  • This week we are happy to welcome twin parents and podcast hosts, Lauren and Nick Mulenos to The Hamilton Review Podcast!

In this conversation, Lauren and Nick talk a lot about traveling with young kids, sharing their own experiences, how to do it all (or not!) and more.

Lauren also discusses her wonderful children's book, "It Takes Two."

Don't miss this conversation for twin families and families with young children.

Lauren's bio in her own words:

I’m Lauren and I’m a mom of boy girl, fraternal twins. I felt really left out as a first time mom (FTM), because all the other FTMs I knew were having a boy or a girl. I felt truly happy and blessed having twins, but I also felt extremely left out. Not only was I trying to navigate a twin pregnancy and what it was like to have two babies, but I also was left feeling very alone in the #boymom and #girlmom era. Out of these growing pains formed the idea for Boy Girl Mom (BGM.) I loved that “boy girl mom dot com” rhymed - no joke, I was sitting on the couch feeding my babies when they were about 6 months old and the idea just came to me. I checked to see if anyone had the website and some short minutes later, the domain BoyGirlMom.com was mine. Of course it took me a year to do something with it, but I saw I need for this kind of content and I’m committed to bringing it to you. I want to create a community where I can share tips and thoughts from my parenting journey. I plan on sharing real time lessons I’m learning, products I’m loving, time-hack tips and more. There are also some tricks I have up my sleeve that I can’t announce yet (!!!)

In this dynamic and informative conversation, Dan talks with Dr. Bob about trying to understand why most populations around the world are shrinking, and why most countries are having fewer and fewer children while Israel is defying all the odds. Israel is the only western democratic and affluent country that is having a lot of babies.

What is Israel doing - why is it staying young and growing?

Dan also discusses the role that ritual plays in keeping families and communities together.

  • This week we welcome author and clinical psychologist Dr. Mark McConville to The Hamilton Review Podcast! Dr. McConville discusses his must read book for parents entitled "Failure To Launch."

McConville investigates the root causes of this problem: Why are modern kids “failing to launch” in ever-increasing numbers? The key, McConville has found, is that they are struggling with three critical skills that are necessary to make the transition from childhood to adulthood–finding a sense of purpose, developing administrative responsibility, and cultivating interdependence. In Failure to Launch, McConville breaks these down into achievable, accessible goals and offers a practical guide for the whole family, to help parents instill those skills in their young adults–and to get their kids into the real world, ready to start their lives.

    Enjoy this valuable conversation!

Mark McConville Ph.D. is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Beachwood, Ohio, specializing in adult, adolescent, emerging adult, and family psychology. Dr. McConville is a senior faculty member at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland and has lectured and taught widely on the subjects of child development, parenting, and counseling methodology.

His book Adolescence: Psychotherapy and the Emergent Self (Jossey-Bass, 1995) was awarded the 1995 Nevis Prize for Outstanding Contribution to Gestalt Therapy theory. He is the author of the Counseling Feedback Report, an innovative and widely used adolescent assessment tool, and is co-editor of The Heart of Development: Gestalt Approaches to Childhood and Adolescence, vols. I & II,(The Analytic Press, 2001). His latest book titled ‘Failure to Launch’ which investigates the root causes of why modern kids are struggling to transition from childhood to adulthood was released in January 2020.

It’s a great story, but none of it is true. The real story – slavery, escape, murder, and the struggles of faith against all odds – is much better."
