Dune is a 1984 American epic space opera film written and directed by David Lynch and based on the 1965 Frank Herbert novel Dune. It was filmed at the Churubusco Studios in Mexico City. The soundtrack was composed by the rock band Toto, with a contribution from Brian Eno. Its large ensemble cast includes Kyle MacLachlan's film debut as young nobleman Paul Atreides, Patrick Stewart, Brad Dourif, Dean Stockwell, Virginia Madsen, Josรฉ Ferrer, Sean Young, Sting, Linda Hunt, and Max von Sydow.

The setting is the distant future, chronicling the conflict between rival noble families as they battle for control of the extremely harsh desert planet Arrakis, also known as Dune. The planet is the only source of the drug melange (spice), which allows prescience and is vital to space travel, making it the most essential and valuable commodity in the universe. Paul Atreides is the scion and heir of a powerful noble family, whose inheritance of control over Arrakis brings them into conflict with its former overlords, House Harkonnen. Paul is also possibly the Kwisatz Haderach, a messianic figure expected by the Bene Gesserit sisterhood.

After the novel's initial success, attempts to adapt Dune as a film began in 1971. A lengthy process of development followed throughout the 1970s, during which Arthur P. Jacobs, Alejandro Jodorowsky, and Ridley Scott unsuccessfully tried to bring their visions to the screen. In 1981, executive producer Dino De Laurentiis hired Lynch as director.

The film underperformed at the box office, grossing $30.9 million from a $40โ€“42 million budget. At least four versions have been released worldwide. Lynch largely disowned the finished film and had his name removed or changed to pseudonyms. The film has developed a cult following,[4][5] but opinion varies between fans of the novel and fans of Lynch's films.[6]

Get ready for a wild ride through the mystical underbelly of San Francisco's Chinatown as we unpack the cult classic "Big Trouble in Little China" on this thrilling episode of Sounds Awesome Patreon. ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿฎ Join Desmond McNeese and the crew as they reminisce about the good ol' days of VHS tapes and family movie nights with this 1986 John Carpenter gem. Starring Kurt Russell as the swaggering, wise-cracking Jack Burton, we explore the movie's chaotic blend of action, fantasy, and a truckload of 80s cheese. ๐Ÿšš๐Ÿง€

From underground mazes to questionable potions, we dissect the bizarre world where ancient Chinese sorcery meets modern-day machismo. With each plot twist and karate kick, we're transported to a realm where nothing is quite what it seems, and where the real hero might just be the sidekick. ๐Ÿฅ‹โœจ Dive into the debate over whether Jack Burton is the true white savior or just a lovable buffoon in the right place at the wrong time. And let's not forget the unforgettable showdowns, complete with lightning bolts, floating eyeballs, and a monster that gives new meaning to "hairy situation." ๐ŸŒฉ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘€

As we unravel the layers of this awesomely terrible flick, we also share personal tales that rival the escapades of the film's characters, with a chilling real-life connection to a notorious serial killer that hits too close to home. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ Unearth the original script's western roots and join us for a hearty laugh as we recall the film's most cringeworthy one-liners and scenes that defy explanation. ๐Ÿค ๐ŸŽฌ

Prepare to have your mind bent and your perception of time challenged in this latest episode of Sounds Awesome Patreon! As we dive deep into the enigma of time travel, we're left questioning: Is time travel a matter of fact or a matter of experience? Join us as we explore the concept of time as a construct and how movies like "Interstellar" play with our understanding of temporal mechanics.

Is it time dilation or time travel when gravity warps the flow of time, making minutes stretch into years? We grapple with the idea that time, influenced by gravity, can vary from one planet to another, and even within the realms of our dreams. Does this mean we're all time travelers each night as we slumber?

We also ponder over the practicalities of space travel โ€“ if a trip to Mars can make you younger by the standards of Earth time, what does that mean for our future as interplanetary travelers? And when characters in films like "Inception" live out decades in the span of a dream, are they truly journeying through time?

This episode isn't just a discussion; it's a philosophical journey that will leave you contemplating the very fabric of reality. So strap in, as we attempt to unravel the mysteries of the universe and our place within it, one second at a time.

