Dr. Lori Asztalos is a dermatologist who doesn’t fit the mold. Because she matched into dermatology, you could assume she had the PERFECT application with top board scores.
But that isn’t her story; she wasn’t AOA and had an average board score.
Dr. Asztalos completed two years of pediatric residency until she decided to switch specialties and go for one of the most competitive specialties in medicine: dermatology.
She dropped out of her pediatric residency to begin a new endeavor and apply to residency AGAIN, but this time to dermatology.
People advised against it. She was told that her scores weren’t “good enough”. Some thought she was crazy.…but she didn’t listen and paved her own path. And she made it!
