DeCicco & Sons, which operates 11 high-end supermarkets in Westchester and Putnam counties, New York (north of New York City), is opening in May its first Connecticut store in Greenwich, its seventh new store to be equipped with transcritical CO2 (R744) refrigeration in the past decade, along with two converted stores.

U.S. compressor manufacturer Copeland has made ThermBooster, a high-temperature heat pump (HTHP) by Sustainable Process Heat (SPH), available in North America. The unit delivers steam at up to 180°C (356°F) using hydrocarbons or other low-GWP refrigerants.

A test at the Waco, Texas, plant of food-processing giant Cargill showed that airflow diffusers directing the flow of air in a deli-meat cooling room toward turkey rolls were able to reduce the time it takes for the product temperature to reach 4°C (39°F) by two to three hours.

CO2 (R744) components make up “well over” 50% of the Henry Group’s business at its factory in Chatham, Illinois, according to Aaron Arnold, a Sales Manager at the company.
