In Episode 193 of the Bru Time podcast, Bruce sits down with former European Tour professional golfer Warren "Trev" Bennett for an exceptionally grounded look at the brutal highs and lows of elite sports and life after the spotlight fades.

Trev openly shares his memories of playing against and beating an amateur Tiger Woods, the intense financial strain of chasing success on the tour circuit, and the profound mental health impact of an anxiety-induced nervous breakdown at the 2004 Open Championship. He discusses the reality of going from international success to having zero pounds in his bank account, his ten-year technical obsession to repair his swing, and the liberating perspective of choosing a simpler, more meaningful life.

The lads also dig into their shared love of motorcycling - discussing the current state of the global bike market, Trev’s history with the BMW R18, and Bruce's recent grueling 66-hour UK tour on a 125cc scooter. Finally, Trev highlights the lifesaving Type 1 diabetes awareness work being done by the Adam Bell Foundation.

This week on the Bru Time Podcast, I sit down with Dave Ashpole (@d_ash999), an operational UK Fire & Rescue worker, lifelong motocross enthusiast, and former British Army sniper.

Dave shares his journey from leaving school with no qualifications to joining the infantry, serving on tense combat tours in Northern Ireland, and training the Afghan National Army in 2003. He opens up about the perverse sense of pride that comes with delivering tough news in uniform, the modern "corporate" shift within the emergency services, and why he chooses to view psychological resilience as "mental fitness" rather than mental health.

We also get heavily into the bike talk - discussing the best forgiving off-road bikes for beginners, his ongoing battle with a severe ACL injury at 45, and plenty of lighthearted banter comparing the complete package of the BMW GS to the raw adrenaline of a KTM.

    In this episode we cover:

    • Dave's background and the childhood spark that started a 2-wheel obsession.
    • The realities of transition: Going from the "Mob" to driving lorries to entering the Fire Service.
    • Inside the modern Fire Service: Why modern recruitment is struggling and why veterans miss the old watch culture.
    • Listener Q&A: Beginner green laning tips, favorite UK tarmac routes (Scotland vs. Wales), and the absolute best/worst bikes currently sitting in his garage.
    • Mental Fitness: How first responders pack away trauma and the warning signs of hitting a wall.

In this episode of Bru Time, I sit down with the truly inspirational Nigel Limb, better known as "Blind Bloke Racing."

Nigel’s life changed forever on December 27th, during a speedway race on Mablethorpe Beach. What should have been a standard post-Christmas race ended in a horrific high-speed crash that left Nigel in a coma with a Diffuse Axonal Injury (DAI)—a brain injury so severe that doctors told his wife, Julie, he would likely not survive, or would remain in a persistent vegetative state.

    In this episode, we discuss:

The Crash: The moment Nigel’s speedway bike went straight into a concrete wall at full throttle. The "Room of Doom": The devastating prognosis Nigel’s family faced and the decision to keep him on life support.A True Miracle: Nigel’s journey from a 0% chance of recovery to sitting up in a hospital bed just 11 days later. The Aftermath: The immense mental toll the accident took on his wife, Julie, and how their lives were turned upside down in a matter of days.

Nigel is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the "never give up" attitude of the racing community. Grab a brew and join us for one of the most raw and powerful stories we’ve ever had on the show.

Damian “Demon Rides” Rowley joins me on Bru Time from South America, mid-journey on his ride around the world.

A former London dispatch rider, Virgin LimoBike chauffeur, racer from club level to World Endurance, and instructor at the Ron Haslam Race School, Damian’s life has been shaped by motorcycles — but this episode goes far deeper than bikes.

We talk honestly about chronic pain, burnout, mid-life realisation, resilience, and what finally pushed Damian to walk away from comfort and choose life over survival. From fixing a bike at 15,700 feet in Peru to confronting mental and physical limits, this is a raw, grounded conversation about responsibility, freedom, and living on your own terms.

No hype. No hero worship. Just real talk about what it actually takes to live your life.

In this episode of Bru Time, I sit down with Chris Eades, better known as Baron Von Grumble, for one of our most open and important conversations yet.

Alongside motorcycles and YouTube, Chris speaks candidly about mental health, burnout, and his recent experience with psilocybin therapy, discussing why he chose it, what the process involved, and how it’s impacted his outlook on life.

This is a thoughtful, honest conversation about vulnerability, self-reflection, and finding healthier ways to move forward.

No scripts. No bravado. Just real talk.
