  • The Great Unbecoming is a show about stories of unlearning. What did you let go of in order to become the person you are today, and what did you gain and learn as well? This is a show about letting go of stories that no longer serves us and stepping into our own authenticity. It's about unbecoming what society says you should be, and remembering who you are, and who you are meant to be.

  • Michael Sasaki is a Japanese-American Queer Artist striving to tell stories of the voiceless in the filmmaking industry in LA. A former national competitive figure skater, Michael now splits his time coaching young skaters and acting for tv/film. You might have caught him on shows such as Cobra Kai or Shameless and soon he’ll be making an appearance on CSI Vegas and Grey’s Anatomy. During the pandemic, Michael wrote, produced, and acted in a short film about owning one’s own identity regardless of its consequences. This film has been selected at over 20 film festivals throughout the world and also won Best Short at Malaga Film Festival in Spain. Michael aims to create art that will inspire and create hope in people hearts around the world.

A note from Michael: I’m so excited to share the practice of Nichiren Buddhism with you all! Though I was born into Buddhism, I have been seriously practicing since I was 18 years old, and continue to learn so many powerful things about my own life. I can’t wait to share! I’ll cover the basics of the origins of the practice, and how the practice works, and the mantra we chant "Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo” (I know tongue twister!) I’ll share a little bit about how I applied this in my own life to overcome various challenges. I’ll leave some time at the end so that you can ask any questions you want and I’ll do my very best to answer them. There are no silly questions, so please feel free to ask anything you’d like! Looking forward to seeing you all!
