share in an incredible and authentic conversation with former combat Veteran, Thunderbird Soloist, Motivational Speaker, and 2 Time Author, Michelle “MACE” Curran.

Spectators would frequently call Michelle a “Bad-Ass” after seeing her fly with the Thunderbirds, and while she’ll be the first to humbly deny it, it’s hard to disagree. She has done some incredible things that most people could never imagine doing. Brian and Duck quickly dive into the bravery that is required to jump into these positions, and learn a lot about what the word “bravery” means to a person like Michelle.

It’s really a perfect fit for the “Harder to Breathe” Podcast, because since leaving the Thunderbirds, Michelle has turned her focus toward speaking about the importance of vulnerability. She talks openly about the struggles she faced as one of the only women in history to achieve her rank in the Thunderbirds, and how she oftentimes found herself trying to hide the fact that she was struggling– even when it would have benefited her to reach out to others.

The recurring word that comes up throughout the discussion is “Authenticity”, and you’ll see why right away. Michelle, Ryan, and Duck have a conversation here that flows effortlessly, despite their differing backgrounds. Michelle is able to make her incredible and action-packed life seem relatable to everyone, and it’s proof that even the most “elevated” of us are still human beings, with human problems and human emotions.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host and former drummer of “Maroon 5” Ryan Dusick is joined by co-host and actor Brian “Duck” Maillard to welcome two very special guests: Mark Anderson and Ryan Fey, food entertainers better known by their joint branding persona “The Grill Dads”.

The warmth of the Grill Dads is felt right away, owing in part to the long held relationship between Dusick and Mark, a friendship that stretches back to the Maroon 5 Touring Days. The four men have a touching and humorous conversation that finds its way into some really vulnerable areas, including divorce, masculinity, mental health, imposter syndrome, addiction, social media, and more.

Mark and Fey discuss the challenges of presenting themselves as “Lighthouse Dads” while maintaining strong real-life relationships with their families, as well as the burn-out that can be associated with having as many “Irons in the Fire” as they do.

It’s a conversation that shows the depth of the intelligence, business acumen, and self-awareness that the Grill Dads carry beyond their front-facing “Idiot” persona. No doubt you’ll hear a little bit of your own experiences reflected back at you through their discussion.

  • For today’s episode of “Harder to Breathe'', host Ryan Dusick is joined by longtime friend and occasional collaborator Brian “Duck” Maillard. Duck’s successful acting career (as well as his anxiety) began on the Off-Broadway stage in New York City. After deciding to turn his focus to film and tv, he moved to Los Angeles where he would go on to meet Ryan at a Costume Party just before the end of Ryan’s time as the drummer of Maroon 5.

Despite seeming like he had it all together, Ryan was dealing with heavy alcohol addiction for the first decade of their friendship– something that Duck never knew he was going through. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the trauma that Duck experienced as a result of growing up under his father’s alcoholism, has led him to a lifetime of complete sobriety which he maintains to this day.

Ultimately, the conversation allows both men to be vulnerable about their experiences, one of the main goals here on the “Harder to Breathe'' podcast. The two discuss the importance of being upfront and honest with yourself about what you’re feeling and what you’re going through. It may not always help to be “positive”, but it does help to have an awareness of what you’re feeling– especially if you are comfortable sharing that experience with others.
