After yesterday's big bonus pod with Golf Australia CEO James Sutherland, today is the normal pod - 24 hours later than usual, but hopefully you enjoyed the chat with James. If you haven't heard it, have a listen.
Plenty on today's show. Nick has just come back from playing Long Island in zero degree temperatures, thankfully he has a shiny new clothing sponsor to keep him warm. Cutter and Buck if you must know. Mark raises golf course renovations, specifically why they do them so slowly (ie: 9 holes at a time). We've got a poll up on twitter here, love your thoughts.
Mark also names the worst golf coach he ever had. And then, without any sense of irony, goes on to outline a fantastic tip that this coach gave him. And Nick admits to something that he did on a golf course that he has never told anyone.
Nick and Mark discuss yesterday's bonus pod with James Sutherland and how much they enjoyed it, they are particularly pleased that James seems to be aiming high and thinking big.....two words resonated with them: 'Rolex Series'. We can dream.
Marks turn for the Top 5 this week and what initially felt like a filler Top 5 that he'd given zero thought to actually turned out to be pretty good.
Nick has a great fun fact on the legendary Bernhard Langer, and runs through some great results in the PING global results - not the least of which was a fantastic #2 finish from David Micheluzzi on the DP World Tour.
Some fantastic feedback including more comments on our bonus pod a couple of weeks ago with Jonathan Yarwood - and a mate of Nicks took up the invite to get some advice from Jonathan via Skillest with brilliant results.
And a great masterclass from Nick, requested by Talk Birdie listener Peter Riley on hitting out of the long rough.
And finally an apology. Into the turn today Mark, for reasons best known to himself, decided to tell a joke. It was awful. We're embarrassed. We considered not airing it, but he insisted. And that means you need to hear it, for which we cannot apologise enough. The only thing that will prevent a reoccurrence is a reality check via feedback, so let us know on socials, leave a voicemail, whatever you prefer.....but our heartfelt apologies for this misstep.
A big thanks to our Talk Birdie partners, who we hope will forgive Marks joke:

A massive bonus pod today, Nick O'Hern & Mark Allen chat one on one, okay two on one, with Golf Australia CEO James Sutherland.
In a wide-ranging conversation we cover the key issues:
Why it has taken so long to announce the venue, format and dates of the 2024 Australian Open. The rationale behind Kingston Heath and Victoria Golf Club as the venues. Is the mixed format - mens, women's and all abilities - the way forward, and are the imperfections of it acceptable given the benefits. Is he open to separating the events in the right circumstances. Why the Victoria government has invested in golf, and hosting this tournament in Melbourne. If November is the best date for the Open, or if it is the only date that works.IF LIV Adelaide been good for golf in Australia. Will Golf Australia be offering appearance fees to players like Rory to get them here for the Open.Elevation of the Australian events. Will the Open be in Melbourne ongoing, or will he consider other states. His view on whether the PIF, PGA, DPWT welcome together and how that might look. It's a ripping bonus podcast from the guy at the top of the tree in Australian golf. Tickets for the Australian Open 2024 are available from Ticketek or AusOpenGolf.com.au.

We kick off today's podcast by listening to some audio that was not on our bingo card this week. We would not have expected what happened to happen.
Once we get through that, we chat Cam Davis. Wow. A wonderful performance in Detroit, Nick and Mark discuss how well he played. We nearly had an all Aussie finish with Min Woo in the hunt for a while. Nick felt sorry for Akshay Bhatia who was very unlucky. Nick tells Mark about how Cameron Young broke his driver on the back nine. Funny.
Mark brings up Andrew Tschudin, who is Cam Davis' caddie, and Mark says that he was an exceptional player himself, and he compares one aspect of his game to Stuart Appleby. We have a suggestion from a listener Pete who wants to see Cam Davis vs Nick O'Hern in matchplay, but with a twist.
Nick and Mark discuss Frank Bensel Jr making back to back Aces at the weekend, leading to a fun chat about Hole in Ones, and a particularly funny story from Mark about one of his. Nick tells a story about one of his hole in one's in Singapore.
We discuss Rory's caddie, Harry Diamond, and a video that Mark has seen highlighting the moments where Harry may have given Rory the wrong club and cost him. Nick and Mark discuss who they'd love to see on the bag for Rory.
Australian Open update. It's a bit 'boy who cried wolf' but Mark is convinced an announcement will come this week about the venue, and the structure. He also says that a coming together of the PIF, PGA, the DPWT, and Strategic Sports Group is well underway and will be done by the end of 2024.
Nick counts down his Top 5 best conditioned golf courses in the world, of those that he has seen.
As usual lots of feedback, plenty of comments - including one from Talk Birdie listener Jim that gets Nick quite riled up.
Lots of great results for the Aussies this week in the PING global results, obviously Cam Davis leading the way with a fantastic performance. Then we get a voicemail with a ripping question for Nick and Mark.
And we wrap the show with a Mark Allen masterclass on hip turns.

