Hayleigh's main research areas include copyright enforcement and infringement in the entertainment industries, particularly in music, social media, online and more recently in artificial intelligence. Hayleigh’s research always involves public and policy engagement, as such she is widely published in academic peer-reviewed journals, in the press, and has responded to a number of policy inquiries at International, European and UK level. Her most recent book; Copyright in the Music Industry, is accompanied with a playlist and podcast. Hayleigh is a core member of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and a member of the Research Centre for Law, Economics and Finance at Brunel. Hayleigh joined Brunel in 2018, having previously held positions at Coventry University, The University of the Arts London and the Academy of Digital Entertainment, Breda University (Netherlands).

Guest Profile: Ryan Abbott, MD, JD, MTOM, PhD is Professor of Law and Health Sciences at the University of Surrey School of Law and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He has published widely on issues associated with law and technology, health law, and intellectual property in leading legal, medical, and scientific books and journals. He is the author of “The Reasonable Robot: Artificial Intelligence and the Law” published in 2020 by Cambridge University Press. Professor Abbott’s research has been featured prominently in the media, including in the New York Times, Financial Times, Forbes, and VICE. He routinely gives keynote lectures and presents internationally in academic (e.g., MIT, Stanford, Oxford, Cambridge), government (e.g., World Intellectual Property Organization, World Trade Organization, UK Intellectual Property Office), and industry (e.g., AIPPI, American Chemical Society, INTERPAT) settings. Managing Intellectual Property magazine named him as one of the fifty most influential people in intellectual property in 2019. Professor Abbott is a licensed physician, patent attorney, and acupuncturist in the United States, and a solicitor advocate in England and Wales.

Guest Profile: Sébastien Lafrance is a Crown Counsel (Prosecutor) for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada. He was a part-time Professor of Law at the University of Ottawa. He clerked for the Honourable Marie Deschamps of the Supreme Court of Canada and for the Honourable Michel Robert, Chief Judge of the Quebec Court of Appeal. Sébastien also worked as counsel for the Law Branch of the Supreme Court of Canada. He has published book chapters and articles (in Canada, France, India, Indonesia, the United Kingdom and Vietnam; in English, French and Vietnamese) on criminal, constitutional, international and also labour law, one of which was awarded a national first prize. He won the Charles-Rousseau Public International Law Moot Court competition with his teammates and has lectured on various legal topics around the world. Sébastien completed the courses for a Master in Law, Laval University, and studied international law at the Hague Academy of International Law, Netherlands. He holds a degree in law (LLB) from the University of Quebec at Montreal, a degree in political science (BSc) from the University of Montreal and he also studied Russian and Slavic Studies at McGill University. He is a polyglot, recently learning Indonesian and Mandarin Chinese intensively. Sébastien is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and of the Law Society of Quebec.
