  • Brim Fishing Project Celebrates Milestone with Thrilling Tournament Coverage

The Bream Fishing Project podcast marked its 100th episode with an exciting recap of the Western Australian Tournament Anglers Kayak Round 3. Held at Moore River on September 29, 2024, the event drew an impressive 39 kayak anglers, showcasing the growing popularity of the sport.

Host Andrew Death kicked off the landmark episode by expressing heartfelt gratitude to listeners, sponsors, and guests who have supported the show throughout its journey. The celebration, however, quickly turned to the action-packed tournament at hand.

Moore River, described by competitors as a small but rewarding fishing system, proved to be a challenging yet fruitful venue. Its compact nature demanded strategic approaches from anglers, with the potential for excellent catches lurking in its waters.

Alex Griesdorf secured third place with a respectable haul of three fish weighing 1.60 kg. His arsenal included a mix of grubs, Slim Swims, and Baby Vibes, demonstrating the effectiveness of versatility in lure selection.

Edging out Alex for second place, Matt McCarthy landed three fish totaling 1.820 kg. McCarthy's success came from an unconventional "dragon belly" soft plastic and the reliable pygmy mussel lure. His methodical approach to fishing structure, particularly trees and rocks, paid dividends.

Both anglers emphasized the importance of slow retrieves and light 3 lb leaders in their strategies. The shallow waters and edges of Moore River proved to be prime hunting grounds for bream, requiring finesse and patience from the competitors.

Adrian Barbour emerged victorious in the Western Australian Tournament Anglers Kayak Round 3 at Moore River, securing first place with a bag of three fish weighing 1.87 kilos. Despite feeling jet-lagged from a recent overseas trip, Barbour found success close to the launch site, fishing within a kilometer of the start. His winning strategy involved using a 3-pound straight-through leader and slow-rolling soft plastics, particularly a discontinued color of Jackall minnow. Barbourā€™s patience paid off as he landed his three keepers by 9:30 AM, including two 34cm fish and one 30cm fish.

  • In this episode of The Bream Fishing Project, Andrew Death takes you to one of his favorite fishing destinationsā€”Fosterā€”for the Hobie Series event held on September 21-22, 2024. Known for its challenging conditions and iconic racks, Foster didnā€™t disappoint, presenting anglers with tough tidal shifts, delayed tide movements, and plenty of lessons learned along the way.

Andrew dives into his personal experience, including the highs of competing at a beloved location and the lows of finishing 22nd with a bag he had hoped would weigh more. Hear all about the bite periods, tidal challenges, and the strategies that worked (and didnā€™t). Despite the hurdles, the event was packed with standout performances and valuable insights.

Join Andrew as he recaps the achievements of top anglers like Warren Allen, who secured Big Bream honors, Ruth Beebyā€™s impressive win in the Womenā€™s Division, and Luke Roganā€™s calculated approach that led to his second consecutive Hobie Series winā€”despite only weighing five fish across the weekend! Listen to exclusive interviews with podium finishers Mitch Madison, Glenn Allen, and Luke Rogan, who break down their winning strategies, favorite lures, and the techniques that helped them succeed.

  • Episode Title: "Round Four Recap: Bream Masters SA Akuma Round at Onkaparinga River"

    Episode Description:
Welcome back to The Bream Fishing Project! In this episode, we head to the iconic Onkaparinga River in South Australia for the Bream Masters Round Four Akuma event. Known for its challenging conditions and elusive bream, this river offered no easy path to victory. We break down all the key moments, share the inside scoop from the competition, and catch up with the anglers who made their mark on this exciting round.

First, we recap the event highlights, starting with some impressive early catches and the shifts in tactics as competitors tried to find the best spots. We dig into the details, including the tides, which peaked at 7:39 AM at 2.07m before running down to a low of 0.68m at 1:38 PM, with the key bite period from 9:25 to 10:55 AM. It was a tough day on the water, with many anglers struggling to get bites in clear and challenging conditions, but persistence paid off.

We kick off the interviews with Ryan Ottens, who landed 1.88 kg for third place. He shares how pre-fishing helped shape his strategy, focusing on consistent areas with mid-thirties fish. Despite a tough day of fishing with long stretches of no bites, Ryan's persistence and tactical decisions to switch spots eventually paid off, securing him a solid podium finish.

Next, we chat with Ben Harrison, who bagged three fish for 2.33 kg, claiming second place. Ben reveals the importance of versatility in his approach, as he switched between surface lures and grubs to find success. He shares a unique moment when he offered a fellow competitor a game-changing tip, highlighting the collaborative spirit of the competition. With multiple upgrades throughout the day, Ben's steady approach and keen understanding of Onkaparinga's shifting conditions kept him in the race.

Finally, we hear from the Angler of the Year, Josh Bland, who clinched the win with an impressive 2.67 kg bag. Josh, who is no stranger to the Onkaparinga River, explains how local knowledge and pre-fishing helped him dial in on the best spots. He shares how slow-rolling plastics along rock walls and deeper channels yielded the best results, with a standout 1.07 kg fish anchoring his win. Josh's persistence, detailed planning, and ability to adapt on the fly were key to his victory.

We also take a moment to discuss The Bream Fishing Project Collective, a growing community where anglers come together to improve their skills, share tips, and access exclusive content, including live streams and in-depth discussions on bream tactics.