This is a cracking bonus podcast, Nick O'Hern and Mark Allen chat with one of the worlds leading golf coaches, Jonathan Yarwood from New York. And the pod gets off to an unexpected start when Jonathan reveals that when he was younger he wanted to be Mark Allen, he explains why. We originally thought he was ripping the piss, but no it turns out to be true!
Jonathan has coached some of the worlds great players - Michael Campbell, Nelly Korda, Jessie Korda - to name a few, and he tells us about working with each of those and some of the areas of their respective games that he was tasked with helping address.
He also talks about how the internet has both assisted in developing golfers, but at the same time causes problems as it can validate almost anything you want to believe. Jonathan talks about the role technology plays in his coaching and says that, ironically, he uses technology to get less technical.
Jonathan explains his theory of 'Search / Improve' and why it can be dangerous for golf pros.
He also talks about some of the work he does with Paige Spiranac, commenting that she is an excellent golfer, Nick agrees.
And in great news, if you'd like Jonathan to have a look at your swing, he's happy to do so (a cost involved, but a very reasonable one), you can find him on Skillest here, or visit Jonathan's website here. He comes highly recommended by both Nick and Mark.

A bonus pod this week, we've been getting so many questions from you that we can't fit them all in the weekly podcast, so from time to time we'll do a bonus pod ripping through a few questions.
Some great questions on this bonus Q&A pod.
Steve asks about what are the essential aids for a practice session.Ry, Greg and Joe each have a comment, and in Joe's case a question regarding Tigers lifetime exemption. None of the three are fans.Voicemail from Fehan on Lexi Thompson and what comes next for her.Jake loved the US Open and has a 3-part question for Nick and Mark regarding Bryson and Rory.Alex played the Palmer Course at Coolum last week and saw Nick's name on the honour board at Coolum, he has a question about that tournament for Nick.Keep the feedback and questions and comments coming, we love it.

Another fun show today, we start with a chat about the LPGA tournament at Sahalee in Washington at the weekend, fantastic win for Amy Yang - she has waited a long time for this and it was wonderful to see. Tough final couple of holes, but she got there! And Nick O'Hern claims Amy as an honorary Aussie, find out why on the pod.
Mark loved the tournament, but hated one thing about it. And it had to with nature. Speaking of nature, we talk about the protestors at The Travellers event in Connecticut. Didn't slow Scheffler down though who went on to win in a playoff. He's on fire.
Nick and Mark discuss the rumours that there is an Australian Open announcement coming this week sometime. Might just be rumours, but there seems to be movement at Australian Golf Headquarters. Fingers crossed!
Mark gives us a fun Top 5 today, unless you're a player listed. It's the Top 5 'slumps' in professional golf. His number one is a current golfer on the pro tour.
Plenty of feedback this week, including a whack from a pod listener who says Nick and Mark are 'out of touch'. Ouch. Why? We discuss on the pod, and would your feedback on the specific reason why the boys have been whacked. And in fact we've got plenty of feedback we couldn't get to, so we'll do another bonus Q&A pod later in the week with a few more of your questions for the boys - keep them coming.
Fantastic PING global results this week from Nick, lots of action all over the world, and he runs through some of the key results. And then we have a voicemail question from Chris for Nick about one of the holes in Isleworth, Florida, where Nick lived for 13-years as a pro.
A great Masterclass from Nick thanks to the team at the watchMynumbers app - this week inspired by the winner of the LPGA tournament at the weekend, Amy Yang, about the rhythm in her swing, which Nick says is very impressive.
And we're working on a bonus pod this week with super coach Jonathon Yarwood from the US. Aiming for friday. He's a gun and we're looking forward to a good chat with him if the timing works.

