  • Saumya Dave, M.D. is a psychiatrist, author, and mom to a toddler. She completed her psychiatry training at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, where she was a chief resident and currently teaches a Narrative Medicine course. In her private practice, she is especially passionate about working with women in areas such as self-care, motherhood, and burnout. Her third novel, THE GUILT PILL, will be released in early 2025 and explores motherhood, guilt, and ambition.

    In this conversation we discuss the impact of mom guilt and the importance of self-compassion in navigating these feelings.

  • Erin Bagwell shares her journey as a mother and her experience with postpartum depression as well as her experience as a feminist and filmmaker.

    Erin Bagwell is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, podcaster, maternal health advocate, and mom of two. In 2014 she launched a successful Kickstarter campaign, raising over $100K in funding to produce her first feature length film Dream, Girl that premiered at Obama's White House. In 2018 she became a mother and started filming Year One, about the everyday extraordinary moments of being a mom while healing from postpartum depression. Erin is currently in production now on a new documentary about the unpaid labor of mothers and just wrapped the first season of her podcast Love in Common.

  • Michelle Zagardo is the mom to an incredible 2 year old daughter and is expecting her second daughter. She runs the Instagram account @foodbodiesfamilies and hosts The Body Competence Podcast, empowering parents to become body competent at the same time that they work to raise kids who have better relationships with food and bodies than they do. She lives with a neurological sleep disorder (called narcolepsy) and is the co-facilitator of a weekly support group for pregnant women and moms managing similar conditions.   • Today I am speaking with Kayleigh Summers. Kayleigh is a licensed therapist, mom, and birth trauma survivor located in Southeastern PA. You may know her on social media as thebirthtrauma_mama. Kayleigh suffered an Amniotic Fluid Embolism during the birth of her son in 2019, which almost took her life. Since then, She’s used her skillset as a therapist and lived experiences as a birth trauma survivor to create a supportive community for others who have experienced trauma during the perinatal period. She creates social media content and resources to help other birth trauma survivors navigate their healing.

Koa Beck is the author of the acclaimed nonfiction book “White Feminism: From the Suffragettes to Influencers and Who They Leave Behind.” She is a recipient of both the Alan Jutzi Fellowship at The Huntington and the Joan Shorenstein Fellowship at the Harvard Kennedy School. She lives in Los Angeles with her wife and foster children. Most recently, her essay titled Nanny of the State was published in the Massachusetts review where she details how gender mythology dictates who gets deemed a good mother on the state level and how children are routinely and legally taken from their families to be placed in homes like hers.