Mat feels his luck increase but fears that the rich noblemen will leave due to the conversation turning uncomfortable. At the beginning of this book, all major protagonists are together at the Stone of Tear, where Rand al'Thor had recently, at the end of The Dragon Reborn, shown to the world that he was the Dragon Reborn by wielding Callandor.

"I think I am part of Rand's destiny, somehow. Mat, too. I think he can't do what he as to unless we do our part, as well. That is the duty. How can I walk away if it might mean Rand will fail."
    โ€” Perrin Aybara to Faile

Two weeks have gone by since the Stone of Tear fell to Rand and the Aiel. Perrin and Faile Bashere are in their quarters in the Stone of Tear. Faile comments on Perrin's lackluster quarters and is sure Mat has better, but Perrin is more than satisfied and wants nothing fancy. Faile tries to talk Perrin into leaving Tear with her, but Perrin insists that he cannot leave because he is ta'veren and too closely tied to Rand. Perrin takes his hammer off the wall and holds it, which makes him feel better.

  • Itโ€™s time for our annual talk about whatever the hell we want to talk about, so here we are chatting about Role Modelsโ€ฆ Enjoy!

Role Models is a 2008 American comedy film directed by David Wain, who co-wrote it with Timothy Dowling, Paul Rudd and Ken Marino. The film follows two energy drink salesmen who are ordered to perform 150 hours of community service as punishment for various offenses. For their service, the two men work at a program designed to pair children with adult role models. The film stars Seann William Scott, Paul Rudd, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bobb'e J. Thompson, Jane Lynch, and Elizabeth Banks.
    -Wikipedia

This is a seriously horrible movie. Most redeeming factor, it's short. I'm so embarrassed that I fell for the trailer.
    -Rotten Tomatoes

The clean parts of ROLE MODELS are extremely funny, but the rest of the movie contains abundant foul language, crude sexual content, brief nudity, and some drug references. What makes the movie completely unacceptable, however, is its mixture of crude sexual references with the character of the fifth grader, whoโ€™s obsessed with womenโ€™s breasts as well as sometimes spouting obscenities. This content really crosses a line.

Fate leads Rand and the others to an inevitable showdown with their most formidable enemies yet.

Moghedien joined Lews Therin Telamon as an employee of his staff early into the War of Power, and from her position directed several of the major setbacks for the Light in the early War. Although not a general like the others who aided the Shadow in the War, Moghedien was responsible for scores of civilian deaths simply by her manipulations alone.

  • Daes Dae'mar is a phrase in the Old Tongue which translates to The Great Game, but is more commonly known as The Game Of Houses.
It refers to the political and social maneuvering employed by the nobility of various nations to gain status or wealth, or to cause the downfall of others they dislike.
The Great Game is played the most heavily in Cairhien, where the most seemingly irrelevant act can cause lords and ladies to speculate endlessly about one's motives; even servants of the Cairhienin nobility play their own version of Daes Dae'mar. Conversely, it is rarely seen in the Borderlands, as Borderlanders are more concerned with Shadowspawn and the Blight than individual power, status or wealth.

Mat is abducted from Cairhien by Lanfear and brought to Ishamael in Falme, who gives him a tea that shows him visions of himself as a murderer. Nynaeve and Elayne manages to use the a'dam to take a sul'dam captive after learning from Loial that only sul'dams can approach the kennels where Egwene is held. Perrin and Aviendha meet up with two other Aiel warriors, Bain and Chiad, who join them in their journey to Falme. In Cairhien, Rand is brought to Siuan Sanche, who takes him captive, intending to use him as a weapon against the Dark One. Barthanes is revealed to be a Darkfriend, and tasked by Liandrin with killing Moiraine, but Anvaere uncovers the plot and locks him in a cell. Lan learns from Logain that Ishamael didn't still Moiraine, but shielded her. Rand persuades Lanfear to help him get to Falme, and she assaults the Foregate to distract Siuan, allowing Moiraine and Lan to escape with Rand, who uses the One Power to cut the shield around Moiraine, allowing her to channel again. Siuan finds them as they are about to leave Cairhien through a Waygate, but she is ambushed by Lanfear, who easily defeats her and opens the gate, allowing Rand, Moiraine and Lan to leave for Falme.