What a US Open, absolutely riveting. There were celebrations, heartbreak, twists and turns, and Nick O'Hern and Mark Allen run the ruler across it all today on the Talk Birdie To Me podcast.
In fact the first half of the pod is pretty much all US Open. Nick and Mark start by discussing Rory's use of the 7 iron on the 15th hole, and that this was where it started going wrong. They make the comment, which they've said many times before, that Rory has the wrong caddie, and that there is no way that a competent and experienced caddie would have allowed a 7 iron in that situation, and that decision cost Rory the tournament. Both Nick and Mark felt 'sick' after Rory's final putt on 18.
Nick and Mark run through some moments in the tournament for Bryson and Rory. Mark says Brysons iron play was exceptional, and he runs through his stats from the tournament. Nick remains concerned about the number of looks that Rory is taking and says he must cut them down.
Mark watched the video of Johnson Wagner after the tournament, when Bryson came down whilst he was filming. Brilliant. He explains what happened as Nick hadn't seen it. If you haven't, you can see it here, it's a ripper.
Scottie Scheffler had a tough day at the office, we discuss and look at some of his key stats. Mark was impressed with what he saw of low amateur winner Neil Shipley, and reckons he is great fun to watch.
Back to Rory, can he win again? Can he come back? Mark has some interesting stats from US journo Rob Lusetich on the age that previous icons won their final major.
After the turn, inspired by the US Open, Nick counts down his Top 5 notable missed putts in majors, and we found out what Nick and Marks most notable missed putt in their careers were. And we have a voicemail from former tour pro Scotty Laycock adding some info to what happened at the infamous 2002 Australian Open.
Plenty of golf around the world that Nick covers off in the PING global results today, and then we hook into some feedback. No whacks this week! But we're sure more will come. And the hotline rings - it's Mark from Nudgee in Queensland who has a question for Nick and Mark about Rory's putting in the US Open.
Masterclass this week from Mark on 'pressure putting' with some excellent advice from both Nick and Mark. And we wrap with some whispers we're hearing about the Australian Open. Fingers crossed.

A bonus pod this week, we've been getting so many questions from you that we can't fit them all in the weekly podcast, so from time to time we'll do a bonus pod ripping through a few questions.
Seven questions on this bonus Q&A pod.
Peter asks for an update on the development of 7 Mile Beach Golf Club in Hobart.Paul wants to find out what reasonable green fees are on public courses, he reckons he's paying a bit much at the moment.Darren has a scenario that he puts to Nick and Mark involving Scottie Scheffler vs a 15 Handicapper.Matt from Barwon Heads has a whack for Nick, we read it out, and Nick responds.Scott asks the boys about how Brett Coletta and Daniel Gale would be preparing for the DP World TourSteve, our mate at Rich Rivers Golf Club, has a question on tight driving holes. And we wrap with a suggestion for a guest for the pod from KR. Marko likes this one.Keep the feedback and questions and comments coming, we love it.

Mens US Open week and Nick and Mark are excited. Plenty to discuss. We start by sharing some stories about the legendary, late Payne Stewart and some memories of him. Nick and Mark agree that the Payne Stewart statue has to be the best statue of all time.
Nick tells the story of when he decided to stop playing conservatively after two rounds at Pinehurst, and to play aggressively. Did it work? Nick says that was the day he learned not to 'take on' golf courses. Mark asks Nick to explain the difference between when he played conservatively and aggressively, what changed in his game.
We're interested to see how Pinehurst is set up this year, particularly if the rough will be more prominent. And Nick predicts what he believes the winning score will be.
The Washington Post has reported the story that Nick and Mark discussed a fortnight ago on the conditions around the investment from the Strategic Sports Group into the PGA. Mark is seeing some good news that could come out of this, and feels we might be in a reasonable spot at the moment.
Nick watched the Scheffler bodycam footage this week and found it hilarious, which leads to a chat about Scottie's wins this year. Guaranteed future Hall of Famer according to Mark.
We chat with Paul Gumbleton from Teven Valley Golf Club in NSW Northern Rivers region, who have just laid Zoysia grass from tee to green pretty much. He talks us through the process, why they've done it, and how it's going.
Top 5 this week from Mark, his Top 5 shots ever seen to win a Mens US Open. Has he missed any? Number One won't surprise you.
A ripping voicemail with an idea to put to the guys about the USPGA and how they might support Australia.
It's a massive PING global results today, tournaments and players everywhere in the last week, Nick runs us through them, and we have an interlude when we need input on a ruling on the LPGA tour from our rules guy Stu of the Golf Rules Questions podcast.
Lots of feedback, so much so that we'll do a bonus pod later in the week just focused on your feedback and questions. Look out for that.
It is bowel cancer awareness month, and Mark talks us through the signs to look for. Important for all of us.
A great masterclass from Nick inspired by Sebastian Söderberg on short putts. Plus Nick and Mark give their predictions on the US Open - winner and notable who can't win.

We love it when we can do the pod from a golf club, and today we're in Melbourne's sandbelt at the stunning Southern Golf Club to celebrate the unveiling of a statue of the legendary Bob Shearer. It looks incredible, we've put some pics on our socials.
Nick and Mark have a couple of cracking stories about Bob, including one where Victoria Golf Course was famously deemed 'unplayable' in Round 1 of the 2002 Australian Open with Bob, Mark and Richard Ball. Mark explains what happens to them all on the tee to cause the days play to be cancelled, leading to that famous picture of Peter Thomson dropping the ball to check the green. It was quite a dark day for Australian golf.
After the turn we chat with the head honch at Southern, Brad Robb, and find out the backstory and hear some more stories about Bob.
Onto some golf news from the past week. Minjee Lee. We love her so it was disappointing to see her fall away in the US Open at the weekend. She was doing so well, but then a rough few holes knocked her out of contention. However credit to Yuka Saso who played beautifully to win the tournament.
What kind of Chair will Ian Baker-Finch make? Nick and Mark discuss what the PGA of Australia need, and what his style might be.
Nick loved the story of Robert MacIntyre winning the Canadian Open at the weekend, with his Dad Dougie as his caddie. Great scenes, plenty of emotion. Fantastic stuff.
We call pod listener Pete from Western Australia, who has a comment of some recent advice that Mark Allen gave here. Pete tells us the impact that it has had on his game. It's a ripping story.
After the turn we have a chat with Brad Robb, the General Manager at Southern Golf Club. He talks us through how the statue of Bob Shearer came about, who they commissioned to design it and why, and some of the work they've been doing on the course to make it even better. Southern have been working with our mate Mike Cocking at OCM which means you know the outcome will be stunning.
Nick counts down his Top 5 divorces in golf. One may surprise you.
Plenty of feedback, lots on young Eden from Coffs Harbour, far too much to read out, but we touch on a couple. And a couple of great questions for Nick and Mark.
Nick takes us around the world with the PING global results, and for our mates at the new watchMynumbers app, Mark has a masterclass inspired by Minjee Lee and something he saw her doing in the US Open.

We always love getting voicemails, some we play on the show, some we pop in the feed here.
Lots of comments on the Coffs Harbour Golf Club decision regarding young Eden and the rules around her playing. Ed from Adelaide, who is a member at The Grange had an opinion he wanted to share.

A fun bonus pod today with Aussie tennis superstar Todd Woodbridge, who is also a veeeery handy golfer.
Nick O'Hern & Mark Allen speak Todd about his commentary and how he navigates the personalities of guys like John McEnroe and Jim Courier. He tells us why he loved doubles so much.
How did Todd go from tennis commentator to game show host? And why does he feel that commentating has helped him prepare for hosting a game show. Todd talks through the audition process when he got the gig on Tipping Point.
Todd spent a lot of time with the late Payne Stewart and we hear some of those stories, and how that friendship came about, and what Payne taught him.
Todd tells us the one thing that is different about golf than any other sport and why he loves this aspect of it.
We hear how Todd and Nicks friendship came about and find out if Todd could have made it as a golfer....and we find out the superstar US golfer that Todd beat and how it happened.
And finally, in the wake of Scottie Scheffler being arrested, and Nick and Mark sharing their stories of being arrested, or close to it in Nicks case, Todd tells us about the time he was arrested in Atlanta, spent time in a jail cell, and went out the next day and played tennis in the Olympics, ultimately winning gold!

Another big episode of Talk Birdie To Me today, and we start by discussing the awful news from the weekend at Colonial with the passing of Grayson Murray. Our thoughts are with his family and friends, and we hope they navigate through this terrible period with all the support they'll need. If you're struggling or need someone to talk to, you don't have to go it alone. Lifeline provide 24-hour crisis counselling on 13 11 14, and Beyond Blue can help if you or a loved one need help on 1300 22 46 36. Vale Grayson.
Onto the rest of the show. Nick and Mark have come in worked up over the situation in Coffs Harbour where an 11-year old girl has been refused entry into a competition by the club. On the surface it seems ridiculous, and after a chat with Golf Australia it seems even more ridiculous. Mark says that he has 'never seen anything so stupid in all my life', and that the board at Coffs Harbour Golf Club need to 'pull their head out of their arse'. Hard to argue. It's a dreadful position to take and against the spirit of what the game is trying to do.
We discuss Colonial from the weekend, Nick and Mark were impressed with the tees and greens given they ripped up the course only a year ago. We discuss the grass they've used, it's not Pure Distinction, it's not Zoysia, but it is 007 Bentgrass. Mark is keen to see if Australian courses are considering Zoysia given it is drought-resistant and holds its colour, and Nick thinks that Mount Lawley might have put 007 in. Mark is annoyed with Richard Bland in the seniors, who knocked out a couple of Aussies - Richard Green and Greg Chalmers. We discuss how Nick and Mark use their left and right arms when putting or driving.
Fun voicemail from Chris with a comment about Cape Wickham vs Royal Melbourne. After the turn we get back to the lefty conversation with Mark counting down the best Aussie lefties.
Plenty of results from around the world, Nick runs through the PING global results.
Lots of feedback, some great questions for Nick and Mark. Keep them coming at our website here. A fantastic bonus episode today with one of the world's best golf coaches, who just happens to be an Aussie. Steve Bann has coached a number of superstars in world golf: Ian Baker-Finch, Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, K. J. Choi among others and has an enviable record of success. And he's a pretty handy player as well!
Nick and Mark chat with Steve about how he got into golf, despite his desire to be a rock star. He tells us about Peter Thomson and changing Ian Baker-Finch's swing, and what it was like having a front row seat to Robert Allenby's career. He also talks about why Ian Baker-Finch lost his way on the golf course and what caused it.

It's a huge episode this week, so much to unpack from Valhalla. And we kick it off with 'jail confessions'. Have Nick or Mark been to prison? One has, and one nearly did. We hear the stories of what happened at the start of the pod. But then onto Scottie Scheffler. Not often you see a golf pro in prison midway through a tournament - in fact it is probably the first time ever! Nick and Mark discuss what happened and how it impacted his tournament.
But of course, whilst the Scheffler sideshow was fascinating, Xander Schauffele is the star of the week, after a huge win following a very tight finish at Valhalla. Nick and Mark discuss how he played, a few of the notable holes and shots he played. His swing changes appear to have made a difference. Tiger's performance was disappointing and both Nick and Mark found him difficult to watch, and explain why. Mark was impressed with Sam Torrance's commentating and gave him a 10/10 for his performance.
Nick found the battle between Bryson and Hovland fascinating, and Mark was impressed with Bryson's performance saying whilst he got lucky on 16, he 'cashed in' on that luck which only champions can do. Nick says whilst he's not been a huge Bryson fan, he is warming to him. Speaking of champions, Nelly Korda. Unbelievable. Nudging our own Hannah Green. Nick and Mark discuss.
Mark gets a bit Kardashian and raises a rumour he's been reading about regarding Rory McIlroy and his recently filed for divorce. Just rumours, and our lawyer Dennis Denuto has advised us to say 'allegedly' which we are definitely going with.
A great Top 5 from Nick today, he lists his Top 5 pros who have won one major, and are still looking for their 2nd. Confusion over whether it's a Top 5 or a Top 7 in classic Nick style.
Mark has an insider at LIV who has tipped him off that the Strategic Sports Group's investment in the PGA has some conditions around the 1.5billion and that the SSG have had some words to certain high profile PGA players to 'stop talking' about that money.
Lots to unpack in the PING global results this week, and Nick runs us through it all. Feedback aplenty with comments still coming in on the Top 100 list, some agreeing with Nick and Mark, and some with an alternate view. And we have a question from a listener on The Australian Open which opens a can of worms.
And thanks to the team at the new watchMynumbers app we wrap with a masterclass from Mark, inspired by Xander, on putting - specifically tapping prior to your putt, and why it works.
